Liverpool

They would do well to shift Suarez whilst his stock is so high, if he can fetch upwards of £60m, couple that with a proposed similar spend and it will put enough on the table to strengthen.

It's never ever worth it to sell star players who are way better than anyone you can replace him with, those kind of players are priceless to the selling club.

Just look at Ronaldo and Bale.

I'm not sure you'll move on all 8 players, not sure how many are supposedly coming in but losing a large number of players is the last thing you need when going into Europe. 4/5 would make more sense because you'd probably be getting 5 better players, I'm all for shifting the dead wood but just seems an excessive amount of fringe/squad players to be getting rid of at once.

Perhaps I worded that wrong.

Who are these 2 class forwards and 3 class defenders Liverpool is gonna bring in?
I know you don't work at the club, but in your personal opinion, who should they bring? Who do they have a realistic chance of signing?

I think it'll be Lallana and Konoplyanka as our attackers. We'll probably sign a midfielder in a similar mould to Henderson too. Apparently Rodgers rates Caulker and wants him so there's another. Then a left back and maybe a right back. We have Ilori and Wisdom coming back to bolster the defence too.

Again, most of them were on loan or played a miniscule amount of minutes.

Ah, that's fair enough. I don't think I'd replace Borini or Lucas, they're both good enough back up and Borini's actually had a pretty good season at Sunderland.

Agger to Barca? What have you been smoking? He might go to Napoli, but it'll be for peanuts.

Both Mundo Deportivo and Sport (Catalan papers) have talked about Barcelona wanting Agger. I don't think it'll happen either, and I'm not sure whether they are still interested but they were definitely targeting him last summer.

I think it would be a stupid move to sell Agger, say he's shite all you like but Liverpool perform much better with him in the team - 9 clean sheets in 17 starts compared to 4 in the 25 games he hasn't started. Rodgers doesn't seem to rate him though so I expect he'll be gone.

Barca apparently being interested a year ago doesn't mean they're interested now. I agree that they shouldn't sell him because he's better than Skrtel and Toure and would do as cover for someone better, but he's still shite.

Borini may stay. I think it'll depend on whether Rodgers thinks he's quick enough.

It wasn't apparent interest, there was confirmed bids. Agree that it doesn't mean they're still interested though.

He's not shite, complete nonsense. Horrendously injury prone yes, but doesn't lack ability and the clean sheet stats with and without him speak volumes (18 in 39 last season with him, 3 in 15 without).

They don't really need to bring players in their stead. Most have played very little or no football this season.

You'll know better than me, but this season Liverpool will have nearly played 40 games, next year you'll be hoping to play 50-60 plus travel less rest. One of your key issues these last few weeks is your reserves are shite once you scratch below the first 11.

Whether you sell the dross or not, you need to bring players in surely.

Could also be a bit skewed by the opposition they faced too. I rate Agger as a decent CB though. He's quite good on the ball (hence the Barca interest). His defending is a bit suss but if he got an extended run he might be OK.

It could be skewed, but I don't think it is. His clean sheet ratio over his entire career is much higher than anyone else at Liverpool's, and this season alone (don't have stats going back further) when he plays Liverpool pick up more points, concede less and keep more clean sheets.

I actually think his ability on the ball isn't as good as it used to be, but his defending is much better and the defence is a lot calmer when he plays. Baffled by Rodgers making him vice captain and rejecting a big money bid last summer from Barcelona only to bench him quite often when he should start whenever he's fit.

Shteevie is looking more and more deranged by the game. He needs to shave his beard and stop looking like a hobo.

Expect few favour from West Ham given the fact that they're about to sack their boss. However, a worse team that West Ham took them to the brink on the last day 2 years ago.

It ain't over till it's over and I know deep down United fans haven't breathed that sigh of relief just yet.

That team worse than West Ham was fighting for their Premier League status. This West Ham team will already have their minds elsewhere. City will be fully focused and determined.

Probably but I presume City were fully focused and determined two years ago.

Yeah but like I said, so were the opposition. Incomparable this time. Sunderland beat Chelsea and drew with City in past couple of weeks, just shows how important having something to play for is to a team.

Yet Palace had nothing to play for...

Palace away is considerably tougher than West Ham at home. They were hardly putting up a fight when you took a 3 goal lead because of their safety. Once you went 3-0 up though your players effectively got carried away and let Palace get into the game.

Yeah Palace only came back because Liverpool went full retard. Never go full retard!

I hate both teams, but stop being hypocritical ffs. I know Man city spend so much in the last 5 years, but we have competed with them by spending far less.

5th in NET transfers in he last 5 years. Forgetting about Stoke city (what idiots), Liverpool only have United, City and Chelsea in front of them. Should they not compete with them for the title?

That's 6-8 new players coming into the squad. IMO, majority of those people you've listed will end up being squad players and given that Liverpool will be in the CL in a group consisting of some of the big European clubs, I think you will struggle to play consistently well in the league and in the CL. I agree that Rogers has done a good job with the players at his disposal but assuming Suarez stays, I don't think it will be possible for you to play him in 3 games in a week or so (league, CL, league). To (theoretically) consistently battle on all the fronts, you really need more world class players and if the owners don't spunk out a lot of cash in the summer, your squad (plus the players you've mentioned), I think will struggle as the games go on.

Assuming we can get back to being half decent (with a new manager, LvG, or whoever is better than Moyes) and with Arsenal, Chelsea and City all strengthening, a thin (qualitatively) squad is probably the last thing you will ever need. Once the Rogers euphoria dies down and once the CL kicks off next season with the games coming in thick and fast I think Liverpool will find it really hard to keep up (stay in top4/win the league) next season.

Besides, if you lose Suarez (lets say you get 80mil), who would you replace him with? Costa seems to heading to Chelsea, Benzema won't suit your needs (plus Wenger might want/get him), your options might very well be limited to someone like Cavani/Falcao or someone else that I'm forgetting (hopefully not someone obvious) and I don't think any of these players can be a like for like replacement for Suarez and Rogers will have to adjust/develop the team around the new striker which might just take the fizz off of your team. (I don't think Sturridge can lead your attack through the season in the league and CL.)

So the next season will really be a tricky one for Liverpool and Rogers and will probably show what he is made of.

Of course if we bring in some dodo like Moyes, then the top 4 would probably not change much.

Did Rodgers really say that this season has put Liverpool on the world map? He's like a human version of a twitter parody account.

City played in Europe though. Have they not failed FFP for the same period as Liverpool?

It's a bit confusing tweet.

It's a stupid tweet, if Liverpool had to comply with FFP it would have meant they were in Europe this season, which would mean additional income that may (not sure of the exact figures) have meant they wouldn't have failed FFP.

If they had been in Europe this season, the money they would of made would not have counted until next year.

Fair point actually. There would be more income last year from the higher finish though, right? Or am I getting my years mixed up again?

I agree that it's stupid for Liverpool to criticise other team's spending by the way, but I don't think it's fair to criticise failure to meet a requirement they weren't subject to.

Depends on when their tax year finishes but it might of made it into their figures, the amount of finishing higher would not have made much difference. Like £1m extra per place isn't it?

Thing with Liverpool is they spent years wasting money away on players which didn't bring them as much success as they hoped, didn't get any work done on their much needed extra stadium capacity and then had to sell to some Americans who nearly bankrupted them. The new owner has come in and to be fair got started on the stadium side of things but still spent a fair bit. Their net spend last summer was about £20m (thanks to them fleecing West Ham for over £20m for Carroll & Downing) ours was £32m yet I know some Liverpool fans who talked about us as if we were like City & Chelsea! Yet act like saints themselves, completely ignorant to all the money they have wasted. Talk about their achievements being similar to Atletico but I know their first XI didn't cost them over £100m!

Just saw the 5 year net spend on the previous page. Under £100m compared to half a billion. Seriously! You guys are really, really not seeing this? Bunch of Wengers!:wenger:
