Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

I get why @George Owen thought it's funny. The season so bad it's sending people into rehab. I doubt he read the full article. Cut the guy some slack.
Yeah, I agree. Initially, I chuckled a little, but when the underlying reasons were mentioned in the subsequent posts, I immediately realized the severity of it. It happens, nobody is a saint.

I'd imagine the show ending in itself has probably been a really weird experience for him that's been hard to deal with, essentially a decade of his life into something massive that's turned him into a global celebrity. And also one which resulted in him meeting his future wife etc.

Best of luck to him either way, not something to be sneered at.

Yeah, it's been an enormous part of his life. I imagine there's that empty feeling, where something that has clearly defined him over the last decade has come to an abrupt end, and he's left asking himself: where do I go from here?

Even I had that empty feeling after the final episode and I've only watched the series once. Can only imagine what it must feel like for someone who has invested the best part of a decade living and breathing the show. All the best to him.

His character though is the most overhyped and probably the worst good guy I've ever seen. "I don't want it", "you are my queen", all those focused slow motions with him looking clueless and miserable etc. Basically just a sulky borefest. The only time he was sort of half-witty was when Sansa told him winter is here and he acknowledged the longest callback in history by saying "father always promised didn't he".

During season 8, yeah. But even though he's a dour fecker, for the other 7 seasons he played the reluctant hero very well.

It felt like the writers suddenly realised how popular he was becoming and started giving him all the "cool" shots in battles and making him be super humble. It stopped feeling organic and started to feel forced.

Cam imagine Kit has probably been inundated with negative comments, threats etc. Don't underestimate how cult like some of the Dany lovers are/were (I know some who hate Jon as if he s an actual person, even responsible for the shit writing etc etc) Can imagine that aside from what was already said that knowing some fans of the show absolutely loathe you now, can't feel good if you re already feeling down.

Bran reckons Martin told D&D that he'd end up on the throne

https://screenrant.com/game-thrones-bran-king-george-rr-martin/

"I had to physically get up and walk around my flat. I said, “What?! You’re joking.” It was the very last thing I expected to happen. I was convinced they had sent a script to everyone in which they become king or queen, so I still didn’t believe it until the read-through.

But I think he is a great character to take on that role. You never thought of him in that way, but what more could you ask for in a king than to have no personal attachments, no agenda, but have a calm understanding of the entire universe? He’s the ideal person to be in charge.

[Creators] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] told me there were two things [author] George R.R. Martin had planned for Bran, and that was the Hodor revelation, and that he would be king. So that’s pretty special to be directly involved in something that is part of George’s vision. It was a really nice way to wrap it up."

He told them how it was all going to end. G R Martin and D n D have stated it many times.
Aye but an argument I've heard/read is that they could have been told how it ends and done it differently on the show, in the same way certain plotlines took a different course. At least this shuts that shit down.

Some people are just arseholes and dig deeper when they are clearly wrong.

Mental health is incredibly overlooked in general, not nearly enough is done about it.
This.

I've known people at work who were made fun of for suffering from depression. Things being said like they can't hack the pressure or they need to man up. I feel sorry for people who say things like that. Having that little compassion or empathy for others even those you know is very sad.

Laughing at someone for suffering mental health problems... way cool man.
As someone with severe mental health issues, I think it was a somewhat badly phrased joke, but not really problematic. I get what he was trying to say, he didn't mean to make fun of Harrington himself or the issues he has. He wanted to make fun of the writers, it backfired a little and that's it. No need to make this bigger than it was.

Agreed. It was a joke which was in slightly poor taste but nothing major, there was clearly no harm intended. People are far too quick to jump on somebody's back.

Agreed, basically he was a decent character until he fell for Dany. He became more of a standard leading man after that.

I'm half tempted to rewatch the short night on my nifty new oled... but nah, not really.

Watched the inside show. You realise how much work is put into it, even moreso than you realise.

Makes me sadder that they didn't just put an extra season to flesh things out

There are a few things I absolutely hated from the series :
+Dorne and how the characters were basically everything that went against oberyn and what he meant
+Sons of Harpy's
+The plan to take on a wight, them going north of wall really should have made more sense
+The second dragon being taken out. I have tried to rationalize it but when the whole 'dany kinda forgot' was said I can see why everybody called them dumb and dumber

The second to last and last could have been one long episode
Also do agree with most who said ep1 and 2 could have been merged

I really didn't have much issues with ep3. But 4 should have happened over 4 and 5
And then 6 could have been what was in 5 and 6.

Or as said make an extra season or two and d&d could have delegated and still done star wars and had their name to this

Season 8 was the equivalent of DMX in the rap world.

I'm disappointed given how the last two seasons of Game of Thrones played out, as many have stated it really did feel rushed and almost as if the writers had forgotten the method of writing a great story and telling it on screen. I thought the main story-beats could of worked but the writing that lead up to them was poor to say the least. Everything in the writing started to loose logic and the story they were trying to tell could of easily been stretched out for further episodes or even seasons for that matter. It's still a fantastic TV Series but it could of been so much more if it had managed to continue the quality in consistency that the other seasons had all the way through.

I think the simple reason D&D decided not to stretch it out was because they simply do not have the creativity or understanding of the characters that is needed to flesh out the characters. It was pretty clear that GRRM told them the end and it was mostly upto their creative elements to realize that end. Knowing fully well, just how much insight that would need, probably threw them off. They are going to work on the new Star Wars project I am told (Not a SW fan myself), so it should be interesting to see how my theory (Although not 100% Original) will pan out.

Tbf their work on adapting what was there and adding elements was great

I think the part of Ramsay fighting without a shirt when Yara came to rescue theon was just silly nonsense but not sure if that was from the books. One of the first silliest things however was Arya surviving multiple stabs, falling into water and then getting patched up and still out running the terminator.

I reckon d&d will be great for star wars. I still don't understand why they don't just keep their name on GoT and let it play out for a few more seasons and let others do the work whilst they still do star wars

Apparently the actor who played Bran literally thought it was a joke script in the ending where he becomes king.

Had never watched this last week but spent the week watching all the episodes and I thought it was great. So many emotional moments. Have heard the ending got bad press, however I had no problem with it (other than it being unsatisfying). If only Daenerys had showed mercy when they surrender, but that was never going to happen in GoT. I actually thought all the seasons were great with the exception of Season 5 which I felt was just good.
