Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Controlling the space probably wins that battle of stupidity because of the grandiose nature of the point, but at least he didn't dedicate a whole thread to it.

A bit like when Mourinho got hailed as a tactical revolutionary for essentially parking the bus with Inter against Barca.

He did? I just remember more being made of how he got the team to put in a spirited performance. and of course him lapping it up at camp nou

Just out of curiosity brwned, since you watched a lot of football matches from different eras, would you consider this article accurate in terms of "new spaces"? http://adinosmanbasic.wordpress.com/2013/11/17/new-spaces-to-target-the-evolution-to-protect-them/

I'm sorry but I could never read an article that long based on football tactics. All I know is within the football tactics pseudo-intellectual culture there's this incessant need to talk about modern this and revolutionary that, when most of the time it's anything but that.

Yeah you've got a point there. I'm in uni now but i'd like to watch some old matches when I graduate just to get some more perspective about the game. Whats your main resource?

You didn't miss anything - I'd call it simplistic crap, but that would give crap a bad name.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ger-Andre-Villas-Boas-had-become-distant.html

A pinch point arrived last May on Spurs’ post-season tour to the Bahamas which was also used as an opportunity for Villas-Boas, Levy and the club’s owner Joe Lewis, who lives on the islands, to meet. Top of the agenda was Bale’s future, with Villas-Boas urging the club to keep him for one more year – and add Hulk and Villa to create a new forward line. Villas-Boas wanted that evolution – not a revolution – at Spurs in the playing staff but was also pushing for off-the-pitch changes, including the hiring of Baldini and the overhaul of the medical department. The signings were rejected and, of course, Bale was sold to Real Madrid for £85 million but only, in fairness, after he had pushed for the move. Spurs held talks with Manchester United, who were willing to pay £100 million and might also have taken Adebayor, but Bale was adamant that he only wanted to go to Madrid.

So Moyes "Close...very close major signing" was Bale?!?!

Adebayor to us is such a bizarre shout, can't see anything he'd really offer us that we don't have in our other strikers.

edit: Also I don't see Levy missing out on the chance to milk Real for an extra £15m if we'd offered that amount

It says we "might have taken Adebayor"? The only way that would make any sense would be if when we offered the money for Bale they said only if you take this clown as well and all we could say was "eh....maybe"

Not if Bale was adamant on Madrid.

Not if Bale was adamant on Madrid.

True, but ultimately it depends on whether Madrid knew that. You'd think that his agent would've stayed coy to get the best possible contract and so if United had put in an offer (which I don't think we did for that money) Tottenham would've had every right to wave that at Madrid until they raised theirs.

Not the most spectacular of returns after his injury last night, but did a good job on the right wing I thought, some nice balls in. Plus he did this:

El Mundo saying the entire deal will cost Madrid 265 million Euros.

265... Million. Unbelievable figure.

Yeah, it is.

They're going tit for tat with Madrid because of the creep out of stories about the Neymar transfer, some of which include wild guesses about the player's wages. They're making a guess about Bale's wages here.

It's a fair point though. These are members' clubs, not PLC's or private companies. Yet the members only see the raw numbers, like total wage bill, in the accounts. Everything else is press speculation. Transparency? Not much.

Of course all the contracts are labelled as commercially sensitive and confidentiality clauses protect the clubs / players from deeper analysis, which means speculation and leaks (and politics) drive these discussions.

It was a lovely goal. He does much better when Ronaldo isn't playing I find. Felt he didn't do so much other than that goal, but I wasn't fully focused on the game.

We do, but none of the matches he doesn't feature in are of real significance, so you can't really make a judgement off that...

The left peg on this guy... he generates so much power almost from stance, it's unreal. He's going to be such an important player for us.

So happy with the quality we have in attack right now. A nice problem to have for Ancelotti.

But do they get the results?

Wonder if there are Madrid stats based on games with and without Ronaldo.

My bet would be that they average less points without him though.

Well he rarely is absent but in the recent few games he's been suspended, Real Madrid have played better and won their matches rather comfortably. Statistically speaking, we'd need him to see get a long term injury and how Real Madrid would play like that.

The best thing that Carlo has done this season IMHO is selling Ozil and playing Di Maria in midfield.

Well, I'd have to agree, Di Maria and Modric have been the standout performers conistently throughout this season. Bale, Isco and Jese have been fantastic additions aswell.

Could this be the year we finally win the 10th? It's looking very good I must say.
If we can avoid Bayern until the final, who knows..

His stats are amazing and the crazy thing is that he's never properly settled yet. I still feel he isn't at times on the same wavelength as his teammates but it has been getting better for him.

I'm not a fan of neither Barca or Real but I've been watching a lot more Real games because the football they've been playing has been great. Better than Barca's easily.

Ancelotti is pretty great in Europe.

Which we obviously don't want to see.

I suppose it's an impossible one to make any clear argument either way, he'd have to leave or get injured as you said, to gather any sort of evidence.

Don't do it amol, don't you dare to make me dream! It's the hope that kills you.

If (big if) we land the 10th CL, I'm booking my flight and I'm off for a few days or a week. You guys don't know how crazy madrid is normally, let alone when we finally win what we've been after for more than decade.

When is the final by the way? Haven't them been played on a saturday the past few years?
