Television Gotham - TV series

Public service announcement:
Kids, hiding in discarded fridges and freezers is only safe for the butlers of superheroes!

Ha, you forgot 'Bin lorries should never be considered a viable form of public transportation'.

As regards the "strange", I don't think they put too heavy a focus on those elements although it is a valid observation, especially with regards Selina 'tidying herself up'. They could hardly have Silver playing the role of evil seductress whilst bumming around in sweatpants and a knitted jumper though. Maybe they got a little carried away but it never struck me as distasteful or particularly noteworthy for that matter (I do not have a young daughter FWIW).

This season has kept a good pace without forcing it too much (the end of season one felt a bit rushed to me) and whilst they keep throwing in new supervillains seemingly every week (they must assume we have very limited attention spans) it somehow seems to work. They even had a chilling introduction this week in spite of the fact it bore absolutely no relevance to any of the preceding plot whatsoever. Madness.

I'm absolutely lovin' this season … every episode is like a mini blockbuster film the production team that has to turn NYC into Gotham have hit the nail on the head, I recognise a few places (mainly around bridges and docks) but other than that I'm sucked in. I'm really not sure how long it's planned to go on but if that little wimp is going to end up as Batman one day that'll take an eternity … I'll be more than happy!

Binge watched this and have finally caught up. Season 2 is defo better than s1.

There are some stupid elements that make you scratch your head, but somehow I give comic book adaptations a bit more leeway... cos...

Do think we need more fight scenes and more Riddler/Penguin scenes.

Finally found a way to wathc the rest of season 1 and get into it. I just press the fast forward past Fish's storyline and suddenly it's a good show.

THat was one of the biggest problems with her. It seemed like they just had a storyline for her for the sake of her being on TV, even if it didnt make sense. I actually thought her over the top character is made for a show like this but it just wasnt connected imo.

Watched episode 2 of season 2 and wow it's really started well. Jerome was fantastic in ep2 especially.

Really looking forward to how it goes from here.

Yepp, that sucks. Hate where they are going with The Joker too.

Where were they going? Down the 'anyone can be Joker' route? That's what I took away from the whole "your legacy will be death and madness" or whatever it was, and then the random people breaking out into laughter etc.

Yeah, thats how I see it as well. TBH, I dont mind it given this isnt really part of DC cannon and is just another universe-type story.

The Joker is supposed to be one of the people inspired by Jerome's madness. Essentially making him a copycat. Something that is completely against the thesis of The Joker.

I think they have gotten some flak for it from fans though, as they have recently hinted that Jerome could come back.

I hope Jerome is dead for good. Overrated character. The idea the joker is still to come and could be anyone who might be influenced by jerome is a good one imo.

Its a terrible idea and you are terrible.

In all seriousness though, I liked the actor of Jerome and he was one of the better characters in the series. I don't like the idea of The Joker being inspired by some other guy, like a cheap imitation. The whole point if The Joker is that there is no motive for him, he does things because he can. If they give him a dumb motive like "He saw a guy on TV and it inspired him to wear makeup and dye his hair green" then it just destroys the essence of the character. Also, trading in Jerome for a rather generic bad guy (The one who killed him) feels a bit cheap.

But this Jerone was also being inspired by his boss, and recluted to be part of a criminal organization, under his boss commands. That is not very jokerish. Joker is a lonely madman, boss of his own.

I thought Jerome was too obvious.

I would like more mistery behind the joker. Even that theory Fish could become him was more interesting.

Fish could become the Joker?? How'd you figure that out?

Not my idea. I read it somewhere, maybe in this same thread, cant remember where i read it. But its interesting... she already has different body parts on her.

i can see her being put in a bathtub full of chlorine for a whole year, only to come out as a crazy joker alter ego.

I agree about Jerome too. Giving the Joker backstory humanises him too much. Personally, I don't want a Joker in Gotham, I feel it wont do his character right.

Just hope we get more Riddler and Penguin scenes.

And somebody asks about Riddlers gf and why she is missing...

Yeah but is that it? Thats all it takes, one person to say? Unless they go into it later, surely they must do.

Maybe that's how it was in the good old days without internet and cellphones. if an officer of the law tell you something, you just believe him.

You need an inquisitive mind like Fox Mulder to raise those questions, but yeah, i think at some point next season he will be on the run.

Good episode.Really liking Hugo Strange and the twist on the Mr Freeze story line.

I'm only really invested in the batman villains on this show. That's why I have no interest in this current arc.

Good return, some of the Mr. Freeze scenes appeared a lot more patient and thoughtful than anything that has gone before and seemed to have been shot a lot better (the character development scenes rather than the action ones). It is nice that the show seems to be growing towards its potential rather than gradually getting worse, as is usually the the case.

We didn't see Bruce Wayne once either which I only recalled whilst writing this.

Regarding the bold part, its a good point and it helped. The first season had this knack of just pushing people into the show cos... they had to. Which leads me to your first point which I really agree with, the villains motives are there, and he was allowed to grow as a character and show why hes not just generic villain #13

So happy this is back. Just caught up and it didn't disappoint.

As for Gotham staying true to the comic book back-stories I can't speak to that as I'm certainly no expert but I personally find this a great show, extremely well produced.

Same, Young Bruce Wayne irritates me but I still enjoy the show. In fact I think this series has been great so far, been really surprised.
