I can only speak for myself but media is not the primary reason for me. I just can’t stand English players from Liverpool, Arsenal, city etc winning a World Cup or Euros. My only love is with United not with the England team. Ideally, I would love our players to win but unfortunately it would come at the cost of them pricks winning it too and they far outweigh united players in England squad. And whatever few players united have in England setup are not the stars that gets the fanfare, it’s the likes of Kane , Foden, Mount, Grealish etc the media, fans, pundits wank themselves over. Back in the day when England was full of united players I wanted them to win because it almost felt like a united team and the credit would have gone to them if England had won it but these days very few united players feature for England and some of them are not even likeable ones unlike Scholes, Neville etc. So the choice becomes very easy.
The problem is that you can't use the Spanish/Italian media to beat down on hating England with. So they're irrelevant

Against Italy yes, England took the lead and then went defensive and Italy took advantage. Against Croatia it was just that Croatia's quality midfield got hold of the game and never looked back. Anyway, by saying Italy and Croatia just go lucky means you're belittling their victories. England got lucky that Sterling penalty was given in semis for instance, if we'll go by that kind of logic.
