Liverpool

I have several bets on with Liverpool fans who I'm friendly with. The bullishness levels are rising constantly and they are barely able to hold it all in. I have a few end of season bets that we/they will finish higher and I have one riskier one that we will be above them come the end of November.

And you could conceivably win them all but we could end the season happier. How weird is that?

I don't know about that. I can't see you slipping to below 5th so if we finish above you we're in the top four at the very least and I'd take that this year (although I expect us to compete).

I was thinking more about you finishing 2nd or 3rd and us 4th as the possiblilty of us being happier than you. You'll no doubt be happy with that taking into account the changes made this season but I think we'd pip you to the "happy as feck while winning nothing" trophy.

 It's certainly an objective trophy. We'd better not mention it to Arsenal or City fans or they'll be looking to add them to the Moral Cup and the Top Four Shield.

Is Rodolfo Borrell that really good coach on FM? I bring him to United in every save.

That would be an indication they are very bad coaches. Because they don't develop young talents into first team players.
That's what I said, I am not so sure. They have had good kids over the past few seasons. Suso, Sterling, Wisdom, Flanagan. There was this striker as well who was very highly rated, yet he couldn't make the set up. Can't remember his name (he is on loan somewhere in Spain, I think). Now, whether that task is upto the manager or the youth coaches, I am not sure.

Dunno, but they have had a lot of good/potential kids in their youth team/academy. Them not making into the first team squad is a different argument altogether.
You very rarely hear of an ex Liverpool academy player playing in the premiership like you do with United players, Shawcross, Campbell, Gibson, Bardsley, Morrison, Fryers to name a few, I'm sure there's more.
I could be wrong of course as I don't tend to follow Liverpool to closely at academy level.

Surely you've got to be looking at the coaches. At least since they've been sacked Rodgers probably thinks the same.

I heard part of a Brendan Rogers interview on Talkshite this morning. He actually used the phrase "joined up thinking" I considered crashing my car in order to destroy the radio.

Wonder what Brentan has up his sleeve

Probably a 'False Arm' or somesuch...

Anyway, rumour has it that the 2 coaches might've been talking to Man. City, hence their dismissal.

Steven Gerrard is the only current first-teamer to have come through the ranks. Considering he's now 33, it's no big secret to say that our academy hasn't produced the goods over the past 10 to 15 years. When you look at our stature compared to the likes of Southampton, & then you look at some of the players they've brought through over the past few years. It's little wonder our manager/owners might feel there are people out there who could do a better job.

Would make more sense IMO. They've a good academy there.

Historically Liverpool have a pretty poor record at bringing kids through. In the 1970's and 1980's it was pretty much a buying policy which they were really good at and contributed to their on-field success.

In the 1990's they obviously had Gerrard, Carragher, Owen, Matteo, McManaman and Fowler but since then it's been quite poor.

Like most clubs they give some youngsters a chance at first team level but never seem to stick with them, instead resorting to the transfer route.

It's not surprising to me that Rodgers has looked at it and decided on an overhaul.

Of the current PL clubs...Liverpool have the third worst historical record for youth product development.

Is this based on the number of PL players each club has produced?

I can't think of one ex-Liverpool product now playing in the PL. Anyone? Spearing's in the Championship... Their academy must be really struggling. Adam Morgan is being released as well aparently. Another big prospect who hasn't progressed.

Our academy on the other hand is superb. The amount of players in the PL and Championship who came through the system is huge. There was an article going round a few months back about how it's one of our secret revenue streams where we've made something like £100M from all the players who've been sold onto other PL & Championship clubs.

Interesting. Third worst based on academy players who make their first team or including the ones who move on and make it elsewhere?

And I'm guessing Utd are ranked first?

Shelvey came through their academy, didn't he?

I struggle to think of someone with a better record than Borrell.

Kakalicinic plays regularly for Fulham. Tom Ince may be in the prem soon enough if he keeps scoring shedloads (though he's gone a bit quiet).

Shelvey was from Chalrton as the other guy said. Sterling was from QPR. As for Kacaklinic, I had no idea he was Liverpool academy but it appears so. Bought from Helsinsborgs back in 2007.

Suso: Almeria youth product
Sterling: QPR youth product
Wisdom: I would say he's a Brentford youth product......he joined Liverpool with 16

So only Flanagan is a real Liverpool youth product

@Liverpool fans
Is Samed Yesil still injured?
