don't forget, our midfield was unrecognisable last time - whereas it is fully established now.

I'm hoping for a lot of possession by us and that'll probably lead us to breaking them down with frustration.

Add to this that we have a great defence and with Scholes and Carrick spraying the ball around 4-4-2 wins every time for me.
DA2 said:The prob is that a lot of people misinterpret what 4-5-1 is for MUFC - it is actually 4-2-3-1 (and before Plech chimes up there is a difference) - and as long as its done properly there is no problem ie) Roon and Ron being used as inside forwards when we're in posession in their half or when the play is in and around the opponents box and used as wingers when were not in posession (so as to bolster midfield) or needing to to break out quickly from our penalty box on the counter. Giggs is played behind Larsson as he easily capable of floating anywhere at all in the opponents last third but also dropping back into CM if necessary to help out as he is one one the most underrated tacklers in the game.
Lot 49 said:I agree we need a natural defensive midfielder which is why I've been saying we should buy one for the last two years or so. However we haven't got one and just playing extra bodies in midfield doesn't compensate for that at all imo. I also don't know what you mean about 4-2-3-1, I've never seen us play like that. It's always a 4-5-1 with our striker being incredibly isolated from the rest of the team and inviting the opposition onto us![]()

Would shut alot of people up, regarding his lack of goals in the Champions league.
R_Devil said:We must not underestimate them. That was our fault last time. They are a small club but that doesn't mean shite. They got a win away at Milan, even though Milan were not playing their strongest side it's not easy to get a result there.
Lot 49 said:I remember those matches your talking about and they were 4-5-1. I don't understand how you can watch our recent European away matches and say we haven't been playing 5 in midfield... it's like someone telling me they don't think the sky looks blue.
Lot 49 said:I don't want to be rude but you don't seem to know what your talking about. It's one thing to think that United don't play 4-5-1 (your wrong but whatever) but now your claiming that all these other teams play this 4-2-3-1 formation is just bizarre. I watched just about all of Real Madrid's matches when they were the top team in Europe and it's a fact they didn't play one up front. It was usually Raul and Morientes with occasionally a third striker like Anelka or whoever in a 4-3-3. This was when they were dominating Europe. If you think they played one upfront you either didn’t watch them play or, and this seems more likely, you’ve got it into your head that all teams play this weird 4-2-3-1 of yours and no-one can possibly achieve success with anything else.
Again I don't want to be rude but your posts don't seem to be making any sense.
Lot 49 said:Jesus christ. I'm sorry but your just utterly clueless.
Real Madrid won three European cups using a predominantly Raul-Morientes strike force. Three European cups you understand? Then they brought Ronaldo, switched to the formation your advocating and haven’t won it since. These are facts. I'm not giving my opinion on what happened, this is what did happen.
3 European cups with multiple strikers versus 0 European Cups with one and yet you think the one strikeforce team was Real Madrid at their peak. No wonder you think United will do better with one upfront, your barking mad.
End of discussion.
