Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Yeah, its been a bit weird that he got so much attention last season and so little this. There's a lot of misconceptions about him though, first and foremost that his only two good games last season were against Inter. Utter bull, for the whole of that calender year, he was excellent. Voted our best player the season we finished 4th here despite not playing a single game before Jan 1st and continued on his form into the first part of the next season.

His form then went down horribly in the new year for a variety of different reasons which I'm not going to bore you with. He's picked up again this season though and added a bit more much needed variety to his game.

Good bump. I was critical of him last year during the second half of the season, thought he was absolutely gash compared to what you'd expect. This season though, he's been getting on with business quietly, and been very good.

Forget the Sneijders, Gaitans and what not. We have to make Gareth Bale our number 1 signing next season. especially if Spurs don't finish top 4 again this season. He's British, only 22 and suits United wingplay over all these years perfectly. Him and Nani on the wings will be fecking devastating

our number 1 signing? I dont think he's someone we really need

Class player but we're not in any desperate need for more wingers.

I reckon Nani and Valencia are showing signs of being every bit as good a pair.

Seems to have gone unmentioned on here but the best sign I've seen from United recently has been that not only has Valencia looked like rediscovering his form and partnership with Rooney, but that Nani has looked good on the left - something he struggled to look the last time Valencia had a run on the right. When that clicks, we'll be fine for wingers.

I'm constantly amazed at how many people overlook the contribution Valencia makes to us as a team. Last season it was our return to form in the last few months that made the difference between winning the league and making a CL final, or winning feck all.

This coincided with Valencia coming back into the side after a long-term injury and playing superbly. A coincidence? I don't think so.

This season we look to have turned the corner in our last couple of games. This happened after Valencia found some form after an injury-afflicted start and took over the right wing slot that everyone thought should remain Nani's indefinitely. Again, is it a coincidence that his return to form happened at the same time our team regained it's attacking mojo? Is it feck.

Obviously, Nani's our best winger but to ignore Valencia's contribution is just daft.

Huh? He's a very good player but we simply don't need him. He certainly shouldn't take priority over central midfield. Plus, he'd cost an absolute fortune. The only side that could afford him would be City.

He just seems to get underrated on here - partly because he's not a sexy silks type player, or maybe because he stayed at Wigan so long and moved quite late, leaving him associated with a mid-table side. That Valencia/Rooney partnership has definitely been at the centre of our best periods of late though.

The difference between the Valencia that played against Crystal Palace and the one that is playing is so stark, it's crazy

i rate Bale pretty highly, and think he wouldve been a great buy for us instead of Young last summer - especially as he could cover at LB if really needed, in my opinion.

It's easy to say that at this point, but I reckon we should wait and see how Young develops at United first. The difference in price would have been astronomical, too.

He's still so predictable, though his pace can be pretty devastating if he doesn't get tightly marked.

Fantastic talent.

Should be a united player but I can only see him going to City or Chelski or even Real

No he's not. Both their dribbling styles are very similar. Kick and run.

Think Valencia has much closer control than Bale, every time iv'e seen Bale dribble past someone it's just kick it about 10 yards ahead of himself and out pace the defender. At least Valencia can run at speed with the ball at his feet if needed.

He's much better than Valencia though. Faster with better dribbling.

Fair enough regarding the bolded part in your opinion, but i really don't think he is better dribbler and doubt he is faster, I think he has a better footballing brain and a wand of a foot though.

Couldn't agree more, it's baffling how he's overlooked so often.

It was not so long ago that Valencia was labelled as a one trick pony, predictable and had no left foot. That was certainly harsh and he does have his qualities to bring to the team, you would have thought that is Walcott. But Bale would bring so much more to United while still improving as a footballer. Anyway for me, kick, run and outpacing the defender isn't really counted as dribbling. Players like Messi, Nani, Silva and the 06/07 Ronaldo do that

His new* celebration is worse

*I think it's new.

He's a good player, but to call him the best left sided player in Europe is ridiculous. His hype has been based off of a selection of, albeit, brilliant performances, but they were certainly not to be seen every week. When teams generally mark him tightly and suffocate all of the space around him, he is exploited and struggles to operate.

Insanely overrated player. Take away that hat trick against Inter (who are absolutely appalling and have been since Mourinho left) and he's done feck all to merit the hype.
