Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

If he does, Levy will turn it down flat.

Let me throw another item into the mix: the old adage "business is business" doesn't always apply in the world of football. So even if Spurs were minded to sell Modric, Chelski is the last club on the planet they'd deal with ... apart from Arsenal of course.

I'll tell you exactly what's going to happen and the order in which they'll happen:

1) Some bright spark is going to add an item 9) to this list.

2) Modric will return to pre-season training, Harry will throw his arms around him and make him feel better with a big hug or two.

3) Modric will be offered a new 5 year contract, with a significant pay rise, albeit far less than what Chelsea would pay. This will contain a clause saying he can go next summer IF Spurs don't qualify for the CL AND IF amount X is bid (or in Chelsea's case amount X times 2).

4) Modric will be quietly impressed with one or two of the signings we've made this summer. *

5) Modric will knuckle down quite happily and play the best he can.

6) GlastonSpur will collect £105 in winning bets from 4 Caftards.

7) RedCafe will be filled with revisionist posts saying, "well, I never really thought he'd be sold".

8) In September a new Modric-to-United thread will appear concerning the January transfer window.

* Don't hold me to this one

That's all fine, but you're basing all of it on this supposed Chelsea-Tottenham rivalry. What if another club - with the capability to increase his wages and offer Champions League football, comes in with a bid?

As our muppet fantasies slowly fall apart, and our top targets depart for sunnier shores, it's sad to see threads bumped in an inevitable order:

1. Modric
2. Sanchez
3. Sneijder
4. Nasri
5. Hazard
6. Gourcuff
7. Young
8. *gulp* Adam
9. Er...Nobby Stiles

Etc

spurs will sell if the right bid comes along, it useless keeping an unhappy player at the club....

I cant believe that Fergie's sole target for the CM birth was Modric who tbf never looked like he was available anyway

And even if Modric & Sanchez do get away we've still got Jones, Young and De Gea all signed up :)

Thanks for trying to cheer me up, mate, but I remain a muppet in mourning. :D

The issue is not what Modric may or may not want, whether the wages offered or CL football.

The key issue is Levy and the future of THFC: a line-in-the-sand has been drawn in the clearest possible terms. Levy won't cross that line unless so much money is offered that even Spurs fans would wish him to accept it in view of what it could buy.

I'd previously reckoned 50m+ as the starting point for negotiations. I may have to revise that upwards.

No club is going to offer what it would take.

Tottenham would take £35million I'd reckon. Some of the stubborness and apparent refusal to negoiate would be to appease fan's.

Yeah, the eventual fee will probably be about £35m I reckon.

I've heard rumours of a Chelsea player (or players) moving in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

Probably bollocks though, swaps hardly ever happen.

Drogba is maybe a possibility, to be honest I had a feeling he might have been involved in the £22million bid, hence it was so low.

Nah, £40m, if and only if he slots in a transfer request.

He won't be moving without one and I do believe that he has been tapped up by Chelsea and he is playing the game, to schedule, with them, to engineer a move.

He won't be coming to United. Not a chance.

I am very happy about that as I don't want up being rogered up the jacksy by Levy.

No chance. Apart from the fact he is our best forward and going nowhere, his wages would be out of Spurs range I would imagine.

It's Harry we're talking about here  Surely he'd swap half the team, just for the sake of it.

As the new world-class attacking midfielder?

You forgot Wayne Rooney. Apparently, he is available, and the price is right. And Fergie rates him highly.

Indcations are we haven't bid for Modric so it's safe to say SAF's priorities are different to ours (or yours). Keep the faith. :)

That would be like you offering Rooney plus cash to Aston Villa for Ashley Young.

lolwut?

Drogba is 33 with a year left on his contract, you'd be lucky to get £10million for him, even if he still is a cracking player.

Modric will not be sold. Modric loves spurs. I guarantee he will stay.

be surprised if chelsea let drogba go, unless they are confident in Neymar if they end up signing him....

You have to hand it to Levy, he knows how to get top whack for his players. Modric will go this summer....and he'll(Levy) be laughing all the way to bank. £35m would be a good deal on his part.

somewhere in that region I think.

Wonder what will happen to Glaston when that happens. He'll probably have another extended sabbatical from the caf.

Probably. But from Levy's perspective, he'd have to be mad not sell at that price.

I'm sorry if it irks you that your CM midfield is looking a bit tired and jaded these days.

But Chelski won't be getting Modric.

Has this got through to you yet? Or are you still hoping against hope?

Seriously, you need to work on your people skills.

1. I am not 'hoping against hope' that we get Modric, I only said this morning how in the near future we are going to lose Lampard and his twenty goals a season and therefore I'd much prefer Sneijder.

2. I've also stated I am not willing to call whether Modric will stay or go and nobody can as day-to-day circumstances and their timings tend to determine these things.

3. I find it rich I am being lectured to about the qualities of Chelsea by a Tottenham fan, the fact we have finished above you in each of the last fifteen seasons should make that somewhat clear.

He will welch on his bets and vanish like a fart in a tornado.

Daniel Levy reports, direct or indirect, to Joe Lewis, co-owner of the company who controls THFC. Those two holds the cards over Modric's immediate future.

Both are wealthy enough to have the ability to resist any inappropriate offer for any player playing for THFC. That is worth to know before jumping on any premature conclusion regarding the outcome of this transfer saga.

If Levy act rational and without any personal pride he would probably sell Modric when he gets a bid high enough to save his (and THFC) face. I have no idea what that fee is but I assume we talk about £35m+. But that's not the real problem in this saga.

When Modric (and his agent) used media to express his feelings they crossed a line and acted with disrespect against Levy (and Lewis) and THFC. They basically told the world that THFC was a mid table team with no future for a top player. And on top of that Chelsea submitted a offer who many (including Levy and THFC supporters) believe is nowhere near Modric's transfer value.

The timing of these two insults was probably enough to put personal pride in front of rational decision into Levy and Lewis minds. They don't want to be a laughing stock and they don't want to be recognized as owners of a second hand team. Especially bullied by a team owned by a Russian oligarch.

So what do you think will happened?

Levy and Lewis will swallow their pride and sell Modric with the consequence of owing a mid table team. (without future to be a top team)

Or make a statement of intention and fight to keep Modric, with the possibility to have a sulking player, but with pride for themselves and the club. And most important of all and sending a message what THFC is about.

Modric in Chelsea's midfield would be immense, equally he would in ours. He has that ability to dictate the tempo, something both teams are lacking now Scholes retired :(

He will welch on his bets ...
You've no call to make such a claim' ... it just shows you to be a total twat tbh.

I've already called your "escrow" bluff ... and you folded like a cheap suit. So do us all a favour and feck off.
