Labour MP Jo Cox shot | RIP Jo Cox

I don't think I read this on any news sites, but I have read somewhere that the man who heard the killer shout "Britain First" was Muslim. Unless being Muslim affects your hearing, it's an example of somebody's religion being irrelevant to the case at hand.

Because religion was also not a motivation for the crimes of the orlando gunman but for a week all the talk was about how islam breeds idiots like him. .

Regardless of his state of mind at the time, which we don't know, you think the clash between his sexuality and his religion had nothing to do with making him susceptible to toxic ideology?

Anyway, as I hinted at before, this line of thought isn't relevant here.

Then it is the secular political ideology that ought to be referred to, because I don't think there is any suggestion that this is related to religious politics. Mentioning his religion would be a complete waste of time.

Aren't a lot of his crowd anti-muslim pro-christians?

@MJJ - why don't you start a thread about this anti-muslim bias you sense instead of bringing your agenda into every thread where a crazy person shoots someone?

@rednev - can you contribute something beyond 'it's cuz they's is Muslim's, guv'nor', please.

Failing that I'm going to start with threadbans for posters who continue to veer wildly off topic. FFS a serving MP was assassinated and no reports mentioned religion at all.

Have I done it in another thread other than this one? Honestly dont remember, and I did stop posting after you made that post asking to keep the discussion focused.

As for why not, I would create a thread but it is going to turn into a bashing of Islam like almost every thread remotely related to religion does.

I wouldn't make it up.

Fair enough but it seems important to you hence my suggestion.

You have my thanks for heeding the earlier request.

I hadn't even posted in this thread until a poster mentioned my name in a slur against me while referencing religion.

Great woman, wonderful MP, devastating loss. One of those people you were proud to have representing your party, a full-voiced rebuttal to accusations that MPs are only in it for power or themselves. A lot of them really just want to help people. For her to be murdered for this is as chilling as it is desperately sad.

RIP :(

Let's keep the discussion focused on Jo Cox, please. Everyone already knows about rednev's views.
Thank you.

Somebody is assassinated for either political or religious reasons. That's quite literally the definition of assassinate.

I would think killed or murdered would make more sense.

Someone's story doesn't make any sense when he said the guy was arguing/fighting with another man and then she tried to stop them and he shot her and stabbed her, looks like a hate crime and she was the target in my opinion.

She has seemingly been killed for political reasons.

I'd call it stereotyping myself, which could be considered deliciously ironic. Nevertheless, I am a fair judge and don't call out posters flippantly; my request was that we don't take this one off topic and I reserve the right to consider posting history when commenting as such.

Well, my posting in this thread has been nothing more than an attempt to argue that there is no reason to believe there is any religious relevance to this. I.e. I have tried to steer this thread back towards a more useful discussion.

Then I am sure you can appreciate how engaging the off topic posts can contribute to taking things off topic despite your valiant efforts to keep things focused on the tragedy at hand.

That I am still having to deal with off topic content through this discussion is aggravating. You've received minimal sanction here. Let it go.

Some news outlets have been far too hasty with the nationalistic angle. The murder could just as easily have be motivated by a domestic issue like welfare or mental health provision. Or may not have even been targeted at Jo Cox in the first place.

The British and European media seem to have invested in the 'pro-Brexit' angle, despite there being no evidence of this. Shameful journalism, especially as it is coming from some of the same people who would absolutely pillar anyone who attempted to exploit the this tragedy to make a political point in favour of Brexit.

Well now its emerged the eye witness did not hear him say Britain First, we don't even know if its motivated by politics.

I linked a few pages back that there were links he had mental health issues.

But this has also come out since

A Labour MP who tweeted claiming the Killer shouted 'Britain first' has now deleted her tweet. Sickening that the remain campaign are already trying to point score off this woman's death. At least get the facts straight and witness accounts before claiming there was a political motive for the attack.

RIP Jo Cox

Possibly... Though when you consider Syrian refugees is probably the issue she is best known for then it's logical to at least give serious consideration to that playing a part potentially

Pro Brexit angle? Don't you mean anti-brexit? Or do you mean they are implying it was some sort of attack from a Brexiteers or a remain supporting politician?
