What are peoples opinion on Nani? Is he a big game player?

I think in general hes turned up in the big games when it counts so tomorrow could be a good chance for him.

Brilliant, but inconsistent.

Shave off the inconsistency and you're suddenly looking at a player who would be on the same level as Ribery and Robben, though still far from the genius of Ronaldo.

He was right there with Valencia and Rooney for player of the season last season, imo. His 10 goals and 14 assists were arguably better than Valencia's 6 goals and 16 assists, and Nani only had 1 more start and 1 more substitute appearance.

He's really our one player who has the speed and dribbling skill to tear a top opponent apart, I think he's definitely a big game player.

I would love to see us play a 433 with a front 3 of Nani, Persie and Kagawa/Young/Anyone, with Nani on his favored right side, at some point.

I don't know about big and small games, he seems to suit playing against certain types of opponents. For example, almost all his very best games have come against Arsenal. Good ones against Chelsea, too. He does well against big European teams who attack quickly, like Milan and Bayern, rather than keeping and sitting on the ball. Gives him space to work in, and lets him play without thinking too much, which always seems to be his downfall.

Basically, if a match gets cagey and sluggish, so does Nani. If a match is a bit back-and-forth and played at a high tempo, he shines. Which isn't ideal going into a game against Liverpool's constant Allen to Skrtel to Agger to Allen passing game. I'd still be very happy to see him start, though.

As tiresome as it sounds, getting Nani back really does feel like we've signed someone special. He offers attributes that nobody else can offer in the squad and seeing as our wing-play has been so under-par, he's going to look like a right hero if he hits the ground running.

Noticed this as well. Where opponents dwell on the ball more and tend to play it cautiously he doesn't seem to do as well. The faster the game the more he seems to shine. Personally I think he'll help bring out the best in Kagawa. Kagawa seems to be used to playing more direct football and that's the sort of game Nani plays. Fast, one touch style. Dunno if he'll start against Liverpool but I wouldn't be surprised if he comes off the bench. Sounds cliche but he feels like a new signing.

Wow really? That's quite productive considering for some reason I thought he had an average season. Need to keep up with the stats more.

Since we started playing the diamond on occasion I've often thought that the best role for him could be as one of the inside forwards in that role

Nani RVP
Rooney

Playing someone like him above Hernandez or Welbeck in that position has the advantage of providing a bit of width if necessary without giving up the finishing ability we'd be losing if we played Valencia or Young in a position like that.

It wouldn't be the first time. I reckon Fergie counts on the initial adrenaline rush of the first game back to give the player an edge.

Rio Ferdinand hand't played for 8 months when he started against Liverpool at Old Trafford. Cantona something similar.

Will be good to have him available again. Gives us a totally different option on the wing and with Valencia so out of it at the moment he will easily increase our attacking threat even if he comes back slightly out of form due to the injury layoff. Don't think he will start, but can see him coming off the bench at some point

This post is spot on.

Can only mean it was a slight tear. Or perhaps the scan was incorrect, or interpreted incorrectly. Or he could just be that annoyingly resilient.

I'm ready and even hoping to be laughed and pointed at but I don't think Nani will start.
Don't see why you would be laughed at for that. I don't think he will start tomorrow. I can see him coming off the bench at some point in the game

I was getting a tad fed up of him at the start of the season but with Valencia not having the best form its really great news having him back, especially after looking at last seasons review dvd his form at the start of last season was emense and this goal was just  imagine Kagawa added into the mix too:

That goal is the sex. Love it.

Brilliant. He should get some minutes against those cnuts tomorrow, especially considering the form Valencia is currently in. Young is doing far more than him for me.

Isn't half bad having the potential to bring on Anderson, Rooney and Nani after an hour or so is it?

Hopefully he signs this contract now putting his future to bed.

I want to see Rooney, Welbeck, Nani, Kagawa, Cleverley and Anderson all on the pitch at once if possible.
The one-touch passing that would be present with that line-up would just be too much for any team I think :D

could score quite a few of those Nani goals with that line-up I reckon.

Any team without RVP is weaker than any team with him. Therefor I'd rather not see the above team.

Could he be in for a surprise start against the dippers? With valencia in such poor form maybe Fergie could pull one of his surprise selections again.

A lot of posters love to come up with the usual "See what did I tell y'all" sentence

You'd still have been making a perfectly reasonable point, though. I doubt he'll start. I actually don't think he'll get on at all unless we're doing well - he never seems to work as a 'rescue' substitution.

That's fine though, plenty of time to ease him in.

Im a huge Nani fan. If he's fit then he should be in the squad. He's by far the best winger we have.

Nani signing a new contract would - to borrow a SAF phrase - be like a new signing. With that and no sales, we would be set in the attacking department for a couple years.

Just need to see about a new CM and LB (maybe CB)

Another winger, imo even if Nani signs.

1 CM certainly and Maybe 2 depending on Powell and Fletch.

Then a LB and maybe a CB. (Though Keane is coming on nicely).

I genuinely believe that Fergie had enough of Nani. He was hit and miss for so long and then went entirely miss. If that didn't piss Fergie off enough, we then had the contract debacle. Valencia, as we all know, is a tank. Surprisingly enough though...he's been shockingly bad. Kagawa and his injury, in conjunction with the mediocre Mr Young, leads me to thinking that Fergie has got to show faith in him. Was full of praise for him a couple weeks back and has laughed off any possibility of selling him. Would be absolutely dynamite to see him tomorrow. I won't say he will or he won't cuz for all I know, Sparky could play on the wing tomorrow. Only thing that allows me to think 'he might just', is the fact that he is a serious specimen of a man. Surely he has been working on his fitness while he's been out.

Anyways...let's keep the fingers crossed eh

I think it's been really over blown how miss Nani has been, I mean even last season with a lot of people saying he was average he still matched Valencia for actual output, so whilst he might not always have been playing his best he was still producing. He's not been as consistent as we would like and that is something he should address but he's still been reliable numbers wise.

As much as I love Valencia, part of me is almost hoping his current period of poor form continues long enough that Nani gets a good run on the right side again. He's always been more consistent on the right, and the only time he's had a season where he's played mostly on the right he should've won the Player of the Year award.

He is going to be a great option off the bench tomorrow.

Giggs or Nani...that's the question.

The case for Giggs is strong. He delivered that delicious pass to RvP but he came off the bench. I don't see Giggs having the legs to 90 v fool, but I don't see Nani being 90 minutes fit either. I say keep Giggs in the back pocket until we need him. A fresh Nani should be able to school fool's fullbacks, at least for 45 minutes. Better to jump on these fukks early with some Nani for the main course and then finish them off with Giggs for the dessert.

No denying that pal. He continuously had good figures the past few years. Nobody gonna argue his case mo r e than me..ive always been a massive admirer. He has been well below average in his latest outings though. Saying that, 1 good performance and everybody will be jizzing lol

The one thing Nani does when being on the pitch he takes a couple defenders with him and that gives people like Valencia so much more space to play in. When we play Young or someone else out wide on the left they drift in and sort of mark themselves out a lot.

Back after a long layoff. Will probably be eased back in. Might get minutes in the FA cup.
