Modric is the 1 player id love us to sign above all others this summer, hes just perfect in the sense of what we need, a high quality creative midfield player premier league proven who can play in a 2 man centre midfield and is still at a very good age, hed be the ideal Scholes replacement.
Yeh, Modric works for me, I hope we get him even if we have to pay a little over the odds.
What a joke of an irony now is that almost every poster here at this moment wanting Modric as their muppet signing when Scholesy (the poster) used to jizz at him which this same exact lot poked fun and say he's a muppet. Yes, i say it again, he's just isn't very good. Spurs will take us to the cleaners for someone who isn't very good.

He is very good now, I am hoping that if he joins Utd he will become even better. People may want us to sign other players Sneijder or whoever but I think most people recognize Modric to be a very good player, the fact you don't either means you have not seen a lot of him and are making a rash judgment or you have seen him and are just generally clueless about football.
Good grief that will be two of us, clueless types. I don't think he is exceptional either, certainly not worth the crazy numbers that Spurs will demand.
this is also true; if we sign modric...scholesy (the poster) will be able to say a big 'feck you' to about 90% of the caf.
Spot the difference, I can except people not thinking he is exceptional( I think he is but it is arguable), but to say he is not very good is nonsense imo.
I happen to think Modric is the ideal footballer to replace Scholes. I just don't think a deal is possible unless he himself asks for a transfer.
Ye, he's contracted to 2016 aswell, so if he doesn't ask for one we're going to have to pay at least 40m, probably more knowing Levy.
How would us signing Modric prove Scholesy right when he went as far as to say he's better than Fabregas and so on?
I mean unless we signed Modric for £60 million and Fabregas went to Barcelona for £50 million. Even then those numbers wouldnt prove anything.
Scholesy was made fun of because he made some stupid claims not because he rated Modric as a good player. Lots of other people did too
He wasn't poked fun of because he wanted us to sign him (many did, even before the hype), he was poked fun of because he said things like Modric > Fabregas and because he was obsessive over him.
Wrote a blog near Feb/March time.. saying I'd like to see the likes of Modric & Mascherano replace Scholes and Hargreaves (overly optimistic), but yeah the rest of our side is so strong.. and pretty young in most areas, so some decent investment in midfield and next few years shall be just as fruitful if not more.
I don't rate Modric that high as some of, but then again, haven't seen that much of Spurs.

The age difference isn't huge either, just over a year between them. But i would rather see Modric at United as well, better suited to us imo/

As great as Modric is.....He doesnt really score that often and in Anderson we already have a great passer that doesnt score that often either! Should we not be wiser to be going for a midfielder that has more goals to his game?

I'd be very happy with Sneijder or Modric. I just hope we don't go for a cheaper option like Adam, just because he'd be cheaper to buy than the others.
The main difference between Sneijder and Modric is that Sneijder actually scores goals while being a terrific passer. Feels like we've been missing a central goal threat from the midfield for a while know.
i agree with you.. regarding an established premier league player, no one is more ideal to succeed scholes than modric..the only problem would be the transfer fee though...
I'd say the main difference is Modric looks best in a deep role while Sneijder looks best further forward. And that one's already adjusted to the Premier League.

They might. Certainly if they could raise some cash to compensate missing out on the CL, any way of doing so which means they avoid having to sell Gareth Bale, may in the end look like an attractive deal.

It doesn't make any sense for a team that's trying to crack back into the top 4 to sell off their best midfielder.
