Liverpool v Manchester United

Interested to hear the RAWKites take on Suarez adopting Anderson's free-kick tactic, considering their stance when Ando did it!

shit display again at anfield, got out-fought again ,, but I take a point.

What Giggs did today was as poor as what Fletcher did for the free kick at OT last year.

Bearing in mind we have players who have played Internationals and have to play again on Tuesday and then a big big game coming up also, SAF did the right thing. A win at Anfield was always unlikely so he went for the point and got it. And a lot of our big players are still quite fresh.

What's with the negativity on here?!?

i disagree. i think the team that was chosen fought as best they could. substitutions made the difference.

Just look at how many second balls we lost.

We kept needing that extra touch before we passed it on and inevitably lose it through being nicked off the ball or Pool payers have got back to check the intended receivers. Or else the ball is too high or too behind or too far forward to have a one touch control and play on. Or too often the players are going it alone. Or taking too long and taking too many chances in possession on our own defence. In defence, they try to be too clever and confident on the ball without the technique and other players too dazed to help out. IMO, in part the tactic confused the players or the players wasn't able to grasp it. And the transition from defence to attack is now back to the painfully slow approach of last season as compared to the first few games of this season.

You got to admit, this is carrying on the same way we've been playing in the last few games. It isn't just Anfield today.

What happened to the team and tactics we employed in the first few games od the season?

that is 4 straight points we dropped from 2 away games, i don't think we can be too happy with that. man city at home and everton away now is a must-win for us. we need to get our winning streak back.

If you're the manager of Barca and you was playing a big match, do you put Messi, Zavi, iniesta on the bench for most of the match?

Yeah, no room in the team for him with Xavi there. ;)

Anyway, good result today. We've now picked up six points more than we had at the same stage last season, and one point more than we got in the same fixtures last year. Its all good!

Good post, totally agree.

I called a draw and both teams deserved no more, just disappointed with their goal though. fecking frustrating as hell match, but it always is.

Said I'd be happy with a draw here and a win next Sunday and I'm fully confident at home as usual, so it's all good.

A loss would have been horrible.

Couldn't they be rested on Tuesday instead of arguably our biggest game of the season?

Really feel we should have had atleast one of Rooney Nani or Hernandez on.

I understand our defensive take on the game, had we been a lot more attacking we might have lost but it's usually those kind of tactics which make a better game and I reckon we would have scored more than one.

Liverpool weren't exactly great.

I definitely feel defensive solidarity was playing heavily on SAF's mind. Especially with some of our recent displays. I think we can build on this and we'll become better off for it I think

I personally would have started Rooney today in spite of his antics playing for England.

It's nice to come away with a point from the match, but, I think we have a far better squad than Liverpool, who've built a squad that's better suited as an acting troupe.

Fletcher was the only player with a decent passing %, he completed 55 of 61 passes, at 90%. More passes and completions any other United player, I believe.

Fletcher - 55 of 61, 90%
Jones - 18 of 22, 82% [off 77 min]
Evans - 21 of 26, 81%
Giggs - 36 of 47, 77%
Evra - 35 of 49, 71%
Rio - 20 of 28, 71%
Park - 7 of 10, 70% [off 69 min]
Young - 15 of 23, 65% [off 69 min]
Smalling - 27 of 43, 63%
Welbeck - 18 of 29, 62%
De Gea - 11 of 35, 31%

Rooney - 12 of 13, 92%
Chich - 4 of 5, 80%
Nani - 4 of 6, 67%

Only 7 completed passes and 10 attempted by Park in 70 minutes?! Bizarre. And Jones has only 18 as well, can't be a good thing for a midfielder.

Liverpool were pretty poor, but United were fortunate to get a point. Says it all about the quality of the match.

Perhaps we should've made changes at HT because Liverpool were there for the taking. Strange game, though...not a typical United-Pool match. Liverpool look distinctly average based on what I've seen of them this season.

the amount of times they passed the ball out of bounds i cant even count on my own hands! they werent that great themselves.

After 2 European draws, SAF considers this European game to be a must win to get us back on target for 10 points minimum. Today was never a must win game in truth, just bragging rights.

We've played Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool and are 2nd, still unbeaten. We need to make sure we focus on Europe and get the points we need to still be in the CL come February.

Can some explain to me - and apologies if this has been discussed - what happened with Evra and Andre Mariner right before kick-off?

finally someone who understands the team selection today.

absolutely no complaints with the team given our recent and current fixtures. I predicted a draw and would've taken it too. Dropped pts at Stoke and here is no disgrace. Can't remember the last time we competed as well as that at their's. That's not saying much with recent years in mind and we weren't brilliant by any stretch but Fergie desperately needed to shore up that midfield. Can anyone remember our last decent showing there? Even our run of 0-1s there weren't great performances and we got out of jail a bit.

but we should win every game.

I can't wait for the reverse fixture at Old Trafford. No doubt we won't play so conservatively, probably a 4-4-2, and we'll absolutely do them.

Good point about previous 0-1s being smash and grab. It's ages since we went to Anfield and dominated. Yesterday was an improvement on the last two seasons but continued the theme of being a really really tough game for us. No matter how shite they are for the rest of the season they always give us a hard time at Anfield.
