You have absolutely no basis for your claim that I am overrating Bale because I'm Welsh other than the fact that I'm Welsh and I am - in your opinion - rating him too highly. You're not really giving me much choice!
And if I remember rightly, I claimed that Rooney was overrated because he was British, not English. Which I believe to be true. The British media are famous for hyping up British players.
Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing. It's also exactly what you were doing. That's kind of what I was aiming for.
Your entire argument for Rooney being overrated just because he was English was that whoever you were arguing with was British, and they thought he was better than you did. Shows how ridiculous it is when the argument's turned round the other way, no?
Hey, Bale might be great. Just like Rooney might be great. Just, you know, maybe have a bit of consistency in your arguments or appreciate people can have other perfectly valid arguments without bringing in bias to make your argument seem stronger? Like now, anyone who thinks Bale isn't better than Nani is just biased because they're United fans...maybe they appreciate different qualities in footballers to you? That's perfectly valid, right, because we don't know what qualities actually
matter? We just know what qualities we like to see, and we look for qualities in previous great players to compare to. Arsene Wenger thinks Nani's "technically a virtuoso", and we know how much he values technique over physique...so maybe he prefers Nani to Bale? On the other side Mourinho loves a great mix of technique and physique, and he loves direct players in attack as well as players who can put in a defensive shift, so maybe he prefers Bale to Nani?
We all see and value different qualities in football. Bias doesn't need to come into it. I think Nani's better than Bale and and Messi's better than Ronaldo and I would say that regardless of who I support. I value the ability to combine effective football with beautiful football, the ability to create from pure skill over pure athleticism, technique over physique. Doesn't mean I think anyone who disagrees with me is biased. Do I even believe that I'm right? In some ways no, what Bale did tonight was an outstanding show of athleticism that could destroy any defence on its day, and if all he needs to do is push the ball on the outside of the defender, power past another and fire it in bottom corner then the easier the better in many ways. I don't find it as impressive as Nani driving through the middle, beating two men and then firing one into the top corner, though, even if it is just as difficult and has the same outcome.
Objective judgement in football doesn't happen, so why not just put across your opinion without rubbishing others'?
