Manchester United vs Arsenal

What's the deal with the Goons backline? I heard Almunia was fit? What of Djourou?

Their team for today is

Almunia, Eboue, Toure, Silvestre, Gibbs, Walcott, Denilson, Fabregas, Nasri, Arshavin, Bendtner.
Subs: Fabianski, Diaby, Sagna, Vela, Song Billong, Djourou, Adebayor

So i havent apparently read any news for the last 20 years.

Im going to go with

-----------Adebayor
Bendtner------------Walcott
------------Cesc--------------
------Denilson or Nasri---------
-----------Song-----------------
Gibbs-Djourou-Toure-Sagna
---------Almunia----------

Personally i would go with:

VDS
O'Steady Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Ronaldo Fletcher Giggs Rooney
Tevez Berbatov

But i have a feeling it will be more like:

VDS
O'Steady Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Fletcher Giggs Anderson
Ronaldo ---- Berbatov ---- Rooney

I would love to see:

VDS
Brown Rio Vidic Evra
Carrick Anderson
Berba
Ronaldo Tevez Rooney

 After yesterday i would love to see those 4 up top again!

But its unlikely SAF would take that much of a risk and i think it would be

VDS
Brown Rio Vidic Evra
Carrick Anderson
Goggs
Ronaldo Tevez Rooney

After how SAF was talking about Tevez i can see him starting at OT on Wed, perhaps not the away game but he will start on Wed - I was going to put Fletcher in but i reckon SAF rested Anderson because hes going to start and Carrick is always going to be in the frame as would Goggs so i think it would be Anderson for Fletcher, or we may even see Fletcher for Carrick who knows!

Song and Sagna rested today and Diaby only came on as a sub. Silvestre played instead of Djourou, which I read as meaning that AW intended to start Silvestre next to Toure. But Silvestre left the match with back spasms and AW says now he's 50-50 for the CL match.

So I think it'll be

Almunia
Sagna Toure Beanhead Gibbs
Song Cesc
Theo Diaby Nasri
Ade

If we are fortunate enough to get a healthy lead, better though to the dislike of a few people that Rooney um...intentionally acquires himself a yellow shall we say?

basically yeah :D

i concur with a lot of the posters and think it will be -

vds

oshea
rio
vida
evra

carrick
anderson
giggs

rooney
berb / tevez
ronaldo

i would be intrigued to see berb and tevez with giggs and anderson behind.

I personally agree with this team, but I think Park could play on the left to try and double-up on Walcott. If Walcott doesn't perform, they ain't gonna score. Pace is a killer for full-backs - even if you are as fast as the winger, THEY always have a head-start when they have the ball.

i think we will keep it really tight so could see rooney on the left again, trying to counter the walcott threat

think berbatov should play up top - his ball control and passing was excellent yesterday - he held the ball up really well and brought others into play

ronaldo should play right - he should really have a go at gibbs and see how good he actually is...

a clean sheet is the first priority though

my team

VDS
O shea Vidic Ferdinand Evra
Carrick Giggs Anderson
Ronaldo Rooney
Berbatov

subs - Foster, Evans, Rafael, Fletcher, Scholes, Tevez, Park/Nani

I would go with

Edwin
O'Shea Vidic Rio Evra

Carrick Anderson
Ronaldo Tevez Rooney
Berbatov

Although saying that, a front four like that is what I've envisioned since early 2007 (replace Berba with Saha where applicable). I don't think its likely to happen though, Giggs is bound to play as he wasn't picked today.

I was thinking today to see the Fab Four start would be great but if we where to change they way we have been playing in europe and we get a negative result then that will be hard to take. Maybe if it was a dead rubber match, or we needed something to happen like spurs, we can go for it otherwise its a big risk to start all four.

Tevez could be on the bench, coming on the second half to change the game yet again. Giggs to start.

We need Tevez in this game to put pressure on the Arsenal defense from the get go. As demonstrated by Liverpool, if you put pressure on their defense high up the pitch they'll crack under pressure. We simply have to use Rooney and Tevez high up the pitch to win us the game.

But unlike Liverpool, we'll actually defend properly (hopefully).

Personally i'd bench Berbatov, start Tevez and get a solid midfield with hard working players. Then give Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo the orders to press high up the pitch and run at the defense. Chase lost causes etc. Then in the away leg we can play Berbatov who will look after the ball and make it very hard for Arsenal to get possession in their back yard.

As long as we have Fletcher/Anderson with Carrick in the middle we'll be fine. Getting close to Cesc will be the important factor, cutting him out of the game pretty much kills Arsenal.

I think we are going to start with Ronaldo, Rooney and Giggs. I'm not sure what this implies about Berbatov/Tevez.

VDS

O'Shea
Vidic
Ferdinand
Evra

Carrick
Anderson (Fletcher/Scholes)

Berba (Tevez)

Spot on we got to give them no time on the ball.

This !!

Danish ref Claus Bo Larsen has been appointed to take charge of the Champions League tie between Manchester United and Arsenal on Wednesday.

Larsen is already known to United, having refereed the UEFA Super Cup final in August when he sent off Paul Scholes for two bookable offences during the 2-1 defeat by Zenit St Petersburg.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson did not contest the dismissal at the time, admitting that the referee made the correct decision.

Larsen, 43, speaks English fluently and also refereed Arsenal's 0-0 draw with AC Milan last season.

Has anyone seen that picture of eerie picture of Wenger holding a packet of Haribo? tried looking for it on here but cant find it.

I'd go with

-----------------VDS-------------------

O'shea-----Rio-----------Vida-------Evra

--------Fletch-------------Carrick--------
-----------------Giggs-------------------

Ronaldo---------Tevez-------------Rooney

Berba and Scholes to come on for Giggs and Fletch if needed

I'd play with the same squad that finished the tottenham game.

I'd like to see the same team that destroyed Spurs too but I can't see Giggs not being on the field. maybe him for Scholes and the rest the same?

I doubt we'll keep a clean sheet. Can't trust the defence at the moment and you've got to fear that Walcott will rape Evra in his current condition.

After the Spurs second half perfomance, and the dodgy nature of Arsenals defence, you've got to think that we can get goals ourselves though.

So I'm going for 2-1 win with the tie very much in the balance.
Very hard to call the team. How to accomodate Anderson, Giggs and Berbatov?

VDS
O'Shea Vidic Rio Evra
Fletcher Carrick
Ronaldo Giggs Anderson
Rooney

subs: Foster, Brown, Rafael, Park, Berbatov, Tevez, Scholes

.---------VDS
.-O'Shea Rio Vida Evra

---------Berba

Foster; Evans, Rafael; Fletcher, Scholes, Park; Tevez

Wanted to put Fletcher in there too but hoping Anderson continues his form.. Giggsy to have a stormer on his 800th appearance
Praying for a clean sheet. need the defence to step it up a notch, conceded two lousy goals on saturday and it can't happen on wednesday because the second leg at the emirates will be very difficult. Rooney needs to be disciplined as he's a yellow card away from suspension. i have a feeling he'll get booked in one of the legs, gulp.
If we're protecting a lead towards the end of the game then Fletcher, Park and Tevez to come on.

Nervy 1-0 win.

Rooney to get an intentional yellow late on so he can serve his suspension during the 2nd leg. we'l be 4-0 up going into that anyway so it'll be ok.

Thats my greatest fear, i would hate it if he missed the final... but lets get there first!

You should be coaching the team tomorrow.

Or if we win 4-0, he could just be on the bench for the second leg, he'd be hard pressed to get a yellow card there. Oh wait, it's Rooney, let's put him in the stands.

There is absolutely zero chance of Fergie playing the Fab Four from the start in a CL semi-final first leg. Sorry.
