Maguire shouldn't get any kind of pay off. You get paid more when you trade up in sports, you should take less when you trade down. If you fail you accept the financial consequences
Could we tear up his contract for gross misconduct? Was he ever prosecuted for what happened? What a cnut, sack him for the Greece incident.
It might set a precedent that we don't want to set. Might be good in the short term if we pay him off, but then every Bailly, Henderson, and VdB (at the least) will also start overplaying their hand.
Best to take a hard line on this I reckon.
There is no point lashing out at Maguire. He is entitled to receive whatever is mentioned in the contract. Clubs happily sign contracts and then try to shove players away when they’re not good enough.
The new West Ham contract, if he signs it, will be final one before he retires. He is being forced to play for West Ham where he has no chance of winning anything and has been asked to take a paycut on top of that. All that for the increased chance of playing in the Euros! Doesn't sound interesting. Pay him the 7m and get done with it.
He's entitled to sit and stay on the wages he's on if he wants.
All right, this is a bit black and white but the club has a contractual obligation to Maguire. If they want to unilaterally terminate that contract, then Maguire is within his rights to demand payment. The difference between his wage at West Ham and his wage at United equals the amount of his damages and he should be made whole. Having said that, I'm sure there will be a compromise and Maguire will go.

Wouldn’t blame him if sees out his contract. Contracts are set up to protect both player and club.
If anything blame OGS and Woodward ….they signed him.
He was inspired by Erik's rallying cry
Why would we do that when we can get 20+ million for him today?Could we tear up his contract for gross misconduct? Was he ever prosecuted for what happened?
2025 surely. He didn't sign a 7 year deal!His contract runs out in 2026.
He will be too old to be of value to a PL club by then if he does a Borgade.
He's getting the remuneration that we deemed good enough. We signed him at 180k per week on a long term deal - that's on us. Not him.So he gets rewarded for not being good enough?
He just gets paid the wages he was offered. I'm surprised these situations don't arise more frequently given the money at stake. So he gets rewarded for not being good enough?
He's being rewarded for not leaving Manchester United within a period of 6 years from the day on which he signed his contract. The fact that that stipulation is no longer one that United want to enforce is cost of doing business. So he gets rewarded for not being good enough?
This is how seasons get ruined. Get rid of him as soon as possible before the dressing room atmosphere tanks.
Exactly. And they will eventually. This is just good negotiating from the agent.ffs United just pay him what you owe him
So he gets rewarded for not being good enough?
It’s not owed to him. He’s been paid what he’s owed in fullffs United just pay him what you owe him
Future earnings are promised and the club now want to break the agreed contract to sell him on elsewhere. Therefore he is perfectly within his rights to negotiate terms to that contract being broken so he can go to another club. He has every right to expect Man Utd to pay him for it.
His retrial is in February.Could we tear up his contract for gross misconduct? Was he ever prosecuted for what happened?
Exactly, not so hard to grasp. He's getting the remuneration that we deemed good enough. We signed him at 180k per week on a long term deal - that's on us. Not him.

Scarier thing is we’re doing the same thing under the current leadership. Just won’t realise it for a few yearsWouldn’t blame him if sees out his contract. Contracts are set up to protect both player and club.
