i mean, that depends on what you think our budget is? If it is, say, £150 million, and we are hoping to recoup, say £50 million through the sales of Maguire, McTominay and Martial (maybe more of them too), then we should be able to get both and a midfielder too. I've seen people expressing relief and admiration that we have pulled out of trying to sign Kane so early, but my concern is that it could be more a sign of us having a tiny budget than any kind of sensible, long term approach to our transfer dealings. Also, everyone in the fecking world knew that Levy would be asking for a ridiculous amount of money, why does it seem to have come as a surprise to us?!

Anyone else think it's odd spurs are reported as bidding for Barnes, Madison and Reyes when they're averaging 70m net spend. Kane money?
Or negotiating to try and bring Kulasevski price down/find alternatives. I don't think they'll sign both Barnes and Maddison. Reyes depends how interested we are, as even in current straits we're likely more flexible on price compared to Spurs. They could also be making enquiries to line up purchases in the event of Madrid coming in and offering them close to 100m for Kane. They've made it stubbornly clear that Kane won't be sold to PL clubs unless it's the kind of price that makes Fernandez look like Brighton's purchase of Caicedo.

If he’s done that calculation, then he’s doing the wrong maths. The question he should be looking at is the value to Spurs of one season of Kane. For example, if that figure is £50m (and that’s a very generous figure I think), then selling for £100m is a no-brainer.

That is one hell of an easy way to look at it. As of now he is an asset who can give you good money if you move him on. Next year he will move for free. Do the maths mate, you stand to lose the asset for nothing.

However, I do nothing with it, thinking it’s better to wait, but technology doesn’t develop the way I expected and in 1 years time it’s worth nothing. Have I lost £100m?
Well the money is a sure thing and you can invest them. A player who might be very ready to go could be bad to keep. But it’s not definite anything. I just know that personally I would sell him.

There was never a move to City. They tried to hijack our deal with an (at the time) eye-watering £35m bid for a player I believe even Levy was only asking £30m and a bit of change for. Levy accepted, but Betba (understandably) didn't want to go to some mid-table side. It did spur (heh) us to up our bid sufficiently for Levy to accept it though.

Kane has given them his best years and may now not win any major trophies, even if he moves on. The PL record goal scorer will be something he rightly covets. Why not accept he's done a good job and let him go for a reasonable market figure.
You could argue that Levy is, in fact, not the mastermind some make him out to be. He's played hardball for years and they've won nothing. He can't attract big managers anymore (with Conte, who's highly strung at the best of times, the only recent exception) and the better players will swerve the club if there are better offers. They're in a worse position now than they have been for years and without Kane they're mid-table fodder.
Your all thinking I accept Levy’s ways, I don’t he has won with us, he has made a fortune of us and Kane, if Kane leaves on a free he still wins. The club is secure in a way that suits him, again ENIC have only invested about £40m of thier own cash in Tottenham the rest is in loans in the clubs name. Yeah we can find someone else in that midfield whereas Kane is easily best striker. Unfortunately though we have ended interest so that idea is academic now
If we can't do more than one big transfer in a summer we might as well call ourselves Luton Town - you'll also see that earlier in this thread, I've said I was presuming we'd been bought by proper owners. And we could find the first £40m by not buying somewhat-ordinary Chelsea midfielders...

My guess is that if we made our interest official, Kane would seek the move. He very clearly wants out and has also never said he want to move abroad. So, again I say: we'll only know if we make a bid. My it seems we are not going to now. so the mods might as well close this thread
