Spurs would rather sell overseas so if the interest from Spain is real (see what I did there?) then we may be out of luck.
I see no reason why Real Madrid would need Modric. The cnuts.
Alonso will be 31 in a few months. I give him 2 more seasons at the highest level. The next best thing RM have in central midfield are Granero and Sahin. None are even close to the level required from a Real Madrid midfield orchestrator. Also apart from Modric and Schweinsteiger (ungetable, even for Real) there is not much quality in the central midfield market. So if they lose out on Modric to Chelsea or City, they might face some problems in one or two seasons. Not the best area to have weaknesses, playing in the same league as Barcelona.
Long story short: Real's interest is probably genuine.
Forget about getting him if Real or Barca are interested.
Quick! To the Sahin thread!

there are exceptions to rules. However you've got a valid point. Real can easily outbid us.
KingMinger, is that you?
If Madrid are interested I would say the same.
More wages, can out bid us, spurs happier to sell abroad...
Hmm.. you say Alonso has only two seasons left in the highest level. I disagree. Is Xavi done? Is Scholes done? Is Pirlo done? All these players are the best you can find in their positions and their abilities, yet they are still going strong. And even if you think he is going to be done at 33, you want to buy Modric as backup so he can be used in 2 years' time when he himself will be almost 29?
Luka Modric would only be considered a 'Galactico' signing by United supporters. I bet most Madrid supporters wouldn't have a clue who he is, nor would they be overly bothered if they signed him.

Are you suggesting Spanish people wouldn't watch the Premier League on TV?
I suppose it's true enough, not like anyone here watches leagues other than the Premier League, or knows of players who play in other top foreign leagues.
I doubt they'd consider Modric a 'Galactico' signing. That was more my point. I do reckon that a lot of them haven't gone out of their way to watch Tottenham Hotspur playing.
Are you basing all this on anything actually concrete or just denial around him possibly going to Madrid![]()
No. Kagawa was pretty easy to bag. As were De gea, Jones and Young last time around.Getting the players we need is getting tougher at each passing year. .....

If we really need a player. Only the player himself will stop us bagging him.
I don't. Money is not the only thing that motivates players. Toure for example didn't want to join us because he had a chance of fulfilling his dream of playing with his brother, and wanted to be at a club where he had a chance of re writing history as the star man of a team. Financial compensation was at the bottom of the list.Do you think that Barca, Real, City and Chelsea wanted Kagawa, De Gea, Jones or Young enough to give ridiculous amounts of money they gave to the likes of Hazard and Toure? I doubt it. .
This thread has gone to 135 pages and we don't even have the slightest idea that Fergie is interested in Modric.

If his bro had been at United and Yaya's dream had been to win a trophy at OT he'd have been ours, even despite the money city had to offer.
This idea we can't beat teams to players is a silly myth. We do it all the time. The same way they beat us to players. It's how football works. It's laughable for anyone to think we only bag players the big boys don't care about.
27 years old in september - £30 million pounds. I just can't see us doing another Berbatov to be honest.
No they can't. We make more money than Real Madrid. That's why independent financial agencies value us higher.
Real's extravagant purchases have been financed by borrowing.
