Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

He'd make a great left winger for us, I'm sure, but he'd be nowhere as influential as he is for Spurs right now where he's essentially a striker. I've been trying to point it out already, but it doesn't seem to register with some.

He really isn't. He moves about all over the place, sometimes playing as a LW, sometimes as a RW, and sometimes in a free attacking mid role.

Apart from anything else, how many strikers pick up the ball from deep inside their own half and run with it a long way before scoring? Bale has done this many times.

You are obsessed with Ronaldo coming here

ob·ses·sion (b-sshn, b-)
n.
1. Compulsive preoccupation with a fixed idea or an unwanted feeling or emotion, often accompanied by symptoms of anxiety.
2. A compulsive, often unreasonable idea or emotion.

Not really.

I'm a huge Bale fan and even took abuse from some on the newbie board for having the audacity to compare him favorably to Nani. But the likelihood of Fergie spending 55m for Bale, which is probably what it's going to take to pry Bale off Levy's hands, is virtually nil. The chances of Levy letting Bale go for less than 50m+ are also probably nil.

Speculation in the Spanish press about Ronaldo's future with Real is at a fever pitch. Ronaldo wants to leave and Fergie wants him back. We know that. As much as the desire to see Bale come to United is understandable, if the opportunity truly does present itself to bring Ronaldo back home, the decision is a no-brainer for Fergie.

But football is a business and Real just may not want to sell to United, unless they demand we throw in Chicharito and possibly Vidic PLUS whatever crazy fee they put on the table. It would break my heart to see Chicharito go so I can't even be rational about that hypothetical possibility.

But if it's an "obsession" to suggest that Ronaldo coming back to Old Trafford is as plausible as van Persie going to Old Trafford, then so be it, though I can assure I'm feeling no "symptoms of anxiety" whatsoever. But I appreciate your concern!

Ronaldo's getting on a bit now, Bales the future

Would you not agree we're within touching distance of being able to beat Barcelona "now"? Not quite there, we all agree, but close enough so that the addition of one great player would get us there. Do you not agree?

All Bales best stuff comes from outpacing his opponent which he is awesome at. Begs the question what he will be like when he does start to lose his pace, as far off as it may be.

Fair enough, he doesn't operate as a traditional lead-the-line striker, so that was a lazy statement from me. He roams a fair bit, and drops deep as well, but my point was that he's not operating as some magic left winger that's suddenly scoring all sorts of crazy goals from the left wing, and if he came here and we placed him on the left wing he wouldn't be as effective in terms of goals as he is for you right now (long sentence).

He's profiting now from being afforded the freedom to roam that comes along with being your main attacking threat, and he wouldn't produce the same results if you stuck him on the left wing and asked him to hug the line.

You don't "know" that Ronaldo wants to leave. That's purely guesswork.

Obsessed: adjective

having a complete preoccupation with someone or something, to an extent that seems extreme to others. (Collins English dictionary)

Really? Didn't we all know that Ronaldo wanted to leave for Real Madrid, long before it was announced that he was in fact sold to Real? Of course we did. I didn't have legal proof of it, but we all knew it even if we feigned shock when the news was announced. And if you didn't know, then I respectfully suggest you were living like this:

And this!

(All in good fun, mate!)

All we do know is that Ronaldo wants to leave Real and that Fergie wants him back. What we don't know is whether a deal can be structured that works for Real and works for United. At that point you and I can only speculate as whether a deal is doable. Maybe Ronaldo goes to PSG. Who knows?

But surely you must agree with me that the likelihood of us doing a deal for Bale is more remote, more speculative, than us doing a deal for Ronaldo. And perhaps, but not surely, you would agree with me that on a pure football level -- as well as a commercial level -- Ronaldo would be a much more significant asset for United than Bale. And I say that as someone who saw in Bale incredible stuff long before he hit this ridiculous run of form this season.

All Bales best stuff comes from outpacing his opponent which he is awesome at. Begs the question what he will be like when he does start to lose his pace, as far off as it may be.

He then turns into a Phillip Lahm type left back ar 32. I dont know... He's lightening quick as it is so even with a lose of pace would still out pace most unless he gets Michael Owen syndrome.

Yep that's my point of contention. Would love him at united, him on one flank, nani on the other, would be awesome. But I don't think he could do what he's doing for Spurs for us because we have better central players in Rooney and RVP.

At Spurs he's given a freedom none of our wingers enjoy, a freedom Ronaldo had and personally I don't think he's shown enough to force someone like Rooney to change his game to accommodate him. He's the main man at spurs, he takes every set piece, can shoot on site regardless of the distance etc, at united we already have star players who will do that and as I said I can't see how he's at a level to make players in our team accommodate him.

And if we did want him as more of a winger then I certainly wouldn't pay 50m for him as whilst he's certainly played better than our wingers I wouldn't say he's more than twice the players they are when they play as we'd expect.

But still all credit too him, that second goal on monday was great and he's showing that he can carry the responsibility of being the main man. But like I said there are certain perks of being the main man that he is enjoying and I highly doubt he'd get them at united.

Bale is a class player and still improving , and there's still more improvement to come - I think he'll stay at Spurs for a while yet if they maintain CL status.....

Another great Bale exclusive from the Daily Mail!:

Gareth Bale has been socking it to opposition teams all season, but now Sportsmail can reveal one of the secrets of his success.

'The Tottenham star, 23, has been spotted wearing special non-slip socks, which claim to help anchor a player's feet inside his boots, improving traction and increasing acceleration.

Cheers, mate. I'll be back once I've read how Bale's form is due to giving up eating Twix bars between matches.

75% of all TV programming is Gareth Bale

"Back of the Net's Paul Watson reports that there's no escaping the Tottenham winger...

Three out of every four television programmes now involve Tottenham star Gareth Bale, an independent watchdog has revealed.

The Welsh international continued his magnificent season with a spectacular last-minute winner on Monday evening to round off a virtuoso performance as Spurs beat West Ham 3-2. And it seems that Bale’s efforts have struck a chord with the nation’s media.

Several of Tuesday’s papers compared him favourably to the likes of Jimmy Greaves, Dave Mackay and Mahatma Gandhi. Even The Sun, usually renowned for its level-headed approach to reportage, labelled his goal ‘the greatest achievement in human history’.

Sky Sports News dedicated 12 uninterrupted hours to replays of Bale’s wonder strike, pausing only to preview a further hour of replays of the goal and allow clumsy, mechanical flirtation between its dead-eyed hosts.

Meanwhile the BBC’s website offered to option to view the site in ‘Bale mode’ where every news story was in some way connected to Gareth Bale.

A report from a TV watchdog states that 75% of TV broadcasts on Tuesday contained Bale, 20% featured omnipresent Scottish songstress Emeli Sandé and 5% were crossovers involving both. The conclusion of the report stated that "presently, any person in the United Kingdom with their eyes open will be looking at Bale or Sandé in some capacity".

He really wants to be Cristiano Ronaldo. That hairstyle, lawlz.

Another great Bale exclusive from the Daily Mail!:

I wonder if he's been wearing socks called "Trusox", which I was tempted to buy for myself but a single pair costs $40. Too rich for my blood. The grip inside your shoe is said to be incredible.

I'm so confused by the hatred for him in this thread.

Cool finish again. His finishing when clean through isn't often talked about when people bang on about his pace and shooting from range.

quite embarrassed by some of the crap written about him in this thread! He is a quality player with potential to play for the best clubs in the world, get over it.

Quiet for large parts today I thought but his threat is evident. Great run (supported by the zombies in Arsenal's defence) and class finish. I'm delighted we've got Spurs out of the way already this season.

He looks like a knob, stupid hair and all; but feck me can he play football. Fergie, sign this lad up!

Lucky for Spurs that Jenkinson and Ramsey's final ball was so rubbish from RB as Bale did absolutely nothing defensively

he's getting lauded for finishing one on one with the keeper after the keeper committing himself too?

Why don't we praise him for the way he brilliantly turned in the OG too

fecking hell you are a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime.

He's getting praised for a clever run with a good finish. And you want him to be criticised for being hit by the ball which was half a foot away at best from him?

Goal number 20 for him this season, 16 of them in the league.
