Why you'd pay anywhere near 30mill for modric, when you could probably get Sneijder, who is by far the better player, by a long distance, for the same price amazes me.
This whole, 'but he'sproven in the premiership' bollocks does my head in. Great players can play in any league. One is a little scamp, that on his best day runs about a lot and passes sidewards most of the time, the other is a truely world class class player with an exceptional range of passing, a dead ball specialist and decent from long range shooting.
I understand Sneijder is a bit older, but he's different class. modric is not even in the same league, for someone who plays he same type of position.

They don't. One is an attacking midfielder. One is a deep lying playmaker. And Modric's passing range is outstanding.
No, it's not. It's decent, at best. His passing isn't even on a par with Carrick. Modric is supposed to be an AM by some accounts, a CM by others and a DLP by your reckoning, as a pure CM he's good, as a DLP I'd have Carrick. As an AM, Sneijder pisses all over him.

You make it sound like modric is just some decent player, when he's really one of the best midfielders around. I admit sneijder is better, but he's one or 2 years older, and he plays behind the striker, as a number 10, a position we just strengthened by signing kagawa, so it would make perfect sense to sign modric.
He plays pretty much deeper for Spuds. We don't need Sneijder now that we have Shinji. Not to mention Sniejder has come off a pretty shit season with Inter.
If Modric comes here, I'd expect him to play the role that Scholes plays. Carrick and him can easily play together.
Obviously TDon knows as little about Sneijder as he does about Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
This is so ill-informed it hurts a little.
No. Just no. He's above average in the premiership, but that isn't saying much.
He's not world class and never will be. If he's signed for backup to Carrick, I could understand that, but I've seen people describe him as a 'great AM' which he most certaunly is not.
He hasn't got the size or bite to be a great CM, Martinez/Vidal would totally eclipse him and that's me using two relative youngster to be consertitive, Carrick is a better option for DLP, he's not by any means a great AM.
What he is good at though is being given a free role in midfield, where he can run about and do whatever the feck he wants. Would that suit us? I don't know, but he's not the bset option, for big money, in any other case.
not ill informed. It's an opinion from experience of watching said player.
Yeah about Kagawa, I'd agree, but if we're going to spunk away 30 mill on a position we've already got covered, I'd prefer it to be Sneijder, who's form my be lacking, but ability unquestionable.
Were you wearing a blindfold by any chance? Or is it from watching one game?

TBF to him he has admitted in the Ireland thread that he's a bit hammered.
What part of Modric is going to play CM behind Kagawa and not AM, do you not feckING understand?

Makes a bit more sense I suppose.
Oooooh you can curse, in capitals too, woweee!!! Pity you've totally misread my post, you clown.
I've stated that Kagawa would play AM and Modric CM, but if we are going to spend 30 million on a position that is already covered, i.e. AM/Kagawa CM/Carrick, Anderson, Scholes, Fletcher, Giggs, Cleverley etc. Then I would rather spend 30 million on an 'extra' AM in Sneijder than blow it on Modric who is no better than what we've already got in CM.
Can you follow that now, or do you need some help?

Fletcher might not even play again. And Giggs is so effective when he plays central midfield right? Modric can take over from Scholes next year when he retires. Anderson can't stay fit for more than two months and can barely last the whole 90 minutes.
Carrick pisses all over him though. Tbf I'd take him as backup to Carick if we fail to get martinez, but I'd still be disappointed. He is vastly overrated. No matter which position you claim he plays.

I think we ought to forget about Martinez, SAF has already admitted hat he doesn't go for defensive midfield types (Martinez is practically a CB now).
Modric would be a perfect fit alongside Carrick, and I certainly wouldn't say that Carrick pisses all over him.
Also, I'm going to whisper this, Cleverley isn't actually that good, consistently outperformed by the inconsistent Anderson early season and constantly fecking injured. Also seemingly more interested in being a brand. His being injured means that he has been elevated beyond his level.
Modric would be the standout with Carrick and Scholes in that list, the others aren't in that quality. Giggs in the middle again *shudder*.
I wouldn't even say that Carrick is on Modric's level, let alone pisses all over him. He's a really good central midfielder but he has his weaknesses (ie. No goals from midfield, doesn't make forward runs, not very mobile, poor when put under pressure, although that might be partially because of the players beside him not giving him options), where as Modric has all those qualities (minus Carrick's defensive qualities), and pretty much the same passing range if not better.
Neither of whom we'll get. Too often we've lacked an enforcer. A Toure, Schweinsteiger etc. Modric is no that player. Modric is very similar to how Scholes has played. I think he's 26, why pay that for what we already have. I've been a huge admirer of his, and would loved to have seen him at United, but not now, it's not his time.
We won't sign Modric, and you can quote me on that.
You just shit all over your own argument there. Check out Liam's post. He's just schooled you all. I would have too, but I'm pissed and I don't even care anymore.
What exactly would a midfield of Kagawa-Carrick-Modric lack? It's got a deeper lying midfielder who is good at shielding the back four, it has a creative player to play splitting through balls (Kagawa) and it has Modric to control the tempo of the game, and spread the ball around the field. Not all the teams have a destroying type center midfielder these days, and all the decent/good ones are taken with no chance of us getting them. Modric I think would be the perfect blend between attacking and defensive IMO.
And who exactly do we already have when you say pay that for what we already have? 37 year old Scholes? As much as I love him, we need to replace him, and why wouldn't we replace him with a player who plays similarly to how Scholes did a few years back?

There would be absolutely no dynamism in that midfield. Carrick, although good at breaking up play with his reading of the game, has nowhere near enough aggression to be a defensive midfielder. When we played City, the team had no bite whatsoever. Funnily enough, the one player who showed any sort of desire, was Carrick. It surprised me because it's not his game at all.
I'd love Song at United. He's excellent for Arsenal, strong, dynamic, and creative. People will say he's not United quality, but we could do with someone of that mould, and as you said, there aren't many players available.
