Manchester United vs Arsenal

There is absolutely zero chance of Fergie playing the Fab Four from the start in a CL semi-final first leg. Sorry.

I would agree, it'll be a three man midfield of Giggs, Anderson and Park or Fletcher i'm thinking.

And one successful outing against a wilting Spurs side is no guarantee of the same under other circumstances, nor necessarily the justification for its use against Arsenal.

By the evidence of the Liverpool match they might struggle to withstand pressure but they can too return it, and i think it will be our efficiency in heading the latter off that could well win the day. It's a careful balancing act for Sir Alex.

Wow, the end of this season is just amazing. It all got kick started by Macheda's last minute wonder goal vs Villa and to be honest, I'm still buzzing from that. I think that goal by him was the 'Giggs Le Arse 99' moment.

Saturday vs Spurs is still so fresh on my memory. It was such an intensely beautiful 25 minutes of raw emotion. I'm still on that floating cloud.

And so before we have any time to breathe ..... bring on Le Arse in a Champions League semi final at Old Trafford.

Its just too good! If I'm feeling like this, who the hell do our players feel?

My team:

VdS
JOS Rio Vidic Evra
Carrick Anderson
Ronaldo Giggs Rooney
Berbatov

Personally i would go with:

VDS
O'Steady Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Ronaldo Fletcher Giggs Rooney
Tevez Berbatov

But i have a feeling it will be more like:

VDS
O'Steady Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Fletcher Giggs Anderson
Ronaldo ---- Berbatov ---- Rooney

How can you put out a side in europe without Carrick?! :nono:

I personally agree with this team, but I think Park could play on the left to try and double-up on Walcott. If Walcott doesn't perform, they ain't gonna score. Pace is a killer for full-backs - even if you are as fast as the winger, THEY always have a head-start when they have the ball.

Good shout. Though if Rooney is positioned like he was 2nd half vs spurs, he could perform the same role. Can hardly believe that I am supporting SAFs ploy of playing Rooney as an outside left!

Even though I want him to start as well, I don't think it is a must if we play a three man midfield.

vs arsenal with all the clvere forward players, I think we do.

Our midfiled will have to do alot of committed running if it is to control Wengers attacking players.

I think Wenger has timed this season to perfection and his forward line is as promising as anybody. And so Anderson & Carrick will have to be at their very best.

442 only works for me with Park and Rooney on the wings and Ronaldo & Berbatov uptop.

I think a lot of people are stunned at how well Rooney has perormed on the left but he has been class

Van der Sar
O'Shea Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Ronaldo Carrick Anderson Park
Rooney Berbatov

Subs: Foster; Rafael, Evans; Fletcher, Scholes, Giggs; Tévez.

Win.

2-1.

Arsenal are generally weaker on their left side (our right), and most likely will be for this game, with no real genuine left-sided midfield player and with Arshavin cup tied, along with no genuine left back. We should try our hardest to expose this through Ronaldo and Rooney doubling up on the right wing, and if we need a goal we can introduce Rafael later on.

Evra usually relies on pace to stop players, but when he's come up against the likes of Lennon and Walcott, he's often been exposed. Witht he energy of Park and Anderson on the left of midfield and with Evra himself, we should be able to nulify Walcott. Because let's face it, if Walcott has a good day he's going to beat Evra most of the time. Let's hope he has a shocker and shows some inconsistency like his past.

Anderson should try and do to Fabregas what he did to Gerrard last season, not give him any space to operate. Ferdinand and Vidic should cope with their striker(s). I kind of want Tévez to start.. maybe he will and Berbatov will be on the bench. I can see Berbatov being of more use in the away leg actually.

You should be coaching the team tomorrow.

We drop deep we lose. Its pretty simple in my opinion. Push our players forward, put pressure on the Arsenal defense and manmark Cesc and that'll win us the game.

If Arsenal have time on the ball at the back then their movement in midfield can tear any team apart espically when Cesc is pulling the strings.

Its exactly the same tactic Liverpool used with us at Old Trafford. Put pressure on Rio/Vidic and make them play loose balls to the midfield which can then get picked off.

To make that work you need a hussler high up the pitch to chase lost causes so either Tevez/Park. Then a strong midfield duo, probably Carrick/Anderson.

If we are fortunate enough to get a healthy lead, better though to the dislike of a few people that Rooney um...intentionally acquires himself a yellow shall we say?

basically yeah :D

Rooney to get an intentional yellow late on so he can serve his suspension during the 2nd leg. we'l be 4-0 up going into that anyway so it'll be ok.

I hope we'll get a two goal win with Rooney yellow carded.

I take it somebody in here has already pointed out how little sense this makes?:wenger:

Exactly one year after magical semi-final at Old Trafford against Barcelona, 'Theatre of Dreams' will host another semi-final for Manchester United and hopefully we will see very similiar (or even better) atmosphere.

I doubt it, as it's the first leg this time around.

Latest Arsenal team news:

Arsenal's young Mexican striker Carlos Vela has travelled to Manchester ahead of Wednesday's Champions League game after spending a day in quarantine due to fears over the swine flu outbreak.

Vela, 20, was told to stay away from training on Monday after a visit by some Mexican friends last week.

Mexico is the centre of the outbreak of the disease and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: "It looked to be a massive problem because we were asked to keep him at home and not get him to the training ground."

He added: "Now he has the all-clear and today (Tuesday) was free again to attend training."

Wenger added: "It was basically down to the fact he had visitors from Mexico, friends who came to visit him last week."

Defender Kieran Gibbs, however, is a major doubt. Gibbs is struggling with an ankle injury, while his likely replacement Mikael Silvestre is not certain to be involved either as he tries to shake off a back complaint.

Captain Cesc Fabregas (ankle/knee) and defender Johan Djourou (knee) also got through training but leading scorer Robin van Persie (groin) and left-back Gael Clichy (back) remain sidelined.

Russian midfielder Andrey Arshavin is ineligible and centre-half William Gallas (knee) and long-term absentee Tomas Rosicky will miss the rest of the campaign.

SIR Alex Ferguson has backed Patrice Evra to quell the threat of Arsenal danger-man Theo Walcott in the Champions League semi-final at Old Trafford.

Ferguson has set his United team the task of keeping a clean sheet in the first-leg tie as they look to move another step closer to becoming the first side to retain the trophy in its present form.

And the Reds chief feels Walcott is a clear threat.

Given the way Aaron Lennon has troubled Evra twice in the last few weeks for Tottenham, Ferguson could be forgiven for having a few worries about how the France full-back will cope.

But if he does, they are well hidden.

"Patrice Evra is quick enough," said Ferguson.

"He has played against Theo Walcott a few times and been alright with that.

"Walcott is very quick, probably the quickest forward in England at the moment, so we will have to prepare in the right way."

Ferguson has a number of major selection dilemmas, including the other full-back position, where John O'Shea is expected to get the nod over Brazilian teenager Rafael Da Silva.

In attack it is even more of a conundrum, with Carlos Tevez's outstanding performance in Saturday's 5-2 win over Tottenham putting him in contention, along with Dimitar Berbatov, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.

I'm torn between Anderson and Carrick for the middle of the midfield but I'll go Anderson for his presence and giant arse.

Anyone want to give the potential Arse lineup a stab?

Carrick will certainly play people. The only big game I can remember him missing is the Chelsea one.
