Posters are trying to have their cake and eat it over this, Either Jose is a miracle worker by holding off the all powerful Klopp with a poorer squad or he assembled a squad thats better than Liverpools which is proof that he is taking us in the right direction.
If anything there should be even more pressure on Klopp. He should be fighting for the title now. If not, it will be a massive failure.

Klopp will have spent a lot more on transfers than Jose has if you buy Fekir and Allison with the net spend being something like 80m (?) and going by this thread, 80m is nothing in the market these days.

You're already counting signings that haven't even taken place while disregarding any United interest in players or should I include Alex Sandro for £80m in your transfers as well? Keita, Fabinho and possibly Alisson would be bought for the amount we sold Coutinho for, so I don't really see the problem at all.
A season should be assessed as a whole, not based on whether we will finish above or below United. In theory, we should be challenging for the title yes, but if City is anywhere as close to how they were last year domestically, that won't happen. I'll happily finish 3th after Mourinho if it means we win a cup though, as 2nd or 3th doesn't make a difference to me if you're not challenging for the title anyway.
People saying that Klopp should be sacked if we don't win something this season are downright crazy. He's made sure our squad has undergone a total transformation in less than 3 years. Ask any football fan in Milan how difficult that is and we should be lauding Klopp for what he's done at our club so far instead of calling for his sacking if we don't win a trophy.
I think you are misinterpreting his comments. I'll post them again for the sake of clarity:

He says, quite clearly, he would limit the clubs transfer expenditure regardless of the size of his war chest. His intention here is to go with the "it's not the size that counts, but how you use it" philosophy. But that proved not to be the case after he went on a spending spree - breaking transfer records in the process - making him a hypocrite and/or a liar.
He didn't say that directly, the above is simply my interpretation of the meaning behind his statement.

Fair play to Mourinho if he wins the league with your current squad, no doubt about that. However if he doesn't he should also deserve criticism for not addressing the (obvious) weaknesses present.
Or maybe other clubs were proactive and made signings before inflation and that's what Jose said after the signing.
Anyways Liverpool fans hiding behind "inflated market" is hilarious, considering other defenders were also signed in that season and VVD cost 50% more than record transfers. Ederson was signed for 34 million last season and Alisson will cost 100% more than that.
I'm not sure why the inflated market is being used as a justification when Klopp has said that even if he could spend money, he would do it differently.

There's more pressure with more money spent, that's a given. And surely, we should be closer to the Manchesters, but spending spree? Has Klopp spent more than you and City?
Anyways.. don't forget, that City ran with it, and you ended comfortably 2nd, so it would be massive progress to overtake you, let alone City. We ended 4th, so i would say 3rd is good progress.

I don't get posts like these. We've been much better than we have been since Ferguson retired including 2 trophies and our best league and points finishes. Jose has indisputably moved us forward.

Buffon went for €52m. Alisson reportedly will join us for €75 all add-ons included, so the fee will probably below €70m. That's not even close to double.

It is a huge amount over the record signing who happens to be a generational talent. I read it was over double but they referred to Premier League signing for a keeper.
And my point about Sandro stands. No point in talking about a made up fee for him until we are at least reasonably close to signing him, which currently we are not (nowhere close).

Klopp never had a moral card. He's a terrible sport and blames the pitch, referees, tactical noncomformity etc. when losing. He has also proven himself to be hypocritical. That doesn't make him a bad manager or person and it doesn't mean Liverpool supporters shouldn't love him to bits. But it means that United supporters can give him a hard time on a United forum!
Mate I also spend time in Manchester and stay there with family often. I walk to the grounds and mingle with the local support at pubs after matches.

Looking at them from an objective viewpoint, I think it is fair to say that United and Liverpool are comparatively even in terms of their very best first 11, but United have the better of the two squads overall. This is, of course, very much subject to change given the relatively untouched war chest Jose has available to him - which I am absolutely positive he will make use of before the current transfer window closes.
I would be slightly concerned should Jose choose not make further additions to the squad, but not to the point of believing this Liverpool side capable of overtaking us in the league. In the modern game, squad-size counts for everything and United are ahead in this department. Just my opinion.

I'd agree with that. We can roughly match your best 11, but not having enough quality in the squad hampered us last season when the inevitable injuries came, and we had to rely on the likes of Solanke, Ings, Klavan, etc.

I thought the Coutinho deal was ~£110m upfront with the rest being performance related bonuses? 75 (VVD) + 66 (Alisson) = more than 110m last time I checked.
Plus you've spent over £40m and £50m (& rising) each for Fabinho & Keita respectively, IIRC? Then Mo Salah was somewhere between £35-40m which is upwards of £120m for those 3 alone.
That's still a hell a lot of money spent, if that was Mourinho, the scrutiny would be intense.
£66m for Alisson is all add-ons included. Keita ended up £53m and will not rise anymore. Salah was £34m which is an absolute steal no matter how you look at it, same for Mane which was a similar amount.
