Must admit I wanted England to go out, but then they played so well in the first half I started rooting for them a little. They were good all round, solid in defence with Stones and Maguire and the rest. Only player who didn't look good was Henderson and Rashford. I really don't blame teams at all for what happens in extra time, there's no amount of training and experience that can prepare you for that shit. Oh and they lost Trippier. Fantastic performance from the lads, can't laugh at them to be honest

It's a weird one. I expected Croatia to win and felt England have overachieved in reaching the semis, but at the same time I didn't expect England to play that well in the first half only for them to completely bottle it in the second.

Fair point. But they are underdogs in the sense that they are less experienced and less fancied than many England teams of the past.

There’s hundreds, if not thousands, of English United who are at home laughing tonight. Plenty remember the Wembley crowds BOOING United players when wearing the England shirt simply for being Manchester United footballers. There’s banners reading ‘UNITED > ENGLAND’ which travel to every United away game and chants like ‘World Champions twice, Once more than England...’ for a very good reason.

Incidentally, Scousers are very like this, too. I doubt too many English Liverpool fans are crying into their tea tonight either.

The Prem is not some plastic league with franchise clubs like the NFL or the NBA. The clubs are engrained in their respective cities, counties and societies.

Premier league fans do not have to support the England national side but there's no need to laugh when England lose.

Playing three at the back with three centre backs mwans you have a centre back covering as a full back when your wing back is exposed. How many times did they attack from the left and Walker cover? And how frail did Young look without someone similarly behind him
