Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Bale's performance was fantastic in that match. His hat-trick can't be dismissed simply by saying that Maicon "switched off".

And saying that it didn't matter is rubbish. It was crucial, since it kept Spurs in the tie and set up realistic possibility that Spurs could win the 2nd leg (in which Bale again ran Maicon ragged) and thus go through to the next round .

Are you changing history again Glaston? That's a couple of times in this thread where you've mentioned Bale keeping Spurs in the tie and setting up the 2nd leg to put them into the next round.

You talk about people not being able to comment on how good Bale is since they don't watch Spurs play. Considering you don't even know that Bale's one man superhuman wonder show was in a losing effort in a group stage match, i'd question just how many of Spurs games do you watch in a season, as it seems as though you didn't even bloody watch this one.

My only qualm with Nani and Valencia as our starters next season is that it's unbalanced. Nani operates at about 75% when he's stuck out left. His only goal is to cut right and shoot. He's better than Valencia on the right in my opinion. But then that leaves Ashley Young who I think is less efficient than Valencia.

We don't have a true left footed winger.

Well, if it was Rooney or Messi, it would still be in the group stages right? He also didn't comment on the performance at all.

You can't blame Brwned for correcting a point Glaston continously gets wrong, and yes, it does make a difference, considering the second half of Glaston's point hinged on how important and crucial the goals were.

GlastonSpur. You lost all credibility in this debate by rewriting history ...

I've already acknowledged in post 2041 that it was a group stage match and not a two-legged tie. But this doesn't wipe out existence of Bale's hatrick, nor his superb performances in both games against Inter, nor my view that he is one of the top LWs globally.

Nor does it change my view that many of the critical posters in this thread would be waxing lyrical about Bale if he played for Man. Utd.

It doesn't wipe out the existence of Bale's hat-trick, but the fact that in the end it didn't mean anything does a little bit. It was still a very good performance from him, but the great all-time footballing performances from individual players are all ones where they won their respective team the game. Maybe he could have done so, but the fact is that Bale didn't win the game for Tottenham, or get them anything from it. Could he have scored that hat-trick when it was 2-0 to Inter? Probably not.

I'm not denying that he's an excellent winger, but you seem to continue to overrate him time and time again in this thread.

I don't doubt that a lot of Man United fans would be very excited if we had him in our team, but I would hope that the sensible ones out there would be able to realise his true level and avoid insanely overrating him.

Anyone else think that Bale picks and chooses which games he plays? I don't think he fancied playing against United a few weeks back.
He had a 'virus'

The question is whether he can step up from being a somewhat one-dimensional, out and out winger like Valencia or whether he can add some variety to his game and become a multi-dimensional attacker.

The problem with him at times this season has been that 'Arry already thinks he's a multi-dimensional winger who can be given a more creative role in the centre, when the reality is that he's not ready for that yet.

tbh, he kind of did start adding a bit to his game earlier in the season.....coincidentally when everything was going right for Spurs in that win streak they had....I definitely seen him having plenty of time through the middle and occasionally on the right...but then he's been awful when he's started on the right....again from the games I've seen, I don't truly watch Spurs alot this year despite how fun they've apparently been.

There is nothing wrong with being one dimensional if he is consistently good at it and knows his limitations.
He clearly thinks he has more to his game, in which case he is far from the finished product.. Still has age on his side. Can develop his game.
At the moment, he isnt playing to his strengths.

He's a bit of a diver now isn't he ?

Part of what really annoys me about the English media.

Ive heard foreigners torn to shreds for cheating. You always get 'Aw we don't do that kind of thing here' from the pundits.

In last month, ive seen Bale dive a few times, including cheating a penalty at the Emirates.

Perch pretend to be shot, and Carroll diving to win a penalty.

All incidents pretty much swept under the rug, none of the harsh criticism johnny foreigner gets.

He actually admitted that he dives. Hardly a peep.

“Sometimes it looks like you’re diving but I think if someone’s coming across you, you just try and get out of the way.

“But because they haven’t touched you and you’ve got out of the way it looks like you’re diving.

“It’s a difficult one. You can see why people say you’re diving but at the end of the day I’d rather dive than get hurt.

“But whenever a challenge does come in I’m more likely to try and get out of the way and not get hurt rather than get hurt. I tend not to dive.”

Apparently Dani Alves made some comments about how he'd be good for Barca, but as a left back. Let the tapping up begin, again.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone by next season. I think he'll stay for one, maybe two at a push, more years. The contract just is a statement to other clubs that they're going to be demanding a massive fee for him, at least £30m being my guess.

Of course, it'll all depend on where Spurs are in a couple of years really. If they stay where they are now, he'll leave. If they can establish themselves as a top 4 club who are pushing higher year after year, then he may stay.

i agree with you, this contract is probably littered with "get out" clauses

Gareth Bale is....... A bit of a cry baby.

Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has branded Charlie Adam a coward after being sidelined for a second time by the Liverpool and Scotland midfielder.

Bale was out for three months with ankle ligament damage after a challenge by Adam, then with Blackpool, in 2011.

He was on left crutches again by Adam in a pre-season game on Saturday and said: "He's a bit of a coward.

"It's flattering if players try to take you out in a game but when it threatens your career it becomes more serious."

Adam joined Liverpool for an undisclosed fee of around £8m in July 2011.

"What he did was over the top," Bale insisted. "Some people are like that and it's just wrong.

"There are pictures on the internet of what he did before when he snapped all my ankle ligaments. I was out for three months that time. He's come for me twice now - and he's got me twice.

"When someone makes a very bad tackle on you, you expect an apology. I've had no apology. And I'm not going to accept his apology."

Spurs full-back Kyle Walker joined the condemnation of Adam and added: "Gareth is a very good player. He needs protection.

"Players shouldn't hate him. They should appreciate playing against a player like him. They can actually learn from him rather kick him.

"It's simple. He [Adam] is jealous, as Gareth is such a good player."

Not a cry baby at all, that's the second time Adam has injured with a bad tackle the second time being in a pre friendly match. He has every right to be pissed off with him.

It's also not the first time he's had a cry about being kicked. When a player comes out and has a cry like this it just makes me think "that's how you get at him then."

If he needs protection and/or wants to complain about the challenge he should let his manager handle it.

Charlie Adam also comes under the category of players who are bigger twats than Gareth Bale, and Gareth Bale at least has the excuse of being quite good.

Adam just cheats and acts like he's the best player on the pitch, even though he's usually closer to being the worst.
