Maguire | he stays!

The other reason offered for the deal not being closed is that the team wants Harry in the squad for the Wolves game. Sounds unorthodox (if he's injured the whole thing might be off) but apparently JWP got a last home game between the moment the deal was a certainty and the actual transfer.

Or to line up a replacement but that sounds like a poor way to do business with other clubs.

That just doesn't happen. No one plays when a transfer has been agreed in case they get injured

As much as I hate Maguire as the next ignorant CAF poster, I think some of the posts here are truly ridiculous. Expecting him to take a 40% paycut just because we were stupid enough to hand out this ludicrous contract is lack of professionalism beyond belief. Imagine if this happened to you or your loved ones at work?

It is perfectly within Maguire's rights to say no to lower terms and I'd fully support his decision, although I'd never want him playing for our club again.
Expecting a footballer to want to play football shocker.

Think it’s more the name of the player in question, then the source in fairness.
That's fair enough but expecting ounce of critical thinking isn't too much to ask , it seems Some just want to get angry and would find reasons when they aren't even there .

This isn’t a regular office job. Where the employee is earning 30-40k a year, has a mortgage and financial troubles to pay off and needs to take a 40% pay cut.

These lads earn stupid figures. And the less game time they get, the further down the ladder they’ll drop in terms of clubs desire to buy them as they continue to age and lose value.

Maguire has the legal right to stay. Everything else requires negotiation and agreement.

I know this is 100% true and this is the case for all transfers but this is the first time I've ever seen it worded like this

I think it will go through. But also expecting to see his name on the bench tomorrow and him to be here until Pavard (or another Centre half) is signed or at least agreed.

I hope we pay him to feck off, and soon.

His presence is a full on downer and either he is either completely oblivious to this, or is fully aware and doesn’t care how publicly embarrassed he gets as long as he gets more money.

Yeah Ten Hag said he values him etc. but he said the exact same about De Gea and Ronaldo. Actions speak louder than words and he’s had to resort to practically humiliating the guy because he either won’t take the hint, or simply doesn’t care.

If he spends another two years on the bench he'll lose more money in the long term. No one is going to pay someone who barely played for years a decent contract even if he's on a free. While with West ham now he get at least a 4 years deal and he gets to actually play, be a captain, and play for England. Running down his contract would a very stupid move for him even for someone with his IQ.

He has to look at DDG, recent Golden Glove winner and undisputed starter for United for twelve seasons but no one serious in football is touching him even with a barge pole. If he scuppers this move he will upset a fan base that already hates him, ETH could freeze him out and besides having his contract fully paid up he won't have much of a career to speak of after this.

Haha. Occupational hazard. And I really hope he decides to move to free up funds and also to avoid the drama of confrontation with some of our fans.

Why is everyone freaking out here? He will leave but only after we have a clear idea of who we'll sign to replace him.

I'd expect him to be on the bench tomorrow and probably the deal to be announced towards the end of the week.

Yeah, as if he's on the bread line. This argument always grates, he's not a Championship player, he's earning a million a month approximately.
And it’s equally as bemusing when people can’t understand that rich people want to be even richer

At this point it’s reminding me of the Seinfeld episode where George won’t quit his job even though his employers are doing absolutely everything they can to drive him out.
. And the one when he tries to get fired, reminds me of JM with us

The manager doesnt want him, the players dont want him, the fans dont want him. The national side is starting to see for the first time in years some promising young centre backs coming through that could threaten his place, so he needs to be palying regularly if he wants to play in the next Euros, which age wise could well be his last major tournment as well.

Unless he really is that deluded that he has a future here, the only reason for him to want to stay is a monetary one.....or he thinks a bigger club will come in for him, which isnt looking likely at the moment.

A £6m pay off pretty much balances the wage drop for the next 18months so he is only losing money in possibly the last couple of years og his career....and who knows that is pretty much after the next Euros....he could even do a big mov to Saudi afte that or America.

Not sure he actually loses out much financially moving and moving is the best thing for his career in my opinion, let alone the obvious that the club and fans want shot of him

You must be new here

Standard caf reaction to a negative tweet. They instantly believe it and start getting personal with the player.

Maguire will leave and join West Ham. These things just take a little time.

Why are people upset now? When he was signed many fans said that they love our new transfer policy; signing players who really, really, really want to be here.

Well.....be careful what you wish, i guess. :)

I shouldn’t be surprised at the fact that his shitness extends to being shit at leaving the club too, but I am.

Expecting a footballer to want to play football shocker.
Yes why won't he just move to a lesser club on less money because some fans want him to.

It's funny that players get horrific abuse for leaving or staying, depending on which way the fans' mood swings. For all the abuse fans dish out to players for lack of loyalty, they're even more guilty of this.

It would be interesting to see the comments when he signed. I was probably one of those posters :D

This is going to happen the same day the club sale goes through. It’ll be a double announcement.

It’s like watching Homes in the Sun
“What’s your budget?”
“200k”
After some looking they’ve found the holiday home of their dreams
“So how much do you want to pay for the home of your dreams? It’s on for 190k”
“110k on the basis that we want to replace the kitchen, bathroom, flooring, tiling and oh can they leave the furniture?”
Being fairly recently retired, I find myself watching that program more often than I’d like. I get a bit annoyed with the cheeky offers they put in………even more annoyed when they’re accepted .

My wife and I love that show but like you get really annoyed at the outright cheekiness of some of the bids. Why say you have x budget if you’re not prepared to spend x budget if you find the ones you really like? We’re convinced some of them are just there for a free jolly

My retirement home is quite small: 6' x 3' x 6'. A bit damp in the winter but the neighbours are quiet.

Oh definitely.

Because hating on Maguire is something they find fun.

It's equal parts weird and fascinating to witness.

There's actual news that personal terms have been agreed, but they'd rather whip themselves into a frenzy over the idea they haven't been.

Were you trying to be ironic with this statement given how ridiculous it is to equate a footballers dilemma to what someone’s loved ones would face at work?

If we've accepted their bid, and personal terms are agreed, what's the hold up?
We are probably waiting to make sure we have a replacement first, and possibly in case there is a freak set of injuries before tomorrow nights match.

It's not even comparable, fans and clubs are significantly more hypocritical and disloyal.

Find it hard to believe there's a hold up in his move to West Ham considering we're at the stage where we're sending bids in for Pavard
