FSG cleared the debt they took on using Liverpool’s own revenue. Obviously it won’t happen overnight, but if the glazers worked on clearing it over the next 5-7 years it’s doable.
Thankfully MUST seem more interested in building meaningful change, rather than online point scoring or fighting with the cops.

Why is everyone so concerned about the club’s debt? Do you have to pay it back? I only care about transfers. Last summer was poor, hopefully they will do better now. Even last summer could have been better if they spent more wisely.
And you could well be right; I'm no financial expert at all, but, with their other commitments, it would be a BIG new pressure on their resources. Could they handle the re-payments themselves (assuming they don't have the liquidity to pay up front) if the United cash cow couldn't do it for them? Hypothetical as they want the risk borne by the club not themselves.

When I pay for tickets, sky subscriptions, BT subscriptions ect. That contributes towards the tens of millions we pay in interest towards those debts every season. Debts that contribute towards the billion that has been drained from our club, the billion that is contributing towards stopping Old Trafford from receiving much needed renovations and from us being able to invest in the local community in the way City has and yes from spending as much in the transfer market as we could even though we have spent a lot.

Your original post was great tbf, just an emotive topic for most people.
It absolutely is emotive for everyone – because the club means so much to all of us. Seeing someone take ownership of it through a method that minimised their investment is galling and just feels wrong.

Perhaps, but they've already had sixteen years and have no shown no intention at all of changing their model.
United are nothing more than an ATM machine to the Glazers and the only thing they care about is that the machine keeps spitting out money. This statement is nothing more than an effort to keep that happening. You (we) can all sit back and give them time to prove that they are committed to the things they said they were in the letter, but I am 100% convinced this is nothing more than kicking the can down the road while they keep making withdrawals. Once people wise up and call them out again, they will just send out another letter, or something similar to distract/mislead people to buy them more time.

Personally, I see them as one and the same; fecking parasites that don't give two squirts of piss about (most) of the teams they own. Agreed, I must have put a minimum of £2k a year into the club (and that's probably underestimating it) for the last 25 years. I would like to see how that compares to the total sum of investment made by the collective Glazer family! Its depressing that I already know the answer!

Honestly, Joel's words are hollow at this stage. I want to see what their "promises" actually result in before I start to feel better.
The bit about investing in Old Trafford and Carrington is clearly bullshit. How about they pay off the £500M in debt they put on the club and plug 500M into the stadium refurbishment and transfers. ,Put your money where your mouths are you cnuts.
How would that help exactly? No fecker can come up with a way to get the Glazers a few billion quid other than to hope some other rich arsehole or gulf state does it.
Until there’s an actual viable alternative, of course MUST should listen and try to work with the current owners for meaningful change.

About rightIt’s not me they need to appease. I agree with most of your lengthy post. I have the same pragmatic viewpoint on the whole:
- As much as the club was publicly floated, it was a tragedy that a leveraged buyout was allowed to happen.
- I am somewhat indifferent to owners profiting from the club, provided it does not come at the expense of on-field success. I am a supporter of Manchester United, the senior men’s team and not a shareholder.
- That said, the Glazers are leeches and we could have far better owners for the footballing side of the club.
- On the other hand, we could have owners that are far worse and that would give me a real moral and ethical dilemma about my relationship with the club. United’s success being funded by blood money for the purposes of sport-washing would be tragic.
Words are hollow until we see follow through on those things. I have no reason to trust these guys until I'm actually given some reason to do it. I'm not sure it'll be enough though, and ideally I would just like them gone to be honest.
But in the real world, they are here to stay.

You know, you don’t have to? I haven’t bought anything for 7 years and I’m ok. More should be spent on stadium, I agree. But I don’t think we should spend much more on transfers.

The only way we'll be rid of this disease is if/when they die. The most we can do is help speed up that process, by legal means of course.

To be fair if they don’t follow through there’s nothing stopping the fans from protesting again in the same manner but for a whole season. It’s obviously a tactic that has rattled them big time along with the political pressure and negativity around the sponsors.

Debt is corporate tax avoidance at the company level and income tax avoidance at shareholder level. Glazers reduce debt by £100m but United pay £100m more tax ( i know this is simplistic) who gains?
Some of the comments on here are pretty disgusting. Is it because they are Jewish? or American? or both? They are legally United's owners, as soon as United became a public quoted company they were sitting ducks for a debt takeover given their brand and income potential. If you want to blame somebody blame the people who cashed in taking United public.
I support the team, players and manager. I am old enough to remember the 'glory days' under ownership of the butcher. Do you think he had anything to do with finding the Best footballer of all time, or his sad demise? If it wasn't for govt money because of the '66 WC, OT would have stayed a pig sty in thr 60s.
Give it a rest, let us see if they honour some of their promises, they have had a shock to the system with the ESL ( not a few yobs at OT). Their vision of recreating the NFL has gone, so now they need a new model. The trick is working with them to satisfy all parties, not against them. The sooner they are satisfied, the sooner they will go on to new pastures.
