Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

He has a point, Bale doesn't need to take a kicking in order for it to be a foul, if he goes down to avoid a careless tackle then it's still a foul.

Most of the time he's going down after he's been kicked. He's not avoiding injury he's trying to win a free kick.

brilliant the way people are going out their way to try and justify his cheating. Will be a load of foreigners in the league wondering why people don't do the same for them.

He avoided a good kicking here anyway. Such a kicking

The goalkeeper is flying out of his goal towards the ball, it looked for all the world like he was going to take Bale out. Watch from the angle in front of Bale, he moves his left foot away from the goalkeeper's movement to avoid getting kicked, it's no wonder he went down. Does he even appeal for the free kick?

Stop wumming

I dont have much to say about other teams' divers, we have had plenty of our own over the years. I only dislike footballers who come out and criticise others for diving when they are diving little wankers themselves. But this comment really belongs in the Stevie G thread.

That's not for him to decide

Alright, so you want him to stay on his feet after he has been fouled in order that the referee has the chance to make the wrong decision, hindering Bale's team. Good luck with that.

 get your eyes checked man, I never said nor implied that.
It's not players to decide when they should have a free kick or not. It's actually pretty simple but you interpreted it however suited you

This and this again, plenty of divers at our club too

If he gets kicked should he go down? If not, why not?

All this avoiding injury stuff makes me laugh. If someone was running at you in the street to lash a boot at you, would you avoid injury by hurdling their kick and allowing your legs to buckle under yourself, tucking them in in mid-air, whilst flicking your heels, causing you to fall onto your front or knees and slide along the pavement with your arms outstretched? Or would you just, you know, move or jump out of the way?

Why the need to throw themselves on the ground to avoid injury? It's only a Polar Bear, not a live grenade.

If he moves or jumps out of the way he'll be disadvantaged and the foul will go unpunished.

He'll avoid injury though, right? And that is what that article says he's doing, right?

Are we moving the goalposts again? Let's settle on what it is he's doing when he throws himself to the ground then, shall we?

Is he -

A. Avoiding injury?

or

B. Ensuring he gets a foul?

He dives, there's no 2 ways about it. Avoiding injury is such a stupid thing to say, if you go on the football pitch and want to "avoid injury" then maybe it's not the sport for you. It's one of the risks you take as a football player.

The footballers and non-footballers in this thread are easy to pick out.

Diving has also become the most tedious subject matter in football.

Both.

It's such a fecking tiresome subject because people act like its black and white. Every single tackle/foul/dive has loads of variables making them impossible to judge. Just let the refs get on with it unless its one of those mental dives like Pederson(?) where he's yards away from anyone.

Comes down to this belief that contact equals foul which it doesn't. Not all contact will actually impair you and Bale and others seem to believe if they're touched then they're fouled when in reality thu could easily keep going and go out of their way to show they've been clipped.

Also think its quite funny that people are defending bale. Can bet they condemned ronaldo when he was here or would pick nani etc up on it.

These are stupid questions to ask IMHO.I don't look at things from this POV because it's advocating cheating in a way.If he's going down to avoid a truly horrendous tackle that could really hurt him then it makes sense but Gareth Bale is a cheat. Most of the times he goes down it's because he wants to win a Free Kick or get his opponents booked and not to avoid some dangerous tackles.
Very happy to see him get more noticed as the cheat that he really is

Avoiding injuries  Imagine all players diving to avoid injuries, you would have 5 or 6 players rolling on the pitch at every moment of the game.

What's next, keepers not making great flying saves because there are risks of injuries?

This and this again, plenty of divers at our club too

Not too much recently to be fair, only Young and Welbeck(but he is really not that big diver).

Its just that some players are so good at diving nobody notices and some who needs some more practice to get away with it

Kick and run merchant isn't he, never comes inside, can't do anything if he's marked, nothing without his pace.......

Wait until he has a bad game, then all the over rated noncence people will be back.

Michael Carrick got double Bale's assist total for the season today. ;)
