Juventus - Real Madrid (CL Final)

Mandzukic goals won't happen if Madrid has a taller top GK.

DDG, Oblak, Cortois will save that. The ball was not heading to the corner of the net. And Navas only few inches misses the save.

No matter how good Navas is, no matter how flexible he is, the height factor for the GK is an advantage.

Wait for second half, Juve will play aerial football more. And note it, Mandzukic is higher than Ramos.

Oblak is actually only 1cm taller than Navas. I agree though. There's a limit to making up the height disadvantage. Yann Sommer is another good example for a good goalie who also suffers from being relatively short.

The Mandzukic goal reminded my of Neuville's shot over Barthez. It doesn't go in if we have a taller keeper.

They have been amazing with the ball, playing it out from the back and been so confident on the ball. I didn't realise they were this good.

We are so far away from this it's not even funny.
They don't even need to spend hundreds of millions every summer also.

Don't think DDG is a giant either.

That 1cm can make a huge difference though. Just ask my girlfriend.

The thing with this surprising overhead executions is that the keeper doesn't expect it. So on top of the actual shot, the keeper wastes some important moments figuring out what the hell is going on. Those moments Navas wasted before making the jump were vital. Not his fault at all imo.

That's the beauty of a true moment of magical play, often the keeper isn't expecting it so doesn't have time to adjust well. Happens with shots from completely unexpected angles, distances as well in my opinion.

Should've stood still rather. Everyone would've thought that it was an unsaveable effort and no one would question your height or choice hand or whatever
Kidding

One cm less and you wouldn't be here mate.

Ospina as well

I think he's crap, and just to prove it's not a bias on my part I reluctantly think Carra is great on Sky.
Far enough, I could've guessed he's not the guy with the best tactical insights ever anyway.

Nothing that's the problem. He's our FA president and all he does is fly around giving his shirt while our football is in ruins.

I know this situation. It's the same in my country except the football is on a level or 50 below

I guess he got the assist, but other than that has Higuain touched the ball in the last 40 minutes?

That might be true when it represents a 33% increase, as in your case, but not so true when it comes to a minute fractional difference in height.

Phenomenal tackle by Barzagli. Shades of the one Fletcher got sent off for in 2009.

BT Sport discussing Mandzukic's goal and the passes not touching the ground in the build up.

McManananamanaman: "yeah it was a bit like Subbuteo".

Subuteo being that game famous for the ball not touching the fecking ground...

Yeah but a taller goalkeeper has a longer reach which does make a difference. Navas not to blame for his supurb effort.
