He's not set the world alight on his debut, but I do think he is playing some amazing balls that would work well on half competent players on the left. His passing and movement off and on the ball is beautiful. I can't wait to see our dream front 4 all together, that will be something special.

Be interested to see his passing stats from the first half, don't recall him giving the ball away once.

We need to of course keep a bit of perspective on our part too. He has had very little game time in the last six months. He will take a match or two to get himself in the groove.

Will take our team a bit of time to getting used to an actual footballer too.

Mata "Everything is going to be fine, with the squad we have and the players that will be coming in the summer, everything will be fine and I think this club will be successful for sure"

Quite interesting comments. It sounds like there is a lot already planned for the summer.

Gents unzip and uncoil tally whackers. This is perhaps the most important quotation of the year. Basically we can infer the following. We can look forward to a Miami Heatesque unveiling this summer because very clearly Mata was informed of imminent signings as part of Moyes effort to sign him.

It is obvious that several individuals have agreed to sign this summer contingent on Mata joining and Mata was contingent on these same individuals agreeing to sign! Mata is in. Kroos is incoming. Who will be the mystery third man?!?!

Is he on a plain, somewhere in Spain headed for a plane?! Does his name rhyme with Bessy? Or maybe Igottagoalscoringitch?

Is it too soon to start the Summer 2014 transfer J-Sesh thread? Can we call it "Boner Jams 2014?"

Decent run-out but I expect we'll see the best of him when he's playing regularly and a little less rusty. Felt for him a bit today, Jones, Giggs and Valencia aren't the ideal supporting cast if you're wanting to play a quick passing game.

Probably a bit too much making him captain in the fantasy team. Thought he was really neat and tidy on the ball today though.

Lets be honest, that was a very forgettable debut. No worries though, we all know his class.

A bit of Exaggeration on the forgettable part. He did well, not excellent, but he helped his new club get a win with some contributions to the goal.

We threw him into our team with very little practice with them, this was surely expected not to be a world class performance. In a couple of weeks he will be firing on all cylinders. Those cross field balls

I've only managed to see the second half and that was in bits so I could be off the mark here. His confidence on the ball was refreshing, and he seemed to be linking up play quicker from what I saw. A few more decent players and we'll be laughing.

Same problem tonight even with Mata. If no one is moving or being available, then there's nothing you can do

You can see he's good, get Rooney and Januzaj next to him too and he'll be flying. Then we'll 4 players in the attacking positions who aren't shit scared to pass the ball forward.

Mata started the game like a house on fire and some of his long passes out to the left touchline were superb. There was one in the lead up to our goal which just carved Cardiff in two and the other one where Young slides for it with his feet too, if Ronnie had still been here that'd have been a bullet diving header.

However, as we slipped back into negative lets go 1-0 up and hold our shape ala Sven's England mode Mata gradually dropped out of the game. To bring the best out of him we'll need to ensure our best attacking talent is at close proximity. Personally I wanna see him used down the right. He's bound to be more effective than Valencia has been for about a year, just by virtue of being able to make quick decisions...

You can tell he's not played much. Top marks for effort. He went wherever the ball went. His touch was a bit heavy at times, and some of his longer passes were intercepted. He looked a bit nervous when pressured, but it's just ace to see him in a United shirt. A reasonable debut. He'll get better. When our front four gels, it's going to take the piss.

The reception he got when subbed, and his reaction, were great. Love him already. Can't wait for the next game. Hope he starts again.

The encouraging signs were that he receives the ball, takes a touch, head up, pass. If we can get more of our players to increase the speed of their play and movement we won't look so zombie-like. He'll also benefit from playing with Januzaj out wide.

Encouraging start. He still claimed a fair few of those holy 'key passes'. STATS!

Juan Mata the 2 season wonder!!

Really though, he has had 17 appearances with 5 of those (I think) being sub appearances. He will also need to get to know the players, I mean I bet he feels abit overwhelmed going from Eden and Oscar to Valencia and Young! Nhaa, he will get better with more game time.

He didn't look remotely nervous to me. You'd think he'd played for us for years. He's a class act, however, as pointed out, our movement needs to drastically improve if we're to get the very best out of him.

He can't do a lot without options. This is Kagawa's problem too to some extent. There were some occasions tonight when he looked as if he was saying to the lads "Come on then, make a run..." and we did our usual thing.

Mata suffered from the same problems Kagawa finds at times when playing with our much-maligned wingers and less-than-convincing central midfield.

I can't wait to see the pair of them play with the likes of Januzaj, Rooney and van Persie. Our attack should markedly improve.

Liked what I saw. Didnt look fazed at all (why would he?), good on the ball, always moving looking for the ball, 1 touch before he passed it. All good signs. What he needs is better movement around him if we're to look a better footballing team. Get him, Rooney, RVP and one of Januzaj/Kagawa/Nani playing and we'l get the best out of them.

Still finding his feet for us, understandably. Will be interesting to see how he develops for us. A bit more movement from our wingers and CM would help him. Runs in behind the defence and all that. Would love to see him Kagawa, Rooney, Nani or Januzaj play together.

Suffered from the same problems Kagawa does and that ppl give Kagawa shit for.

--------- 1 ------------
2 ---- 5 ---- 6 ------ 3
------ 4 --- 8 ---------
7 ------ 10 -------- 11
--------- 9 ------------

That's how a team should line up!
It's time to get rid of shirt numbers completely.

- - - - - -DG - - - - -
RdS - NV - JE - PE -
- - - - - - PJ - - - - -
- - - - MC - DF - - -
- - - -WR - - - JM - -
- - - - - - RvP - - - -

You know it makes sense. Whats the point in numbers in this day and age?

He looked good, great off the ball and class on it. The rest of our team needs to get used to his play though and get him more involved and link up more. We were too slow once again and that's due to the players behind him. Great to see him always moving around looking to get on the ball.

Not sure what people expected. He was neat and tidy, he was always showing for a pass, had a role in each goal and he put a peach of a ball through to Young. Had a decent-ish chance from an Evra pullback too, he's clearly class and he will need time to bed in.

Just like kagawa he isn't the solution but he's part of the solution. If we get januzaj/kagawa/nani in alongside him then he'll play even better.

had a good 1st half. His crossfield deliveries were causing havoc for Cardiff. He did misplace a few passes though. I think he was let down by the lack of movement around him. He's an excellent whenit comes to 1 touch football and 1-2's in and around the box. Can't wait for him Rooney and and RVP to start a game. Quiet debut.

Livescore says he got the assist for Young's goal.

One game, one assist

I think he had the wrong players around him tonight if I'm honest. He was very tidy and all, but a lot of his runs went unnoticed and he found himself at times occupying the CM position through looking for the ball.

I can't wait until Mata, Rooney, RvP and Januzaj all start together! I think then we will see the best of him. Jones, Young and Valencia tonight just didn't compliment his game at all IMO.
