Agree that Shaw is better suited to Walcott but his performance in Turkey was atrocious and I don't think he'll be in a better state of mind after the last few days.
Blind seems to have better games defensively when you least expect it. Against extreme pace or physical players he seems to snuff them out but then have a stinker when his opponent should suit him better.
I'd still have faith in Blind at LB tbh. He's only been poor when the rest of the team have been poor (although he's the first to get called out, oddly).
Kick them up the arse, yes, publicly humiliate them, no. That's basic management principle.
Jose has learned nothing, when he got sacked from Chelsea it's because he pissed the entire squad off and they didn't want to play for him anymore, and he's slowly doing the same here.
Worse than that, he doesn't want to take responsibility himself so he shifts it onto those below him in the chain of command, another bad management trait.

This article perfectly sums up my thoughts on what Mourinho did. This is not overblown, but something that will affect Mourinho and the squad in the future.

It may seem "Harsh," but maybe that is the point; Our players have to want to play for the club and show the right fight and calmness when things go wrong. Losing by a goal is acceptable if you fight and play well, as losing is part of the game. But those performances against Chelsea and Fenerbache, both away, were absolutely spineless and brainless.
Of course if they are injured they will be rested, but that Swansea match was Jose essentially saying after the Fenerbache game; Show some effing fight or there are lads here that I will gladly pick in your place. How much do you want this? If you want the cheque, fine sit and claim and you rarely play again.
I think this is directly linked to Schweini being brought back to train with the 1st team (Even if it might be to sell him on) to show the squad - Look I'm a fookin harsh fecker but if you get angry with me, show me I'm wrong and I'll respect you more.
Oh and some of the posters with their comments berating Mourinho, should be glad they were not born or had an internet forum back when Fergie let rip. I can only imagine the horrors posters would have conjured up as we lost 2-0 with "kids," to Villa, after selling Hughes, Kanchelskis, Ince.
The double standards RE: Klopp Vs Sturridge's Injuries, should be noted too.

Would love to also see Mourinhos Injury records at his clubs. We have had some awful rates of injury, not least the fact that Jones and Smalling have rarely featured fully fit at the same time!

Rotation is vital in the modern era, but you can only do that plus incorporating the Youth, if people are fit. If he's looking into our injury problems then good. Heard my Arsenal mates say that Arsenal's abysmal rate of injuries is due to their training pitch being layered with terrible foundations and this is being seriously looked at.

One way or the other something is definitely rotten at the club and I support Jose in his attempts to rid the club of this attitude. We spend far too much money in wages and fees to be languishing in midtable for the three years and Jose is right not to accept the clusterfeck that the lads served up at Chelsea.
At least Daley Blind is 'fit' enough again to be in the starting line-up in a completely meaningless friendly against Belgium tonight. Not too happy with that of course, since to me it's a clear sign of prioritising the national team over the club you play for. But then again it's a small sin, and he's normally been a model professional while with us, and it's such a weird day anyways so who cares.
And people here complain about the players running to the press.
The difference is that this the club's press outlet, and they're doing it to neaten up the mess created by players going to the press all the time.
And even if it was Mourinho going to the press - so what? He has more power than the players, something people keep forgetting at United these days. If the club backs him, he can do what he likes for the best of the team. Just as it was with Fergie.
The manager at United is in charge. That's what works here, that's our culture as a club.

Sir Alex earned the right to do as he wished no questions asked. It's absolutely daft to say Mourinho should have the same right from the off. We will give him incredible amount of control, we do that with our managers but he's not at a stage where whatever he says/does is taken as gospel.

In any case, times have changed and it's clear Mourinho realises that too which is why you see him always trying room get the experienced big names in the squad on his side. If he goes full mental at the players, especially the big ones, he'll lose his job and we'll be in a mess. He needs to use the power and control he'll get here smartly.
Yes, he even got some credit for at least being willing to be available for the Swansea match on Sunday. But he wasn't 'fit enough' to start for us in a must win game.
Yet he was fit enough to play 90 minutes on the Thursday before, fit enough to fly to Holland on the Monday after to join the national team for training, and he was fit enough to play the full 90 minutes on Wednesday (yesterday) in a meaningless friendly game.
Yeah I agree. In my opinion he seems to be going about it the right way with us.

Before Fergie took over, United hadn't finished outside the top 4 for 5 years.
Mediocrity had taken hold of the club, and removing a culture of 'that'll do', and 'big time' dressing room figures who needed to be weeded out were Fergie's first tasks at getting us back on the winning track - sound familiar? It should.
Isn't that what Mourinho wants though. Someone who will play when not fully fit - “Daley Blind has some problems but he put himself available to be on the bench and to try to help the team, so the people that are here are people that I trust for a difficult match.”
What HL is implying is that, DB can play whole match before and after that match, with full fitness, and the match after is an important match for his country/father, yet he was "not fully fit" for that match. So, was he really "not fully fit" or just wanted to conserve himself?
Where we are as a club now isn't in the same place Fergie took over, I don't see how they compare. I don't think going public was a good idea, it overshadowed the win, but the results will show as the season goes on.
Ferguson was a young manager and a long term "project", he was still growing as a manager. Do you think that Mourinho is a young manager still growing?

It doesn't matter and is also not the point. In order to establish a winning mentality in a team which we sorely lacks and is our biggest problem, a manager needs time to weed out the dead woods first and foremost, especially if those dead woods have a big influence to the rest of the squad and the media. It took Fergie a number of years to slowly stabilize his squad, it may take Jose a good amount of time but what needs to be done, needs to be done.
I agree with you, the problem is that nowadays fans and club owners do not have that required patience. Football is still the same sport, you need time to build big things but people have grown less and less patient
We have a squad full of players who have won stuff. Not our biggest problem.
Winning mentality as in, they want to win stuff for us, for this side. You can almost say those players got complacent from their displays of late.
You do not sign a 35 year old striker or break the transfer record expecting a slow process. Hell you do not hire a manager like Mourinho if that is the plan either. Title challenge has to be the goal this season.
I don't disagree too much but is it also not the responsibility of a manager to instill a mentality into the players at his disposal. Other managers seem to do that. The feeling I'm getting from most comments is that José is absolved of that responsibility and he must have ready made players at any point in time. Surely we cannot expect longevity from a manager that does not focus on improving players, rather disposing players because they are not yet adapting to what he wants after 11 games.
I guess one has to accept that it's the José wat, which one of the reasons I didn't want him despite his reputation.
You still do if you're not stupid and impatient. Leicester is used as example of a team winning a title out of nothing but they're an exception in the history of fooball. In order to win titles, you need to develop a winning mentality throughout the club, from the starters to the bench players. Overpaying for Pogba and welcoming Ibra still do not change that this reality, Man Utd weren't good enough for the title and will find it very hard to finish top 4 this season. Obviously it is my POV and people disagreeing with it is absolutely fine.
We're just trying to shortcut our way to success and it won't work I fear and if it does it won't be sustainable without a long term plan.
2 teams that finished below us last season are currently ahead of us plus a team that finished level on points with us. 2 teams with new managers are ahead of us. And the fact that Leicester are the defending champs means the league is wide open. The season is still early and there is still enough time to make up ground but, there should be high expectations for this season
It just tells you that the task at Man Utd is tougher than at any of those clubs you mentioned if Mourinho is currently struggling like he is and it tells me patience should be required. We're all starting from scratch after all.
