La Liga 2013-2014

I've not seen Granada for months, apart from the highlights against Elche - and I've been watching Wigan-Arsenal tonight. Granada's recent results have been pretty awful though.

So tell me. What's happening tonight?!

I know Barca are short of defenders which could explain the 1 bit of the scoreline, but what about the 0?

Alex Song really is a clown. Another game where a mistake of his has led to a goal.

The Barcelona line-up was really poor tonight but they only have themselves to blame for such poor transfer planning. Pretty sure Martino is done no matter what happens until the end of the season, he's just not a good fit - why is he so insistent on getting this team to focus on crossing? [Insert Moyes comment here...]

Puyol, Pique, Bartra, Valdes injured.

I guess Song and Alves were tired/injured after Atletico - and they'll need them both on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey Final.

I can understand the defensive problems, it's the attack I'm puzzled by.

When you think of it Barca have made some awful signings in the last few years. Wasting money on Mascherano and Song when they could have signed a top centre half to replace Puyol, Alba was a good signing but he wants to get forward like Alves and leaves them stuck at the back whilst Abidal provided better defensive cover. Resigning Fabregas and subsequently losing Thiago makes no sense especially when they haven't found a definitive place for Fabregas in the side. All that along with the stupid amount they spent on Ibrahimovic.

I'd be trying to sign a striker, play Fabregas number 10 with Messi and Neymar on either flank and Iniesta and Busquets deeper. They obviously need a centre half, keeper and a right back that can defend allowing Alba more freedom to attack without losing all defensive strength. Messi should be able to find more space starting from a wide position too but they'd need him to stop being lazy or stop the tactic of him not having to do much work in game.

I know the injury problems, I feel that their poor transfers over the past few seasons have left them too easily exposed to an injury crisis though, especially at centre back. Song, Busquets and Adriano have all been used there despite proving themselves incapable of filling in. (even Mascherano to a lesser extent)

Assume you meant to say Xavi instead of Song? It's fair enough to rest them I think too, Montoya's been decent today anyway.

Amen!

Yeah brilliant keeping there.

Sergio Ramos is out injured of the Real Madrid game tonight - possibly a doubt for the final?

Actually I meant Alves
- but it's true of Xavi as well

Madrid say he's OK for the final, but Varane's a top class replacement.
I think he has looked shaky this year. He still probably isn't over his injury. Should be better than ramos though who has been up and down in 2014

Think Martino has been far too slow to make a (non-enforced) change tonight, probably a criticism you could raise all season really.

Edit: As I say that, he makes a change...

He's not really played that much since he came back from the injury/re-injury. He just looks like someone who lacks match fitness to me. Tonight ought to be the kind of game where he can build that.

Famous last words...

Bloody hell.. Atletico could realistically do the league/CL double. Would be amazing

Either alone would be incredible. Heck, the fact that they're in a position to win the league in itself is quite the achievement.

This reminds me of a certain Friedel in goal for Blackburn and United firing shots all over the place only to be saved by the keeper, cleared by the defense, or shot wide/over.

Aren't Atl ahead of Madrid on head-head?
So they need to win 5 of their last 6 to guarantee the title.. Strong position

It's not like they haven't had an abundance of chances, can't believe not 1 has gone in still. Granada holding on nicely. The press are going to batter Martino if they lose now!

Seriously, has Neymar stepped in once this season making difference for Barca(except against Celtic)?

A very hard run in though, games like away to Levante are a serious struggle, combined with Champions League.
