Liverpool Vs Manchester United

It'd be pretty surprising if he made it a three card trick against Torres, given that he was sent off last season for fouls on Gerrard and Alonso.

I don't think Gerrard will play, he hasn't even trained as far as I'm aware. Torres on the otherhand has trained so I reckon he will start but surely won't be 100%. Just stick close to him and rattle him a bit, normally if that happens then he starts yapping. If that happens then his concentration is more headed towards running his mouth rather than playing the game. I can't even begin to predict a team as there's obviously injury doubts.

I disagree, if Fletcher is out as long as we play the right combination in midfield we'll be fine.

Fletcher is essential. Watch the two matches last season against them when they won the midfield battle. We were without Fletcher in both. None of the midfielders can offer exactly what he does.

Pictures of Torres training from yesterday on Getty, so it's safe to assume he'll play I think

Johnson too...

On another note, why does it seem our players are having a great laugh in training pics, and on Liverpools they look miserable as fook. Suppose 4 in a row might explain it.

I'm not sure what team I'm hoping for in this match. The defense makes itself, but the midfield is more complicated. Certainly Fletcher. Giggs. Not Scholes, I think. Ando? Valencia, after his goal.

Fletcher and Giggs are dead certs imo. I'd like them to be joined by Valencia and Anderson but i think it will be Carrick and Anderson the midfield will be similar to how we played against Spurs.

Fergie said he took Scholes off in Moscow in order to give him a rest. Bit strange that, maybe he's starting this one.

Because, Sky start their coverage at 1pm that normally means the game kicks off at 13:30 - so that was my first piece of confusion and another one was if it was at 14:00, would that mean 13:00 or 15:00 with the current time... etc etc

Well, it's cleared up now - sort of. ;)

I'm actually not too bothered if Rooney is missing as I can't ever recall him playing particularly well against Liverpool and the idea of Owen playing for us at Anfield is definitely appealing. Rooney's performances just prior to the injury were sub par by his high standards also.

I am expecting one or two surprises in our line-up, possibly Evans in for Vidic.

He tormented Carragher and Skrtel in the 3-0 game in 07-08(remember Carragher took him down early on but Rooney stayed on his feet and had his effort saved, it should have been a penalty. And he set up two goals. People go about the 1-4 game in March but that day Liverpool were lucky not to lose by 7 or 8 nil. He also played very well in the 1-0 win in January 2006 when Rio got the last gasp winner. I'd beshocked if Vidic misses (unless he picked up a knock in training) He could be a big threat at set pieces as well, seen as Liverpool can be prone to conceding at set pieces.

Not only should it have been a penalty in side of five minutes it should have been a red card. Funny how all the Liverpool fans whine about Mascherano's changing the game, when they should have a player sent off with 85 minutes left and a goal behind

So given all the injury clouds, the worst case scenario would look like this, right?

Berbatov Owen
Nani Carrick Anderson/Scholes Valencia
O Shea Ferdinand Vidic Neville/Brown
Van Der Sar
Evra and Giggs are definitely fit ;)

Only Fletcher and Rooney are our concern.

from the daily mail are they taking the piss or what :wenger::rolleyes:

"Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is considering leaving star striker Wayne Rooney out of his team for this afternoon's key Premier League clash at Liverpool - even though he has recovered from the calf injury he suffered while playing for England in Ukraine two weeks ago.
Ferguson confirmed that Rooney celebrated his 24th birthday yesterday by coming through a training session with flying colours, saying: 'He's completely fit, there are no injury worries.'

But sources close to the United dressing room warned that Rooney is not guaranteed a place in the starting line-up because of doubts over his temperament in games against Liverpool.
Born on Merseyside in Croxteth, Rooney is a product of Everton's academy. He grew up as an Everton fan and Ferguson is said to be concerned that Rooney has not produced his best form against Liverpool and that his Everton upbringing could be a factor.
'If he does decide to leave him out, it could be one of the toughest decisions the manager has had to make,' added the source.

United's manager knows he could be risking a confrontation by omitting Rooney from the starting line-up. The striker wants to play in every game, whether for United or England.
Rooney is also about to become a father for the first time, but Ferguson claims not to have spoken with the star about when his wife, Coleen, is due to give birth. 'I've not asked him about it - it's not my baby,' quipped Ferguson.
Sir Alex has also claimed that United cope with Rooney's absence better than England. The Scot believes that, with Dimitar Berbatov to call upon, he can relax - unlike England boss Fabio Capello, who has no other world-class striker.
Ferguson said: 'There is a bigger expectation and pressure on Wayne with England. They look upon him as the No 1 striker. They don't even have a clear partner for him. It's not the same here. We have Berbatov and there isn't the same dependency on Rooney.'
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has given under-fire Rafa Benitez a boost by coming through yesterday's training after recovering from a groin injury and is set to start today.

im sure his missus has already given birth

Sunday at last.

Manchester United are worried over the fitness of Edwin van der Sar for the visit to Liverpool today, after the Dutch goalkeeper missed training yesterday.

The former Ajax and Juventus custodian suffered a sore back following United’s 1-0 win at CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night.

Van der Sar’s understudy Ben Foster could come in whilst Tomasz Kuszczak has been placed on standby.

The 38-year-old has played just two games so far this season after picking up an injury in a pre-season friendly with Bayern Munich.

Van der Sar a surprise doubt for Liverpool-Manchester United

Could someone pm me a MUTV stream if there is one. Build up is killing me and it dint help with the clocks going back!

Im going with:

VDS
Oshea Rio Vidic Evra
Valencia Fletcher Carrick Giggs Nani
Berba

Its a away game so i think SAF will opt for a 451/433, altho it can change if Rooneys fit. And if Fletcher is out then play Anderson

Fletcher is out, according to SSN.

Scholes Carrick midfield and Giggs and Valencia Wings.

The rest of the team pretty much picks itself.
