Hating Lingard

I thought I never say this but Lingard is a proper Man Utd player but I don't know what role is he in. Whatever he is doing, he needs to continue and I think he has a role in XI.

A single goal changes the flow of a game. He scores the 1st opportunity and there's no guarantee he gets a second just a few minutes later.

Yes, this is true. The butterfly effect

Any little thing in a game has effects on the outcome of the rest of the game...even the littlest things - like if a player is allowed to play on due to possession versus a foul being called, or a pass to one player versus another.

I’m just happy for lingard. I’d like nothing more to see him become better and better and be of more use to us or another team in the future

dunno how others feel but I think he's been doing really well in the last month or so as he's been the one player who is showing excellent imagination in his running and positioning

feels like defenders have found it hard to pick him up and he's finding the space and time that Lukaku, Martial, Rashford, Ibra and Mata haven't

keep it up Jesse

fair do's to him hes been fantastic this last couple months and lets hope it continues because without his goals lately i would hate to think where we would be at the moment. (never ever thought i would write that for Lingard) he just always seems to be bursting a gut to get in the box which is paying off massively for us right now.

Jesse Lingard of all people must be the only player JM favours and plays when not deserving...think about that for a minute. Mou must hate Shaw (a player he tried to buy for chelsea)..Martial, Miktaryan...blah...blah blah. That's fan logic for you. People just cannot bring themselves to admit (especially when their favorite players aren't played) Mourinho is as fair and ruthless as Managers come. Everybody and I mean everybody has to earn their place. Jesse has something many players lack and that is Cojones.

hehehe. I love that people are swallowing some humble pie right now. I hope they learn as the nonsense would have broken a weaker minded player.

10 goals already this season. Could end up with 20. I'm staying very optimistic and hoping he turns into something very special over the next two years.

SAF on Lingard:

“Jesse Lingard is going to be some player,” said Ferguson when Lingard was still a teenager, shortly before his first loan move away from the club at Leicester.

“He is 19, came through our youth system and is built like Jean Tigana was for France.

“But he never got into the limelight there until he was about 24, and I think that will be the same with Lingard.

“He will become a player when he’s 22 or so. As an attacking midfielder he has got a really good talent. I think he will be a player we have high hopes for, definitely.”

He gets 2 good games in and now he is "exceptional".... :wenger:

So lets start making comparisons to De Bruyne, like we did when Micki was in form. You cant can you? ... the reality is that when Micki is in great form (rarity), there is a "chance" he can be compared to the great's, but Lingards best doesnt even have a chance in the comparison table.

Lingard doesn't have the talent.... he is a work horse and that is all he will ever be. Man Utd will never be a Premier League Champ while he gets the starting #10 spot... simple as that.

Now i do support the young kid because he is giving his all and is making things happen.... which is all we can ask of Lingard. But please stop the nonsense, your making yourselves and our club look bad with this exceptional talent crap!

Think wr should compare this workhorse to de bruyne, Hazzard, Alli etc and see how he comes up against the odds.

Must admit he’s really surprised me this season, still can’t believe he’s 25 though. Feel like he’s still being badged as a youngster. Still not convinced that he’s got a long-term place in Uniteds starting 11 mind you.

When Lingard scores more goals than Hazard and Sanchez, nobody bats an eye lid.

When Martial completes a dribble, everyone loses their minds.

Yes I’m aware Martial scored yesterday too. I’m happy about that. But Jesse is not getting the credit he deserves. He’s arguably our POTS so far.

Pathetic post. Clear agenda against Martial. Why not go over to the Lingard thread and read the pages of praise instead of talking utter bollox.

If he can just improve his patience, form and compusure at OT (Burnley game not withstanding) then Jose may have to make him a regular starter soon.

He's shown away from home, in the last couple of seasons, that he can be lethal and highly dangerous when there's more space to exploit and confident team-mates to play him in.

Less space at OT is still a bit of an issue for him - but there's some serious potential there.

I have to say if he keeps playing like he did yesterday I will have a very large slice of humble pie to eat.
He was first class, even before his goal.

Sure, Lingard is not getting the praise he deserves but your hate of Martial is absolutely pathetic.

They're not swallowing anything. Just moved to another player. Herd mentality.

Our best and most important player so far this season, hands down.
Never thought i'd say that, even though i never was a hater.

His best attributes are his workrate which has always been acknowledged on here, and his movement off the ball which is hard to appreciate on TV but perhaps explains managers seeing somethign in him many of us don't get to witness.

He's certainly done well this season, and scored some important goals, however I still think he's a very limited player. I suspect he's playing at his absolut capacity right now. I don't rate his passing ability much, but it's his inability to beat a man which is his most frustrating trait. I also find it frustrating when he an Martial drift inside despite no overlapping support form the wingbacks, forcing us to play through the middle.

 Grow up, you're starting to look pathetic with your blind hatred of a player that plays for the team you apparently support. I bet you were livid when Martial scored yesterday.

Jesse has something about him! in a squad that lacks mental toughness it’s a nice quality to see in Lingard.

Over the last few seasons I've thought as Lingard as the living embodiment of everything that's currently wrong with our club. Bang average, overpaid, overhyped, obsessed with social media, entitled and not the answer to any of the questions being asked. This season he has proved me wrong and then some.

He's been consistently good and looks as though he can only get better now he's started adding goals to his game. I'm seriously excited about his development, especially with Rashford going through a tough patch at the moment, it's nice to have a home-grown talent looking as devastating as he does at times.

Perhaps something exciting for England fans and the World Cup also. A front four of Kane, Sterling, Lingard and Ali sounds pretty scary.

The thing is lingard's performance thread has moved about 6 pages or so since yesterday's match and they are basically all praise

Martial's? Just 2 or 3 pages in the same amount of time

Don't ask me how I know :nervous:

Hi dribbling has improved so much that it's a joy to watch. That solo goal against watford is a goal of the season contender. If it was scored by KDB, we'd be singing praises and calling him GOAT. Anyway, very happy to see that he's come a long way and added end product to his game.

Exceeding my expectations by far, I must admit. Never thought he had it in him.

I've always thought he had the engine and the skill-just not the heart. He has certainly proved me wrong so far this season. Hating Lingard has been a common theme for a couple of years, and I can remember posting in one such thread about how he lacked confidence (something well documented throughout his break through to the first team). I think Pogba has played a massive part in changing this, along with Rashford and a couple of others. He is more confident playing with players he knows and whom he has an obvious positive relationship with off the field. He struggled when playing with players he had no connection with, and in turn would not make the right runs or movement. So many players went through our first team for less than a season or two at the most in the last couple of years, that our players (not just Lingard) have struggled to bond. The key word is team. We are looking more like a team than a group of individuals now, and this lets him play his game. We still continue to build, and I can now see Lingard being a part of this future.

Admittedly, last year I would have seen him gone quite happily. Really pleased for the player and our club that he is showing his worth.

Never hated him at all but last season in particular was disappointing for him, his output simply wasn't good enough. This season has been a huge improvement.

Really happy for him, and honestly feel he needs to be one of the first names on the team sheet right now. Long may this form continue!
