Kuala Lumpur,
kick-off 13:45 BST

i don't think we are playing the same team. from teh reports it just said "A" malaysia XI....so it might be another select team.

macheda-owen will be interesting up top...owen will probably have to drop deep and it'll show us what he can do when he is forced to not play in his favored role.

Dont BUMP old threads or I will have Wibble ban you!

Moving match to KL would defeat the point

I work for the English football club Manchester United. As you may know, the team will be in Jakarta towards the end of July to play a game.
I wonder whether your business correspondent - or sports correspondent with a business understanding - would be interested in meeting me and the Chief Executive for a possible interview?
Ideally, the interview would focus on the business issues surrounding one of the world's biggest football clubs - why we are in Asia - rather than football/player issues.
I look forward to hearing from you.
This is the text of an email from Tehsin Nayani, a representative of the Glazer family, who own the team.
We agreed to meet on Monday, 20 July, at 11 a.m. at The Ritz Carlton.
The meeting will not take place now, after the team, which took on the Malaysian U-23 team in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday in the opening game of its Asian Tour, cancelled its plan to visit Jakarta following Friday's deadly bomb attacks.
Indonesian fans could only watch the televised match with extreme bitterness.
While the spectacle of joy on screen was inevitable, the hopes of Indonesians' waiting for their turn to watch their idols in Jakarta have crushed.
Enthusiasm has given way to fury and disappointment. The bomb attacks on the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton, which claimed nine lives and left some 50 injured, led Manchester to cancel their trip to Jakarta, where they were scheduled to play the Indonesian All-Stars on Monday in a sold-out match at the 100,000-seat Bung Karno Stadium.
An appeal to reconsider the decision has not succeeded.
Led by Agum Gumelar, chairman of the local organizing committee, the Indonesian delegation departed for Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to press the British squad to change their minds, only to be offered an apology that the English champions will not stop in Jakarta.
"Promoter/chairman of the local *Jakarta* organizing committee of the Asia Tour held talks with MU management and its agent ProEvent, in Kuala Lumpur.
"Among the representative of MU was CEO David Gill. They again expressed their regret that they can not play in Jakarta on Monday," Tubagus Adi, a media liaison of the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI), said.
Instead the team will stay in Kuala Lumpur until Wednesday before heading to China and South Korea for games against local teams.
The Jakarta committee is now left with the obligation to refund the 77,500 tickets sold for the match.
"We will announce the mechanism of refund on Tuesday," Tubagus said.
Not only will the committee incur a material loss, which is estimated at Rp 50 billion, but Indonesia suffers a setback that could have been mitigated if United had not withdrawn.
When the news of the bombings came, I was expecting the worst for the match, though I was still nurturing hope we would receive a positive statement from the gentlemen from Manchester.
I wanted something along these lines: "As a token of condolence to the bomb victims and solidarity to the Indonesian people battered by the bombing, we will be coming to Jakarta to play the game.
"We want to show we - the sports community - won't be taken aback by this inhuman acts. We are coming."
The dreams did not become reality.
Instead of reversing the decision, the club offered to move the game to Kuala Lumpur.
"No, thank you."

Much as I feel sorry for the Indonesians I'm glad we didn't risk our boys

Not worth the risk. Simple as that really. My sympathy goes out to the Indo-Utd fans but it's not worth the risk of playing in Jakarta.

Rather than vent their anger on our club the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) should be venting it at the idiots who committed this atrocity, I've seen the CCTV footage from outside the hotel and it wasn't pretty. No way would I want the club risking our players in a volatile environment.

Wow I might be able to watch this one. It's on at 7 45 EST right?

What streams are available - the usual ones?

Rajagopal: Tough for Malaysia to give their best again

By ERIC SAMUEL

PETALING JAYA: Having given their all in the 2-3 defeat by Manchester United in the first friendly on Saturday, national coach K. Rajagopal knows it won’t be easy for his boys to raise their game a second time at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.
In the first friendly, Malaysia nearly shocked the Red Devils in front of a sellout 85,000 crowd when they held the English Premier League champions 2-2 for 84 minutes before new signing Michael Owen scored the winner.
Malaysia’s Mohd Amri Yahyah, especially, can hold his head high after scoring a brace, including the spectacular volley which caught United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar by surprise in the first-half stoppage time.
But Rajagopal is not getting carried away with the result and he is aware that United will probably step up a gear in the return match today.
“It will be a different ball game tomorrow (today),” Rajagopal said before putting his charges through a light workout at the Wisma FAM ground in Kelana Jaya yesterday.
He said Malaysia would be hard-pressed to repeat the same performance as the players had given everything they had against United on Saturday.
“We did not expect the re-match but it is a bonus for the players to get a second shot at United. Naturally, after a hard game the players are bound to be suffering from knocks and bruises.
“I will have to look at the physiotherapist’s report on the players’ condition before deciding on the team and our game plan. Anyway, I don’t intend to make too many changes,” said Rajagopal, who was pleased to hear Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson praising Malaysia for their spirited performance.
Rajagopal, however, was disturbed to hear some quarters and fans demanding much more from his young team.
“I have had this team for barely 10 days compared to United, whose players have been together for years. How do they expect us to play like United. If our players make a stray pass, the fans start to jeer us.
“All I ask is for them to be patient. These boys need all the encouragement they can get. We are in the process of team rebuilding.”
He also called on the fans to support the national team, saying he was surprised to see the fans silenced when Amri equalised for Malaysia in the 51st minute.
“By right, the fans should be rooting for us,” said Rajagopal.
United, meanwhile, are expected to include Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher in today’s game, having sat out the first match.

Foster, Neville, Brown, Evans(?), Fabio, Fletcher, Carrick, Giggs, Tosic, Owen, Macheda

Does that sound about right? I can't remember which other centre backs we took on tour

I know it probbly won't happen, but I would like to see Nani be given some more pitch time. Its my belief that Nani improves with a length of time in the team.

Is this game definitely on TV? Was watching MUTV last night and it advertised Friday's game as the next game to be shown.

Aw hell. 5:45 PDT?

I thought it was going to be the same time as the other game so I scheduled a late movie night that would end an hour or so before this game started. Now I have to wait almost three more hours. Luckily I woke up a 3pm today.

If anyone as a browser stream for this I'd be most grateful. Also, one that works on a Mac as I'm at work.

Cheers in advance.

Just about an hour to kick off. How come there is no more excitement or activity around the game?

I'm looking forward to everyone having a good run-out and scoring a lot more goals this time around. Clean sheet too please.

"The players who started the first game won’t start on Monday," the Reds' manager said. "It will be a completely different team. Other players need to get minutes on the clock."

Well, yes. But its still our seniors playing. Doesn't really matter who they play against. Its just great to have football back after what feels like ages.
