Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

You need to define "many people" - and then somehow come up with a comparison measure of how many people do regard Bale as world class in his position.

""Bale is just amazing, amazing. He has killed us twice." Luis Figo.

Yeah a quote by Luis Figo does make him world class.

By many people, I was referring to the posters of the Caf. In your world, he's not rated here just because he doesn't play for Manchester United.

I haven't said that he's not rated on the Caf (I've seen a fair few posters on here who do rate him). I just suspect that some of those on here who don't rate him have fixed views that would only change if he signed for Man. Utd.

He's very good. But I do think he is also over rated. The media pick their darlings and their villains and he is a darling so always gets a lot of hype.

Bale is a fantastic player said it before I would love him here. Nani has a higher level but produces it less. I'd take Bale over him and young, Valencia though is a different story. A front four of RVP Rooney Valencia & Bale looks formidable in terms of team performance individual performance pace strength intelligence and balance would be a serious force if it happened.

I can't believe anyone wouldn't agree with that.

I have just checked Scotland's world ranking, and I can't believe they're so far down, so it does negate Bale's performance somewhat, but it doesn't stop his performance being sensational. When has Valencia ever done anything like what Bale did for his second goal? And let's be honest, football's about goals.

Did you not read it either? I'm talking about Bale vs Inter. I saw his goals and that was it. I can't say Bale vs Inter was much better than Bale vs Scotland when I saw feck all of it.

Football is not just about goals mate. How many nonsensical posts are you going to serve up? It's one of the many reasons football is a sport which requires more than statistical analysis. Goals win you games but the beauty of the sport is analyzing and investigating how a team scores a goal and the different avenues they do it (individual contributions, incisive passing moves, crossing into the box, etc). Why do you think players such as Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes are lauded by their respective clubs and fans? They offer goals but it is a bonus compared to their attributes. If the game was just about goals, no one would be drooling over Paul Scholes every pass.

Yes Bale has more in his locker now than Valencia, I dont think anyone doubts that. This was settled sometime ago. Valencia has scored a fair few belters though. We just argue over their productivity.

You're validating my point even more. Making statements like you've done on such limited game time can make you look silly.

Bale is good no doubt.

On current form obviously better than Nani but overall I don't think so.

Our own fans have trashed Nani so much that every opposition fan will claim any decent winger they have is better than Nani.

He's a good player that's been overhyped by the media, and by himself to a large degree. The spurs management and himself both think he is a Ronaldo-type player, as shown last season when they tried to play him more centrally. He is a speed merchant and once that goes he'll fade.

This is basically the main reason I dislike Bale. He needs to quit trying to be something he isn't. Just stick to running fast down the left, he isn't an attacking mid and doesn't have the ability/skills needed to be one so stop trying.

You dislike a player for attempting to improve his game? Bizarre. Actually he has started drifting infield quite a lot recently with positive results.

I think you will find that most managers prefer a player who has the ability and the determination to play in a different way. Opposition players know what Bale is good at, therefore they will attempt to negate his obvious strengths. With this in mind he needs to add more diversity to his game...to become less predictable. It's not rocket science it's just good practice.

And I also disgree that he doesn't have the ability to add to his game...he clearly does as he is proving right now.

You can't get on Bale's back for the media overhyping him. When has he overhyped himself?

I don't understand this vitriol when a player is merely trying to improve his game...it's just strange.

I'm still abit peeved that we didn't go for him when he was still at Southampton, though there were talks that he actually went to Spurs to get more chances of playing. Just felt we could have done a little more

The hate here for him is astonishing considering he's nothing on the level like Suarez and Big man. I bet if Fergie becomes a transfer muppet again next season and buy him, all the opinions will turn 180 degrees

We did go for him but he rejected us for Spurs as he'd got more playing time there. Fair play to him.

So much oddly placed bitterness in here. He's a good player, get over it.

It's like Hart. He's a good player, but when idiots call his performance against Scotland (fecking Scotland!) the best international performance they've ever seen they've ever seen I just lose it.

And it's not like it's the standout of this month! See Pedro for Spain. And for this year see Messi against Brazil.

I guess I can understand that, I do have a passionate hatred for Hart based purely on those reasons.

I've never really noticed it a great deal with Bale though, not since his Maicon raping performances anyway.

Needs to play for a top club before we can call him 'world class'. You have to be able to deal with the pressure of the big time to be 'world class'. He very well may be 'world class' but so long as he plays for Spurs, it is impossible to verify.

sums it up.

Also agree with the guy who said he's the darling of the media. That's why its laughed off when he cheats and the foreign guys are targeted.

The same people making accusations of bitterness towards him seem to be at the opposite end of him with a blinding love affair.

One guys going nuts over a 2 goal show against a national laughing stock

He took on the mighty danny fox, christophe berra, and Gary Caldwell and got the better of them, but then so did a lot of SPL players at one stage.

Didn't go nuts. I, unlike most people, have been perfectly calm. I'm still waiting for people to provide similar performances. What I do find funny is people telling me (or failing to, as the case is), that I have seen better

sums up Gareth Bale

Liam, you were practically creaming yourself, even worse when I noticed you had only seen highlights of the game

By that reckoning does that mean Totti was never world class? I think your wrong you can be world class and you don't have to play for a top team. It's like players who play for smaller clubs move to a top team and instantly get internationally recognised its wrong but you get the media spouting rubbish like look how he's improved in 3 months playing with better players etc etc what a lot of rubbish maybe that's the case after a year or two though

On the media darling point, there was an example of it the other week on motd, a Bale dive against villa and people were talking about having to see the funny side of the game. later in the prog, Suarez dives and he gets lynched.

Still think he's a magnificent player tho, would have him at United in a heartbeat.

I gave you two examples. From this month. Pedro for Spain, Falcao for Columbia and Messi for Argentina. From this year Messi against Brazil, Xavi against Italy, Pirlo against England...

And that's off the top off my head. Scotland are shit, Zoran Tosic gave them the run around.

He's a very good player. No 2 ways about it. Overrated and Underrated in equal measure.

He's a good player. This "World Class" and "Best left sided player in the world" is bollocks.

I just think he's trying to be something he isn't. He is a good player no doubt, but he's not Messi so quit trying to play like him. I don't watch Spurs religiously but I see them quite a bit and I've yet to see him perform particularly well in this new free role he thinks he should be playing in.

The phrase "world class" in itself is bollocks. Definition varies among everyone and is used to suit cases. I dont know why posters debate over classification when there's no fixed definition of world class in the first place.

But yeah, he isnt in the top tier of players and isnt the best left sided player either. I agree. He's overrated by many. That said, he's still very young and has a lot of time on his hand. Very few teams/fans would say No to him if given the chance to have him.

Its the manager that plays him there though. I dont see how it benefits the team either. He's much better playing as a traditional winger, more so with Adebayor in there. Its good for him though, will make him a better player. Nothing wrong in wanting to improve his game, why criticise him for that?

"World class" to me is a hypothetical situation, if you were asked to pick a 23 man squad to play Mars who would get into it? Bale isn't even the best winger in the premier league, let alone Europe. And I'd hate to say it....but wingers are dying out in a lot of modern systems.

You don't need a definition to it to know that Bale categorically isn't.

Xavi against Italy? No chance. They scored four goals, and he got none. That's hardly carrying a team is it.

Pirlo against England though, possibly. He did run the show. Although I'd say that Italy played better as a team than Wales did.

I'd not seen the others, which was my whole point.

He isnt world class, thats what i meant by saying he isnt in the top tier of players.
