Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

You be best suited to a 4-2-3-1 formation with such players, having Carrick so deep wouldn't suit him or Modric so it would be best for them to be beside one another with two wingers and a No.10 ahead of them.

Saying that I think Kagawa would completely unbalance you in that regard, it would be better to forget about him. Have Rooney in the No.10 role flanked by two wingers with Hernandez in front of him instead of bringing in somebody new who couldn't possibly be better than Rooney in that regard, forcing him to become a goal hanger rather than someone more creative.

As such next season if I were you this is how I would be setting up:

De Gea

Rafael Smalling Vidic New-LB

Carrick New-CM

Valencia Rooney Young

Hernandez

What he posted was similar to what you posted. He just posted Carrick below Modric. I don't know why he went with the diamond formation though. Now with Kagawa, it will be similar.

Carrick--------Scholes

Valencia--------Kagawa----------Nani

Rooney

Jellied eels? Tottenham is on the eastern side of the city but Chelsea isn't, how could you possibility associate a fine, upstanding club with an SW postcode with jellied eels.

Really, come on now, we also don't play 'hands, shoulders, knees and toes' like Tottenham fans in Haringey do but that could be because we don't have to check whether somebody is trying to rob us all the time.
feck off back to Cheltenham and play rugger bugger there's a good chap.

I found it interesting as it suggested that Carrick would play behind a diamond, presumably meaning right on top of the defenders which isn't exactly ideal for him. The only thing better than having one deep lying playmaker who can retain possession for fun is to play two in the same role alongside each other.

I'm really not convinced he's what we need right now, we've got enough creativity in the attackers we have and an excellent metronome in Carrick, we need a play breaker. A monster of a destroyer who can pass a bit.

I don't like posh cnuts being snotty about London - they should feck off back to the shit-hole shires where they belong.

Only you could interpret mocking one of the worst corners of London as mocking the city entire.

Really? We have enough creativity?

We didn't have enough creativity at times last year but it was down to Nani/Valencia/Young/Anderson/Cleverley being injured/off form for large parts of the season. Also Evra who always play a big part in creating chances was inconsistent. We were scoring and creating chances for fun at the beginning of the season.

In the final games we lacked quality in the middle of the park. We need someone like Yaya Touré or even Vidal in the middle, they can break up play but also quite mobile and very comfortable on the ball, maybe we have one in Cleverley, but after signing an attacking mid in Kagawa, we need to sign a more defensive profile who is also a good passer/attacker not a donkey in the Tioté mould. Modric would be a good buy but he's way too expensive.

Really? We have enough creativity?

We scored 89 goals in the League this season, 4 less than City and 9 more than the 2008 team that had Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez in it. We've also just added Kagawa by the looks of things so yes I think we have enough creativity.

Rooney, Welbeck, Kagawa, Nani, Young, Valencia and Cleverley are all creative players. I'm more than happy with that list.

Wow, first time I have ever agreed with one of your posts

I'm championing Asamoah by the way. Good in the tackle, incredible engine and both long and short passing. He'd fit like a glove next to Carrick and behind Kagawa and Rooney with Valencia on one wing and Young or Nani on the other. Plenty of creativity, good passing, two players who can break up play but also hold on to the ball and release it well. Great wide men, a creative fulcrum in Kagawa and either Rooney, Welbeck or Hernandez who could all feed off it.

Lovely balance in that side.

I really want us to sign a new central midfielder, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, I do not want that midfielder to be the good, but massively overrated player that is Modric.

Don't get me wrong, he's a good player, but he often makes himself look better than he really is when he's in midfield battles against teams that to be quite frank, it would be shocking if he didn't control the games against them. He often goes missing in the big games, which is a major reason why Spurs have often been overrun in big games last season, and why they were heavily defeated in several of those games too.

As I've said, good player, but he wouldn't be worth anywhere near the sort of fees being talked about, and he wouldn't be too much of an improvement on what we already have. He's better than Carrick, but not by as much as we really need for a player. He may control games against smaller teams better than him, however he'll have the exact same problems in games when we're under high pressure.

We need to create a fake Modric interview on Croatian radio, ala the brilliant work done with Kaka that even earned a rebuttal from the man himself, with Modric saying he wants to come to United.

I said that long ago! The Daily Fail already said we're after him. Ključ 103 can be the radio station.

You seem to have forgotten that Levy gave you the big "feck off" last summer and you ended up with Meireles instead

Modric is not among the greatest, he needs to leave Tottenham to achieve that.

He is a poor little Croatian, slaving away his miserable existence under the oppressive regime of Daniel Levi, that denies him a shot at true greatness and a chance to play for a top class team.

Modric is not among the greatest ...
He's arguably the best true CM in the Prem, and the Prem is very arguably the strongest league in the world.

You failed to get Modric, but I suppose that Xavi or Iniesta are desperate to sign.

This notion that Chelsea can snap their fingers and "sign the greatest players in the world" is just so much bollocks.

Modric is shockingly overrated.

Spurs will do well when they cash in this summer.

He is definitely Chelski bound if they still want him.

Where have you been the last few days? Chelsea beating Man United and Man City to who is likely to be the most in demand player in Europe this summer only a couple of days ago.

And do you mean, Raul Meireles?

You're also the 6th best team in England.

I think your weird paragraphing irritates me more than your stupidity.

According to Wikipedia, he's got 5 goals and 6 assists all last season.

Not exactly outstanding numbers.

Paul Scholes in his 06-07 season didn't had great assist/goals stat and yet he was the best midfielder in League.

Iniesta scored 2 goals and provided 9 assists in 27 league games this season.

He must be shite.

Modric made the 3rd highest amount of key passes per game in the Premier League this year.

Modrics goal v bolton is all you need to know really.

Great controlling CM, with a game changing shooting ability.

Getting old wont be a problem for him as hes not exactly blessed with pace anyway, its his agility / low centre of gravity that helps him get passed players.

....
Hazard has not yet kicked a ball in the Prem and has only so far played in the Belgian and French leagues (which, as we know, are stunningly competitive and of the highest quality). But already, according to you, he should be described as one of the "greatest players in the world" ????

Your problem is that you automatically and always think that lots of cash = lots of quality and that more cash is bound to equal more quality. Not suprising really, for a fan of a sugar-daddy club.

Given the wages and transfer fee involved in both cases, I'd guess that Modric costs Spurs maybe as little as one quarter (per contract year) of what Hazard will be costing Chelski. Let me know when, after actually playing in the Prem, he can be fairly described as at least half as good.

You're also the 6th best team in England.

They are the Champions League and FA Cup holders. If United finished 6th last season and won those 2, I'd be happy enough.

And Chelsea will only get better from here. So it's a bit of a void argument.

And none of it belongs in this thread either - MODS!

No No No

Overpriced and for the money we can do better.

He is not worth £35m plus them feckers at tottenham would demand. We got fecked over once by then lets learn from our lessons.

Modric is worth every penny and is a fine player. Why all the hate?! Just because he had a poor season by his very high standards?

In that case we should get rid of Evra, Nani and Jones.

They were a penalty kick away from a disaster - Chelsea may be able to afford to finish 6th and not make the CL.

I suspect United cant what with the mountains of debt to service.
