Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

The hype is obnoxious, but tbf, this is CR7 in 2007 stuff.

Didn't have the best of games but once again he single-handedly rescues Spurs. Fantastic goal.

I don't particularly want him, but I have to say of all the serious purchases being touted at the moment, he's the one I'd be most confident would excel for us.

He's proven in the PL, has shown this season that he can play to his top level consistently, and his current form is obviously not reliant on a specialised system (a la any Dortmund player) or a team of superstars behind him. Plus the signs are that our style of football would fit him like a glove. So there's not much risk there compared to most other big targets.

Having Bale on our right wing wouldn't be a bad option either. He's still got a pretty decent right foot and can cut in and do that. A lot better at shooting than Robben who has been doing this for years.

Bale would be a perfect suit for United. He'd have the freedom to destroy small/average teams and in more difficult matches where more discipline would be needed, he could play as a typical winger who helps his full back and attacks.Sign him up ffs

He's most definitely not a striker either, so comparisons with RVP and Suarez aren't fair. So many of his goals come from him picking the ball up in deep positions. I bet he spends less than 50% of the time in the box compared to RVP and Suarez.

Maybe you do go in for Bale over Ronaldo. I just don't know which would be the better acquisition. Ronaldo is the greater player today, but Bale is already insane and has more years ahead of him.

A predicament!

He's one of those players I wouldn't mind us breaking the bank for. He can do everything. He's obviously one of those players Fergie hinted we would find a space for, even if we aren't in desperate need.

Negotiating with Spurs won't be fun though.

will cost a fortune then. I expect us to trade a couple of players plus cash to get him...assuming he stays in this country.

I don't know where people have gotten this idea that we would have to trade players for him. If SAF really wants him, we could afford him.

Sure didn't we spend 100m on transfers only the summer before last?

Would people say Bale's season this year has been better than any other Giggs' seasons to to date? Premier league only.

He was never productive as Bale is this season(in terms of goals, even though he had nice number of assists in almost every season), but in terms of overall play Bale is still not good as Giggs.

Bale has yet to hit the levels Giggs did at his very best. People always point to the goals, but they forget that when Giggs was Bale's age a winger was actually a winger. Makes me wish they recorded assists back then.

no. Giggs in the late 90s was amazing...as close to Best I had seen...until Ronaldo...who was closer...

If Bale would have been playing and scoring 20 odd goals a season back then you would have thought he's close to Best. Giggs is a legend and as produced consistently for years, hard to say he's had a better season than Bale this year though (individual season, not team performance)

Spurs are tough business people. I don't see us paying 50 million for him...which is at least what they would want.

50-60m € would probably be what we have to pay for him and he is well worth it atm I think.

The thing is it's what some of the best players go for these days even the 20 year old talents, Hazard, Moura and Götze, Martinez all cost around 40m €, considering that Bale is British and already plays in the PL he will probably cost a tad more than those players.

Fair point. Bale's not really a traditional winger these days. First memories of football are World Cup 98 so can't comment on Giggs' 94 season.

Yeah, Ronaldo was a step above. An absolute joy to watch aside from goals and assists.

Wrong forum to ask.

Ask people to name the season that Giggs got close to Bale's form this season. Giggs was never the best player in the league and this was when the Prem wasn't as strong as it is these days. There was a time when most outside of Utd would have said Pires was the best wide player in the Prem.

Beckham, Keane and Scholes were all largely seen as better or more important than Giggs. These days fans forget that and Giggs is afforded and false nostalgia.

Great player no doubt. Amazing servant and insane career. But longevity doesn't mean you reach the peaks of other players.

The bold is exactly the point, why comparisions between Giggs and Bale are silly.

Giggs´ biggest strength was not so much his abilities at his peak in the 90´s, but his monstrous consistency over nearly two decades, which makes him truly special and a legend.

Let us talk in five to ten years, when it is clear, if Bale can hold his world class form over several seasons and display it on both the national and international level at the same time.

It also remains to be seen, if Bale can work the way he does now when he does not have such a free role like in Tottenham.

Wouldn't having Bale on the right better than having him on the left? He has clearly improved his shooting so he should be playing there so that he can cut in and shoot with his stronger foot.

Anyway AVB has said he will be staying at Spurs but I think Levy will not turn down a big offer from Madrid.

Maybe silly but inevitable as they are both Welsh and both end their careers playing for United. :p:cool:

Ronnie played on the right as well while being a right footed player as long as you don't consistently do a Robben I don't think it's too important if you play on the left or the right and Bale even seems to be at best playing in the center.
