La Liga 2013-2014

Valdés with two great saves from close range.. what an insane save that 2nd one

Messi out? It's not really been his season so far, hasn't it?

Scandalous tackle on him though, caught him fully on the thigh not even close to the ball, but because Messi just kept going the ref didn't give anything.

I think he has done enough to warrant a rest to be honest. He has helped out his team so much in the past, it is up to the others now to do their bit. In all honesty, I would prefer to see Messi take a few months out rather than risk a probable serious injury, if he hasn't got one already.

Edit:

I am guessing that he has some sort of dead leg.

Oof, Neymar misses what should be a sitter. Can't get power or direction in his header.

This game could've been 2-0 or 3-0 to Betis already, if not for some excellent saves from Valdés.

A good day of football so far. Betis showing up as expected. Villarreal did well without dos Santos in the team.

Messi being subbed off seems to have given Betis an extra kick.

And suddenly Betis go suicidal... Pedro 2-0, good finish but where the hell was the Betis defence

La Liga defences, what can you say.

To be fair, their pushing up the pitch did earn them a couple of excellent chances to score early on in the game, which would've put them ahead if they'd been more clinical or Valdés wasn't having one of his best seasons ever so far.

Villarreal 4th in the league? That's a great season so far.

Who are the best players for them this year?

Gio dos Santos was in red hot form in the first few months (he's their leading scorer on 6 goals), but IMO it's been Cani, Bruno Soriano and Pina taking the team on their back through their dominance of the midfield together (and Cani the one making the most final balls into the forwards). Aquino has looked pacey and tricky everytime I've seen him even though most Mexico fans don't seem to rate him much for their NT.

Valdés, Bartra and Song clearly the best Barça players in this game. Neymar has done next to nothing, even with all that space to break into. Juan Carlos the stand-out so far for Betis, work rate, dribbling, had a good effort on target; Verdú running the game for Betis, Molina always threatening... Far from over, although I'd wager Barça putting it to bed late with another goal from a counter-attack.

Betis defenders once again running away from their own goal... there were like 5 Barça players alone in front of Sará there  what a farce

Thanks. I remember Bruno was linked with many big clubs when Villarreal went down in 2012.

Valdés determined to keep that clean sheet... nothing's going Betis their way tonight
