Keano: The league's been over for 2 months

Keane Dogs and Irish Guide Dogs :: April 28 2011 video by reddevilworshipper - Photobucket

Some decent words from Keano, fancies Barca mind. Do you agree with him?

I refuse to read it; Keane lost me when he refused to allow Fergie to make a speech at his testimonial.
I said this at the time and everyone said 'he's a United legend, you can't say that' but let's get it right, he's been an absolute knob since he left United and in all honesty a knob when he was with us (but back then at least he was 'our' knob)...

Its always a bit nervy watching Keano interviewed. You never know when he might lose it.

He's a legend, I wish he could return as a coach at some point although I doubt he would accept it.

There was apparently an interview (I've not seen it) which my mate told me about, now he's a City fan but he said it brilliant.
After being appointed as manager of Ipswich, the interviewer asked what his wife Theresa thought of the move to Suffolk. Apparently Keane looked bemused for a few seconds and replied 'she wasn't consulted, she was TOLD we're moving to Ipswich'.
It might be amusing but it just proves what a bully and muppet he must be like to live with.

It was on the late late show and he was taking the piss. Get to feck with the Keane hatred.

As a player yes, but he's been distinctly underwhelming as a manager.

great player, but he has been a total prick since leaving the club. He totally disrespected SAF, as said above he lost my respect then.

Really, that happened?

Really, that happened?

Fergie went to make an obligatory speech, no doubt having written it maybe putting some sincere effort toward it, and Keane merely stopped him as he stepped to the mic.
This happened mate, trust me. You might say Keane was being humble and not wanting praise but for me he was publicly slapping Fergie in the face in an effort to get one over his dismissal.

No, I shan't because he disrespected Ferguson in his testimonial.
Great player with lots of fond memories but I can't deny the truth which is he's an absolute horrible person...

Dont be a total idiot. You have heard probably one warped version of what happened and your stating it as fact. Do you hate Rooney for good also for disrespecting Fergie too or is he your number 1 poster boy again for scoring in big games recently?. Learn to be less fickle and stop believing everything you read in the tabloids when they twist stories concerning past Utd legends.

Agreed. There was a discussion on here last year at some point about how he might not be a complete cnut, and that's just how he comes across in football, but if that's all he's ever come across as and deliberately tried to be, then that's how he should be viewed.

There's no doubt that we'd consider him every bit as detestable as any other footballer had he played elsewhere. He's tried to build a build a particular reputation throughout his career, got carried away with it, and just ended up looking a bellend.

Never mind Rooney, Johnno is Carlos tevez' biggest fan. For some reason it didn't bother him at all when it was Tevez that disrespected Fergie. Go figure.

Could you please explain what really happened?

Decent interview by Keano, seems to have mellowed a little bit. I think Jonno is taking it a bit personally but Keane hasnt always really endeared himself to United or Irish supporters in recent times and I dont hold him in the same high reguard as I did when we played for us but respect is due for his accomplishments and he is a United legend!

You don't know him as a person. It is not the "truth" because you simply don't know. I would never class a footballer an "absolute horrible person", least of all someone I didn't even know. I would also neither call a footballer a "great person and human being", especially someone I didn't know even if it was someone like Giggs or Scholes because frankly, I don't know anything about them as human beings or people despite what the media chooses to show us.

It is always a shame when people make football, and everything around football, into some sort of drama where there are pantomime villains and heroes. It's a sport and you don't personally know any of these people so you are in no position to talk.

"If any player ever ask me – and one or two have – to ever have a chance to sign with Man United, do it. You won’t regret it."

"I loved it. I was there for 12 and a half years and I loved every minute of every day playing for that club – every minute of every day…"
For people to judge him because he didn't want SAF speaking at his testimonial, this is the guy who said he played "alright" against Juventus. I would almost guarantee it's because he didn't want a fuss made. When the same poster(s) having a go at him for disrespecting SAF are the ones championing Carlos Tévez, who actually did do, and then some, is faintly ridiculous.

A United legend, one of the best midfielders I've ever seen, and a gentleman every time I've had his company. Haters can fecking do one.

He's been a right prick at times since leaving. But I will never forget what he did for this club in his playing career, he was an inspirational captain and a superb midfielder. Keano will forever be a legend, come what may.

Let's not pretend he's anything other than a knob

I still look back on his playing days with fondness, great captain, but a really unlikable man, that's my impression anyway. Rent a gob too

Uncomparable Pogue: Keane dissed him in front of 70,000 fans and forever on film whereas Tevez aired concerns about not playing in a "quoted" interview.
Maybe Tevez does go around disrespecting Fergie but Keane's was bang on captured on film.

Headbutting a woman, arrested a few other times for assault, turning your back on your country at a World Cup over a petty dispute, intentionally injuring another player for retribution etc etc...??!

That quote is one I'd prefer to remember him by...not the post Utd career stuff.

I think he could make a good pundit in the future just don't see the management ever taking off for him...he doesn't embrace the job or even seem to like it

Have him over for tea and crumpets often do you?
How old are you Feekeh, 22 at the most? I've been round him at The Cliff dozens of times between 1993-99 and he never signed autographs, was an ignorant twat and dismissive.
Great player he was, knobhead he is...

He's a class act who made mistakes but obviously he had standards and that's ok. He wanted to win competitions with the Republic and that would drive anyone crazy - the quarters is ok...whatever. I don't think Keane was happy with that. He might not have a sense of humor but I think his dedication to football, changed him to the point he comes across to serious. He's still a United legend and there's obvious disappointment in his career like the injuries, playing for an unambitious Republic and missing out in Europe - which I think was probably the biggy because we were so close. I know for a fact, if Keane had of played against Munich, we'd have played an awful lot better and obviously the end of his united career was a suprise to a lot of people and that was disappointing even though he got to play for celtic a club he supported

What he does off the pitch is whatever, but i'd rather he do his talking on the pitch. He probably just wanted to get home and be with his family

Class act as a player, not so sure you'd say some of the other baggage is class. He's a complex character, no analysis of Keane should discount the good or the bad but we can't really judge him

you can say that about most genius and for me he was as a player. Zidane, Scholes..there are exceptions. All we can go on is what he did for United and i've no complaints. I mean, he didn't headbutt someone in the chest in the world cup final for example but obviously he did questionable things - so did Cantona...Very few angels when your that good. Giggs is a shining light in that respect.

18. I'm from his hometown, I've met him plenty of times, and every time I've seen him after a match he had no problem in signing autographs.

He brought his Sunderland and Ipswich teams over to Cork when the local team was struggling and made them waive their match fees, and sent both of the out to sign autographs for the crowd after the game, as well as waiting for around an hour each time signing autographs and posing for pictures. He is known in local circles for his charity work, though he tries to keep most of it quiet, as I've said before he doesn't like a fuss made, hence his likely unwillingness to want to be lauded by SAF at his testimonial.

Often he will show up at a hospital of a young kid who he's heard is a United fan and will avoid the press in doing so. My editor at the Evening Echo told me once that he'd been left in many a hospital car park cursing as he was an hour too late.
