Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

Unless Modric hands in a transfer request and tries to force the issue it's a no-go.

Who is that genius of an agent that got him to sign a six year contract worth 40.000 a year last summer is what I really want to know.

And some of you think Levy is a dickhead.....

Modric is an absolute idiot for signing that contract. Its hilarious...

So he's an idiot but if he lets his contract run out his a mercenary. It was basically a win win for Spurs. He probably would have went last year but was promised if he signed a new long term contract(i.e. if someone wants you they have to pay us big money) and we will leave it open for you to talk to another club if we don't reach your ambitions. But yet Levy still screws him over... I have no sympathy for both player or club. Their all in it for themselves.

True should sack him. Agents with sense would have made him tie up a 4year deal. Spurs must have been laughing as he was putting pen to paper.

09:43 Another further development on Modric, this time from BBC Sport. The Croatian's agent, Nikky Vuksan, admits his client won't be agitating for a move away from White Hart Lane, either to Chelsea or United. "I don't think he'll hand in a transfer request," he said. "He will honour his contract. He wants to play Champions League and win trophies. The only way we can resolve this is to sit down and talk."

7/7/11

The day glaston owned redcafe.

He did stick to his guns, so fair play to that

But really don't know why so many people were adamant he would leave, it was clear £22m was nowhere near enough, and that buying from Levy and Spurs is always difficult (apparently they want £11m for Kranjcar) so noone was ever likely to pay the money that Spurs would want in order to consider selling, and that would probably be £40-45m

I just don't see Chelsea (or anyone else) bidding that much

I wouldn't bet my house on it!!

Having just re-read the pages of the Berbatov saga, I don't think it would take much to shake loose from Levy's grip.

The only thing Spurs have got going for them is that Berbs is a far bigger sulker and is more likely to kick off. I think Levy thinks he can bully Modric.

Enter a bigger offer, a bit of agent meddling and a big hissy fit, I think Glaston might be down a few quid.

Regardless of what is said about Glaston, you got to admire his staying power and he is much more ballsy than most in here.

'Arry at it again.

I'd be lying if I said Modric doesn't want out - Redknapp

Harry Redknapp has confessed Luka Modric is "confused" after "three out of the top five" clubs in the Premier League registered an interest in the Croatian.

Tottenham have knocked back the only official approach, a £22 million bid by Chelsea, and chairman Daniel Levy met with Modric on Wednesday to tell him he will not be sold this summer.

Redknapp revealed after Thursday's training session that three of England's biggest clubs want him, and he concedes it is difficult to stop Modric wanting to play Champions League football.

Team-mate Rafael van der Vaart has already admitted the midfielder is "disappointed" that he was not allowed to talk to potential suitors, and now Redknapp has confirmed Tottenham currently have a player who is feeling extremely disillusioned.

"He's always committed to Tottenham and he loves playing here," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

"But it's difficult for him, I understand where he's coming from. We can't kid ourselves, if someone is going to double or triple your wages and you can go and [play Champions League football]... it's difficult."

Asked if Modric's discontent meant the player could still leave, Redknapp tentatively ruled out the possibility, but he could not hide the disharmony that the summer transfer window has caused.

"He'll remain here," Redknapp assured. "It's no use me saying he's walked in and everything's great and he's happy he's staying, the kid's a bit confused at the moment. It's not easy for him.

"I'd be telling you lies if I said he's fine and he doesn't want to go and play for whoever wants him. I think there's three or four teams that want him out of the top five.

"But we want to keep him, and we need him. And as he said to me this morning, we need to add to him."

Ballzy for making a bet across the Internet on something that was always going to happen, that he wouldn't of paid even, if on the slim chance he did move?

Massive ballZ.

Not that daft - he's probably doubled his wages. And he'll still get his move eventually - either this summer or next.

No club likes an unhappy player, regardless of the blustering.

Harry is using the Modric situation to publicly nag Levy for more signings.

That gobshite even said they have to sell to buy, so who the feck are they gonna sell to bring in players capable of gettin 4th spot?! Levy is deluded!!

We have 25 senior players in the squad. Without players like Keane and Bentley who were loaned out last season as well. Sandro, Bale and GDS will all be over 21 next season. That means, for the 25 man squad, we have around 30 first teamers.

Tell me exactly how Levy is deluded when we can sell Kranjcar, O'Hara, Hutton, Keane, Bentley and Naughton without having any real effect on the squad? How much do you think they're going to fetch? And how much off the wage bill with Woodgate gone as well? Pav is most likely going too.

Redknapp has already clarified that by sell to buy, he meant that we need to free up squad space. A club that's always been financially healthy under Levy hasn't suddenly become poorer....because of a run to the CL quarter finals.

And here is the full interview by the way, parts of which have been conveniently cut out by whichever fine media establishment Bryan has quoted from:

Harry to build around Modric

Spurs boss confident wantaway midfielder will not rock the boat

Harry Redknapp is hoping a couple of new arrivals at Tottenham will help to appease wantaway midfielder Luka Modric.

The Croatia playmaker has made it clear that his preference this summer would be to leave White Hart Lane, with Chelsea and Manchester United reported to be keen on adding him to their ranks.

He has, however, been informed by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy that they have no intention of letting him leave, especially to a Premier League rival.

A distracting transfer saga has handed Redknapp an unwelcome pre-season headache, with the Tottenham boss aware that he now has an unsettled player on his hands.

He is confident, though, that Modric will continue to give his all to Spurs and not allow the events of the summer to have a detrimental impact on his game.

Confused

Redknapp told Sky Sports News: "He's OK. He's a great lad, a fantastic boy and a great player. I love him as a fella and everything. We will see what happens.

"He's always been committed to Tottenham. He loves playing here and he's a great player for us.

"It's a difficult situation for him and I understand where he's coming from. We can't kid ourselves, if someone is going to double or treble your wages, it's difficult. But he signed a contract here, we love him here and we want him here.

"We don't want to sell our best players. We are looking to build a team not tear a team to pieces. He's a massive part of that, we need him here, he's a special player for us."

Redknapp added: "He's going to remain here, but there is no point me saying he's walked in here today and everything is great, he's happy and he's going to stay. The kid is a bit confused at the moment and it's not been easy for him.

"I'd be telling you lies if I said he's happy and he doesn't want to go and play for whoever wants him - I think there are three or four of the top five that want him. But we want to keep him here.

"The chairman wants to keep him, I want to keep him and we need him if we're going to progress. We need him and, as he said to me this morning, we need to add to him."

Improvements

Bringing in players of a similar quality to Modric will not be easy, especially as Tottenham cannot offer new recruits UEFA Champions League football this season, but Redknapp is confident the club will bolster their ranks before the 2011/12 campaign gets under way.

Asked if he had spoken to Levy about possible targets, Redknapp said: "We had a chat. It's difficult. We are looking to improve and we need to. It's no good people talking about Champions League football if we don't improve the team, we know that. He's as keen as anybody to do that, but it's not easy.

"We have to make way with one or two going first, we are just a little bit overloaded in one or two areas, but if we can do that we will look to bring one or two in.

"We know what we need and it won't be for the lack of effort. Daniel always does it, in the end we always spend money here and improve the team and he will do it again this year."

Doesn't get people talking as much though I guess.

I hope he stays. It's good when clubs manage to keep their players, despite not being as big as others.
