Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Completely hypothetical obviously, but if we did a straight swap, Nani for Bale - What would people's thoughts be? Just trying to find the level people rate bale here, I for one, would much prefer Nani...

That's a hard call to make.

A happy, fully fit Nani would be the preferred choice, but what does it take to make him a happy, fully fit footballer? There's just something about him that makes him a frustrating footballer to watch. But you can't deny his ability.

On the other hand, Bale just gets the job done without all the drama queen antics.

Bale is a bit of a diver so I guess in that department he would sort of compensate Nani's drama queen antics.I would absolutely love it if there was a straight swap between the two because Bale's potential is huge. The room for improvement is all there to see and he is still a cracking player already

I'm a big Nani fan but of course I'd swap Bale for Nani in a straight swap. Bale is 3 years younger and one of the best players in the league this season. He's also more likely to want to spend his entire career in the premier league. Of course the swap would never happen.

''He's not Messi, he's not Ronaldo but he's definitely number 3.''

That insufferable prick, Sam Matterface, on Talksport. I know he said it to draw a reaction and I'm falling for it but feck, that type of hype is annoying.

Most of those feckers don't even watch football outside of England and have milner and similar players as best midfielders in world. I don't understand why are you even listening to that.

bale is under contract till 2016, i can't see levy letting him leave even if bale shits on levy's mum's face this summer.

bale is going to stay for another couple of years at spurs IMO.

His attempts to recreate ronaldos movements, his stance at free licks is embarrassing. Be your own man. He probably trains in a Madrid cr7 shirt the gorp

feckin this! Seriously needs to cut it out. Makes it appear as if it's all going to his head.

Yep and it shows when the international tournaments come around.

I hope Bale does stay on Levy's payroll, but if Spurs don't land a CL spot they'll be under heavy pressure to sell him, possibly as a replacement for Ronaldo, who looks more and more likely to return to Old Trafford.

I think Bale has proven this season he is one of the best wingers in the world. He's living up to the hype and it will be unfair to deny it. Averaging a goal every two games this season which is very good for a winger. He's better technically than people give him credit for so if he can improve his creative side he'd be absolutely devastating.

He's also a massive diver.

"5 - Gareth Bale has been given five cautions for simulation in the PL since the start of 2011-12. No other player has more than two. Fly."

Not just coincidence.

Yeah, but most referee's don't do anything when a player goes down. There should be much more yellow cards handed out, but most of the ref's bottle it.

Are you serious? That's the 3rd booking in a row totally undeserved. The ref should apologize to him, as he now misses a game.

Other two weren't deserved, I agree, but today's was, he went down to easily.

At some point I'm sure someone will create a GIF and then I think you'll change your mind. The guys knee banged into Bales knee. If it was one our players we'd all scream penalty all day long. It was certainly not a booking, even if you don't give the pen.

I saw it from 10 angles, It didn't bang really, it barely touched it, never enough to go down even outside penalty box.

There was contact it was a pen. He was correct to go down, but considering his reputation perhaps he should have stayed on his feet,

Absolutely no contact whatsoever, very clear dive.

Its getting ridiculous now. He does go down far too easily. He does sometimes dive. But refs have it in for him now and book him basically every time he goes down.

Someone posted the stat above that he has 5 yellows for diving in a period in which the next worst is 2 yellows. Do you feel that that is legit? That he stands alone as by far the worst cheat in the premier league in that period? He has, unfortunately, become a marked man.

As a comparison, Defoe performed an outrageous dive today. Didn't get booked, didn't get booed by the Sunderland fans and will be completely forgotten about within an hour.

Just because someone touches you, it's not automatically a foul.

If you can stay up but choose to go down, it's a dive.

This for feck's sake. Someone brushing you with their knee doesn't cause you to collapse.

When did football become so fecking cynical? Contact does not automatically equate to a foul. Christ, it'll be like basketball soon.

Good job, it's nice to see fans who aren't very biased when it comes to their own team.

Gareth bale is.....

A monkey faced diver who loves himself, and the next time he makes that stupid heart symbol I hope someone breaks his fingers

Surly persistent cheaters should be banned for longer, again and again and again he continues to dive and yellow cards dont seem to put him off from trying to con the officials

Sorry, have you watched the gif above?

Do you think in this particular incident, ignoring the context of the player we are discussing for a second, that there was no contact and that Bale dived and deserved a yellow card in this case?

the gif is poor, il watch motd and report back. when i heard he was booked for diving i just assumed it was a dive, maybe his reputation preceded him this time

I don't think it was a yellow, but i don't think it was a foul either. There was contact but it was minimal in my opinion.

I don't like how 'reputation' sometimes influences referees decisions either, but like Suarez has shown, if you let people hate you by consistently diving (Or in Suarez's case, being a cnut and diving) then it's going to happen whether we like it or not.

From my viewing, it looks like the Sunderland player's knee goes into Bale's knee of his standing leg but fair enough if you need to have another look.

And I think that is a major point. Quite often, Bale goes down because he is pushed off balance or whatever in something that I would not consider a dive and I wouldn't consider a foul either. Often, he doesn't bother claiming a fk himself. But he'll still be booked, simply because he now has a reputation for this kind of thing.

In fairness, he doesn't help himself with the theatrical way he often goes down, which occasionally brings him a yellow for diving even when he's actually been fouled. We need to tell him to cut that out or hire him an acting coach (perhaps Cazorla's or Walcott's ).

You must bore yourself writing this, I know I'm bored of reading it.

He loves himself, why not, he's a millionaire, fast, strong, quality at football. Who wants footballers to all be a bunch of modest, introverted, head down types. I hope he does the heart thing just to piss people off.

The GIF isn't poor, but it was obvious from the sky shots that he got fouled. If this was one of our players there would be outrage that he's now had 3 unjustified booking in a row. Not only that we'd be furious that no penalty was given. Bale was impeded. The TV shots showed at the GIF clearly shows it.
