You can tell that he is so happy that Martial scored. He usually is very reluctant to praise an individual player like that. I'm delighted for them both :D

The first half was dire, the second half was much better with more pace and movement to our game. Unbelievably LVG snatches defeat from the jaws of victory with his post match interview, saying we were better in the first half, which shows he values possession/control above all else - the guy is not right for us long term in my opinion. Before the interview I would have been singing his praises for his substitutions....

Very poor first half. But he seems to have said and changed the right things during half time. We looked way better in the second half.

It was a very cagey game, largely shit on a stick stuff save for the final quarter or so. I understand why LVG seems to prefer the full backs to be the primary providers of width in our attacking play. However, for the sake of the Premier League we need more pace and directness from natural wide attackers.

Did he really say we were better in the first half? Has he smoked crack or sth?

He said we had more control in the first half (which is true) but only created a couple of chances and lots of "possibilities".

Van gaal is slowly building an unbeatable team.

We have arguably the best defence in the league (maybe even in the world-depeing kn CL) ;

We have a fantastic prospect upfront and on the wings & i'm pretty sure all the experience in the middle is geared on to bringing on a fantastic midfielder from our youth.

One step at a time & yes we might not win a league while in charge; but if we can go in to January of the 3rd year with an almost completely polished squad as we are seeing bits and pieces of today; then you can bet that the future will be more than bright.

Van gaal = bayern treble, barcelona dominance & now the future of man utd.

I have been having serious doubts about Van Gaal, and that first half seemed to show the very worst of his philosophy. However, in that second half every change both in terms of personnel and tactics worked out perfectly. The trust he seems to have found in Ander Herrera was repaid by him winning and scoring the penalty, and Giggsy's judgement on Martial has been instantly confirmed as correct. He promised us victory against our biggest rivals and he delivered. Can't ask for more than that.

Fixed :)

He said we had more control in the first half (which is true) but only created a couple of chances and lots of "possibilities".

He also said the only problem in the first half was our inability to make the final pass, that's why he made the tactical switch at half time.

He didn't like the second half because we lost control of the game (Liverpool had 2 touches in our penalty area first half, 17 touches second half).

He also said the chances that were created by us in the second half were a consequence of the goal since now Liverpool had to attack.

The football he wants to play is like the first half except when Carrick and Schweinsteiger get the ball into the final third then the attacking four need to do more.

He has a point, in the first half defensively we were brilliant, the midfield had total control but when the ball got into the final third we weren't good enough, in the second half Liverpool were almost back level had it not been for an instinctive goal line clearance, we never should have let it get to that. Had we continued to play like we did in the first half but with better chance creation like he wanted then there would be no way back for Liverpool.

If there was a scoreboard for misery after beating Liverpool in some style, you would be kicking ass all the way to the top, man.

His idea of good football is an absolute shambles. His comments about the first half being better then the second were just :wenger::wenger:

That first half was probably the worst game of football I've ever seen. And if thats what LVG deems as good, or is what he wants to see week in week out, then I really can't wait for his tenure to be over. Regardless of whatever success he might achieve. Like Nev said in commentary, it was a disgrace.

As much as I want us to be winning trophies again, I also want to enjoy watching United play, and not just for the winning. And quite frankly LVG's style of football is absolutely horrendous, unless you're trying to put yourself into a self induced coma.

These comments from @Balu doesn't exactly reassure me either....

This is fecking awful to watch. I'm so glad that we got rid of van Gaal. Can't believe some people believe he's coaching a more attractive style of football than Guardiola.

We had a pretty great spell for about 6 months under him in the first season, yeah. Looks shockingly similar to what we had to endure in his second season though.

Man knows how to deliver on a promise. I like the fact that he is proactive than reactive. Did not wait for 60 mins to make a sub and immediately got Young on when he knew Memphis was having an off day. Brilliant substitutions. Keep it going LVG!

But was our win today the United way? I personally think it wasn't. The United way is always attacking, putting the ball into the box, playing with pace and power. I think that was lacking today and we can't just be gloating over a win which was probably down to mistakes from opponent. We need to seriously improve our attack if we are to sustain this win to go on a run.

That was a good performance from him, he steps up in the big games now if we can carry that over to our away performances we'd be good.

Everyone who is still complaining after trashing Liverpool needs to reevaluate their life.
Yeah I need to contemplate suicide because I think despite victory there were no signs of team improving on making better use of possession to creating chances. What a post.

Win against Liverpool will give LVG a lot of confidence as well (not that he needs it). I haven't seen the match but from the posts here, the first half was not watchable and the subs were good and changed the match. The problem with some people on here is they keep on cribbing all the time. LVG is not going to win everyone over. For once can you not just celebrate a win against our most hated rivals?

Just enjoy the win guys. I am not quite convinced with LVG but he is trying. Let's give him time till the end of his contract and see how he does.

Firstly, the saying has nothing to do with suicide. Secondly, what a post. Win against Liverpool? Who cares as long as I can complain some more. Van Gaal is shit. Shit shit shit. Possession. Shit. Winning. Shit. Shit

I am pretty pleased with the win and for Blind and Martial who both have been getting fair bit of stick or criticism for completely different reason. I am also very happy for Youngy who has once again shown what a fighter he is. That doesn't mean I have to revel in victory and think of nothing else. I saw that we were pretty lacking in creating chances from open play which has been a worry this season and think there is still a lot of work to be done before we can get results consistently not only against big teams but also against every kind of opponents. How does that require me to re-evaluate my life though?
