Bah, who removed my mata gif? :(

I tell you what, I look forward to seeing what him, RVP, Rooney and Januzaj can do in a team together.

Mata central every day of the week there, he has shown far more than Kagawa to deserve that spot

Is he really that much better as a real '10' than as a wide player cutting inside (the Silva role let's say)? I've been talking to some people who followed him in his Valencia days and they say he's actually better in the Silva role than the real '10'.

Also, we know that Kagawa really can't play on/from a wide position, while we know that Mata can do both very well.

I don't see why not really. Januzaj is knackered and needs a bit of a break and who better to replace him with? Rooney and RVP might be back too I think. A home game against Cardiff, everyone lifted by him, can't think of a better time to introduce him. Gives him a full 90 minutes and not just 10-15 minutes.
Agreed! Start him and if the lack of match practice shows (i doubt it, he seems a thorough professional to be unfit), maybe sub him off later in the game. Home game too.

Nah he is most certainly better as a number 10, so is Silva to be fair.

I love Mata as a player and he'll be an asset wherever he plays, but he's always best as a number 10 - I've said it a few times in debates here but AVB's biggest mistake at Chelsea was playing a 4-3-3 with Mata on the left wing, the second Matteo joined the club and dropped a midfielder whilst moving to a 4-2-3-1 with Mata in the middle he instantly became twice the player.

There are a few who think there is no drop off out wide, Ekeke for example seems to think that, but its not something I agree with at all. Obviously just my opinion and he'll be great anywhere, but I think if you want a Mata at 100% then its always gotta be central.

Yeah, its not like he's been injured or something. He was just getting sub appearances or the occasional game for them like Kagawa was for us. Not like when Van persie signed and missed the whole pre season so needed a few weeks, the only reason Mata wouldn't start is if he didn't have any training sessions with us and Moyes doesn't want to put him in the team straight away (pretty reasonable).

3 years ago, would you have believed we'd have an attacking line up of Rooney, RVP and Mata.

Honestly, I'd hav thought the only way we'd manage that would be to win the champions league in that time... twice!

Excellent signing. I do think centre mid should be the priority, but it can't hurt to sign a world class player like Mata and I'm shocked at how little Mourinho seemed to value him.

I suppose most will say our attack has been so poor that there's no need to worry about Mata being unfamiliar with our tactical schemes.

They're probably right, besides there will be some adjustment period as he gets used to his new teammates, might as well get it started asap.

There's pretty much no better start a new United player can make, than praise Giggsy. :)

Even if it was a while back.

I wonder if he wasn't going to be allowed to buy without selling, perhaps for FFP reasons. He may have just wanted this Salah kid and was willing to lose a bench player to get him.

To be honest that would probably help him and make us look better judging by the last few weeks

The fee they got for De Bruyne is more than they're paying for Salah though so I think they want someone else?

Please give him the number 7. Mata was born to play for Man Utd. This proves it.
If he's been such a big Giggsy fan, give him the 11 next season and perhaps 8 right now.

Anyway, whatever number he takes, he looked good in a blue shirt but he'll look amazing in our red

I know mate. Would have laughed had someone told me this few days back.

Was winding my Chelsea mate up last week saying you should let us have him, and they've only gone and ruddy well let us have him!

Nah, he said there was no plan for Salah until the sale of Mata came up.
That's brilliant! Sold his best player to us to (probably) take points off Arsenal and City and used that money/squad spot to sign the player Liverpool were so confident of signing themselves
