Manchester United v West Bromwich Albion

Time for Fletch to lose his starting place imo. Carrick to come in.

Don't think it will be lost on the basis of one game, though

------Van der Sar---------
Rafael-Brown-Smalling-Evra
----Scholes-Carrick--------
Bébé---Anderson--Giggs(c)
---------Berbatov---------

is a decent enough team sans internationals.

Not too sure on Brown and Smalling at CB, otherwise a decent team!

Most of the people have the same line-ups:

VDS
Rafael-Vidic-Ferdinand-Evra
Nani-Scholes-Fletcher-Giggs
Rooney-Berbatov

And that's considering that Rooney will be back...although if not, I'd put Hernandez in it.

Subs: Kuz, Evans, O'shea, Macheda, Owen, Park, Anderson.

Would you prefer G. Neville and one of them?

Rio, Vidic, O'Shea and the Evans's are on international duty.

International duty will be a factor in team selection, no doubt. But it definitely won't be so drastic and we definitely won't play a 451/433 against West Brom at Old Trafford.

In the case of Vidic, Ferdinand/Evans, Nani, and Rooney, I think the International involvement will be somewhat ignored. Vidic, the new captain, starts, as will one of Ferdinand and Evans. Centre Backs generally cover less ground, especially when we usually have more of the ball than the opposing side. Their involvement for their national team probably won't be a factor.

Nani has to play, and I'd imagine if Rooney plays well for England and his 'injury' isn't worsened, he'll play. However, if he doesn't play well or you can tell the ankle is hurting, then Owen, Macheda, or Hernandez will start up top.

Fletcher has played every game for us bar the trip to Scunthorpe, so I think his rest is warranted. It won't be so much about the odd poor performance, but the fact that even though it's early in the season, he's played a lot of football and will play for Scotland.

Carrick and Scholes should be fresh, and Anderson and Gibson is enough cover when we're playing West Brom, and to be honest it should be enough cover against most teams in the league, especially at Old Trafford. Giggs is another who can play in the middle, but if fit I'd expect him to start on the left wing. Bebé, Obertan, and Park will be enough to cover the flanks. I'd like to see more of the former rather than Park against West Brom.

van der Sar, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Scholes, Berbatov are all pretty much certain to start if fit.

Then we're looking at any one of our four Right Backs (preferably Rafael), another Centre Back (preferably Ferdinand, but could well be Evans), another Central Midfielder (preferably Carrick, could be Anderson) and another winger (preferably Giggs, but could be Bebé or Obertan). The other striker only isn't going to be Rooney if something happens from what I mentioned earlier, in which case I think Owen will get another start just due to being fresh.

The team is a sample perhaps just to accomodate the worst case scenario from international duty. Hernandez and Park are only human and have to travel big distances, I don't imagine Hernandez to play if it can be avoided. Valencia is out anyway and the two Brazilians aren't even called up for training.

As for the five you've mentioned: Vidic, Ferdinand/Evans, Nani, and Rooney... obviously Fletcher, O'Shea and Gibson will also be considered as well.

Rooney and Ferdinand are working their way back from injuries, but since England have the one game in Podgorica I agree I don't think resting is necessary.

Vidic captaincy will ensure he plays I guess, Estonia in Belgrade, Italy in Genoa. Neither should really bother him, Italy are a little soft on goals and pace upfront, Estonia are decent but you'd imagine the home fans will spur Serbia on.

Nani's Portugal are home to Denmark and away to Iceland, Ronaldo's return should lift a bit of the burden from him, but I'd imagine him to get another 180 minute spell of games. I wouldn't call him a certain starter, even with Ronaldo the way Portugal are playing these two games will take a lot of him.

Fletcher has to go to Prague to play Czech Republic, then play Spain at Glasgow ... two tough games you'd imagine, O'Shea has Russia in Dublin then onto Žilina to play Slovakia, Gibson likely to be a bit player. Two fairly tough games for both.

Which leaves the Evans brothers (and Norwood), Italy at Windsor Park then Toftir to play the Faroes ... again neither should really bother them.

Are we in the winter break that some managers have been asking for?

I hope they all return from the internationals with no injuries.
I believe Giggs should be rested after a hamstring injury. There's no need to rush him back.

Ive not seen a United game for near enough 3 weeks due to holiday and what not, the Bolton 'performance' was the last time i saw my beloved team in action, 3 bloody weeks is a long time, im hoping we don't take this game lightly but given this lot beat Arsenal at the emirates only a couple of weeks ago and the fact weve not exactly got a european heavyweight on the horizon should guarantee a full strength side and nullify any risk of that, which is always comforting, fact of the matter is were in no position to take anyone lightly at the moment given were already playing sodding catchup again.

Now i expect the usual suspects will disagree with me on team selection especially after international week and somehow try and condone fielding the reserves as a need of 'resting' half the first team but id expect as strong a side as possible.

Assuming as always theres been no injuries this week and Giggs original prognosis of 2-3 weeks was correct (that was the last i heard on the Giggs injury so forgive me if thats changed) thats what i hope to see line up on saturday.

They are in form but we should really be able to beat them easily. With the Hargreaves news I'd personally start with

------------------------Hargreaves
--Hargreaves---Hargreaves----Hargreaves-----Hargreaves---

Yeah. (Actually I think there's a chance we might see the 433 that people have posted with Rooney on the left)

However, circumstances being what they are with it being West Brom at OT - even "Look Ma, we're sixth!" West Brom - I think a guy can Oberdream.

I think it has to do with the fact that most of think that United will saunter past West Brom

- Think Rio will get a breather between England game and Europe midweek.
- Rafael should continue at full back.
- Park shouldn't be involved in a game such as this (but he's injured anyway i think)
- Should be able to afford Fletcher a break in this one, Carricks passing might be better suited to trying to break teams like this down anyway.
- Surely if we've any confidence in Obertan as a player we can afford to give him an opportunity in a game like this, especially considering the injuries. Giggs mightn't be quite 100% fit to start.
- Owen injured? hernandez long flight home, hence Macheda

Can't see Rooney being dropped. If Fergie wants to make a point am up for it and we should have enough to see of WBA.

Obertan and Hargeaves on bench would be a bonus

We need to start a consistent winning streak and this game provides just an opportunity to do just that. I for one am glad that a return to club football is taking place. Barring a continental championship or a world cup, international football no longer excites me.

I hope Fergie stops messing about with his team selections
