German Football 21/22 | Gladbach sign Farke

SWEET UPAMECANO.

How is that not a penalty? He just pulls Thuram as he's breezing past him.

Another penalty from Upamecano SECONDS after... feck me..

VAR in Bundesliga once again a joke and Bayern as usual getting away with murder.

I had a feeling that you'd post quickly. :D You're absolutely right in this case, though. Horrible decision.

How did ref miss that?

What a game this is for a 1-1. Bayern fortunate not to be down at this point after being unlucky with their finishing.

I wouldn't rule out that there ha been some rule or guideline change over the summer that explains why neither situation was overturned, but I think this game makes it abundantly clear why it's necessary that referees have to explain their reasoning for critical calls after the game.

I'm watching it on Sky Sports with british commentators. They agree with the decision and praised it quite a lot. Baffling.

Yeah, Gladbach also created few very good chances after Bayern scored but just missed the chances by few inches.

I guess if you take leeway in both situations to its theoretical limit you can maybe somehow justify the calls, but Upamecano was beaten twice and just went after the man instead of the ball. From behind. And in the spirit of the game that has to be a foul.
I also think if you extend the benefit of the doubt to one side first it should go the other way the second time.

What a way to start the Bundesliga. Hütter's side have gotten a decent result all things considered. Bayern will grow into the season and get better, but for now, they're vulnerable to dropping points.

Can't complain about the draw all in all, game could have rightfully gone either way in different phases. Okay first real match under Nagelsmann.

Saw bits of it, Upamecano looked very dominant.
I saw some weaknesses that could be exploited. Upamecano keeps getting sold way too easily. He needs to learn not to rely on his pace and strength so much when defending. There were so many instances where he'd press up, leave a lane open for the ball holder, and get bypassed on several occasions. Thuram, in particular, caused Upamecano lots of problems.

Even in the box, Upamecano was a step behind on several occasions, but I'd put that more down to a lack of sharpness.

Ya I didn't see most of the match, from what I saw he was very aggressive and dominant 1v1, but of course that can also cause positional problems once you're beaten/deceived.

That is indeed strange. To me the second is not necessarily a penalty but you can’t complain if it’s given. however the first one is a clear penalty.

:D if I'm complaining it's mostly a good sign because I only bother when it's competitive.

Funny, for me it's the other way around. First could be one but the pull wasn't strong and both players just got their legs tangled up.
Second situation, Thuram even tries to stay on his feet first but simply gets tripped and run over about three times without the ball being played at all.

Entertaining match overall.

Yeah, definitely up for interpretation but one should have been a penalty.
For the first one he shoves him and also kicks his feet. The second is more a „he is behind me so I’m gonna slow down and let him run into me“ situation.
The first foul Upamecano had to make since the Gladbach player would have scored. The second was stupid by Upa.

2nd one wasn't a pen, first one was.
It was so far off the ball though that it would rarely be given even if it absolutely should.

Anyway, a point away at Gladbach is a good result considering our record there.

What a start by Union Berlin. Leverkusen's ultra-attacking setup should keep them in the match, but they needed that first goal to kick things off. Awoniyi's started off excellently, whilst Kossounou shouldn't have stepped as far back as he did.

Yup, Leverkusen's goal was coming.

Is Leverkusen really ultra attacking? It looks like a pretty standard 433 or 4231 on paper.

I'm more so referring to their personnel. Two wing backs flanking two aggressive defenders, and 3 midfielders, none of whom are particularly defensive in any way.

Overall, though, this has been an even affair though Leverkusen are still slowly on the rise.

Now that I've put on the Augsburg-Hoffenheim match, Hoeness's setup is looking more like an old-school 2-3-5. I'm enjoying this from Hoffenheim so far.

Hoffenheim and their tactical uniqueness...I always enjoy watching them.

Well. I wouldn't call it unique, but it's true that - much like most of their brethren - they try to play progressive football with young and technically sound players.

Yeah, I definitely spoke too soon. Their setup's more conventional, but I still like the full backs playing like old-school half backs.

Called it before the start of the season. Bayern has been poor and yesterday they were lucky not to lose against Gladbach. That's what happen when you hire a young manager who has never managed a big team.

According to this Twitter user Union fans have displayed covidiot banners, booed/whistled at players who have been racially insulted the last time they faced each other (Amiri I'm guessing). Though it has to be said that while he claims to be a Journalist he doesn't have the Twitter checkmark. What is however veryfiable by the screenshots is that their official match ticker wrote that the referee is wearing a Bayer jersey under his black outfit and that he may get a a share of Bayer's point bonus.

There's a difference between being biased and calling the referee corrupt. Clubs should be able to find it.

Complaining that the referee is biased for the opponent is a typical fan talk staple, it's really not a big deal. It's the live ticker on the fecking Union website, for crying out loud. Who goes there and then complains about lack of balance?

Well I can tell you who. Dumbarses who think being smug pricks on Twitter isn't actually an inacceptable, detestable way to spend your time and behave towards other people.
