Manchester United vs. Beşiktaş JK

lone striker possible ?
with berba semi injured , would fergie rest roowen and play just kiko upfront ?

nani--gibson-scholes-anderson-obertan
------------kiko

gibson , scholes to anchor and others to be free to attack .
i know its at home and a 4-4-2 would be better ..
welbeck/kiko starting would be too good to be true tho

Isn't he a poster on here?

Let's hope we dont treat Besiktas with the same complacency that we treated CSKA.

its a home game.. no travelling squad , so its unlikely to be out in the media

kuszczak

park scholes anderson nani

obertan owen

macheda gibson vidic rooney valencia foster

Foster

Neville • Brown • Vidic • De Laet

Nani • Scholes • Anderson • Obertan

Owen • Macheda

Substitutes: Kuszczak; Rafael; O'Shea; Park; Fletcher; Valencia; Rooney

This game should be relatively straightforward. 2-1 United, Macheda and Nani to score.

Squad (at a guess): Foster, Kuszczak, Neville, Evra, Brown, Vidic, Rafael, O'Shea, Evans, Anderson, Park, Carrick, Nani, Scholes, Valencia, Obertan, Gibson, Owen, Berbatov, Rooney, Welbeck, Macheda.

(O'Shea if fit, pretty sure Berbatov and Evans will be fine)
Resting van der Sar, Giggs and Fletcher.
Minus Hargreaves, Ferdinand and Fabio anyway.

Too good team imo.

I'd go with:

Foster
Rafael
Brown
Evans
Fabio

Nani
Gibson
Anderson
Obertan

Owen
Macheda

Ben Hibbs (BenHibbs) on Twitter

Ok, so no Edwin, Rio, O'Shea, Neville, Fabio at training this morning. Hargreaves training but on his own. Some ball work, mainly running

We'll have to wait till the press conference at 2pm to find out the fitness of those lads, but defensively looking a little light still

No Jonny Evans either at training this morning

defence of Raf - Brown - Vidic - Evra. Again, little to put on the bench, De Laet is the only sorta-first teamer available i think.
Full team of

-----------Foster
Raf - Brown - Vidic - Evra
Welbeck-Anderson-Scholes-Nani
--------Owen-Kiko

Would like Obertan to get a start, but also want (more) Nani, Welbeck, Owen and Kiko to start.

Hargreaves is not going to make the Wolfsburg game either at this rate. Gutting for Tosic.
Maybe January is more realistic now.

What makes you say that?

having not kicked a ball, properly, in over a year. I would say two weeks is a bit to soon to have him up to match level to be honest. I think he needed to be making an appearance for the reserves tonight (even as a sub) to be in with a real shot of making the Wolfsburg game.

What makes you say that?

I'm echoing what Ben Hibbs is saying, and he's the one seeing him up close.
It's a couple of weeks away, and if he's not doing any proper training yet then I just don't see him making a CL game against a tough opponent (albeit hopefully a dead rubber game).

He's been out for so long he needs to be training with the first team, having full training sessions, and maybe a reserve team game or two before he can play in a CL game.

I dunno, he is doing "some" ball work, so must be close to joining the rest of the lads in full training. I could see SAF giving him a start if he gets a week of full training under his belt between now and the Wolfsburg game (providing we've nailed top spot in the group by then).

First game starting? If he does make the Wolfsburg game, it will be as a 70th minute sub i reckon. Will be a good number of weeks before he is starting matches.

EDIT: THough thinking about it, he has been running for a good while, so his actual fitness level should be quite high.

The official site said he did a few short passes with a coach and some keep ups. Didn't he do that in the training session before the Barca final? If that's the only work he is doing with a ball at the moment, I can't see him playing before Christmas. He has to progress to more than short passes, and then contact with other players. That will take a while at the speed he is currently going. New Year at the earliest I think, and that is without any set backs.

It's quite possible that we need to play De Laet at LB. We can't play Evra every game, and it looked like he was hurt an would need to come off at one point during the Everton game. We're getting down to bare bones at the back.

he isnt in the CL squad
i have nothing against starting him .. infact , i would love to see him get some game time ..

Most notable absence from the reserve game tonight (aside from the obvious Welchedatan) is Joshua King. If he isn't injured he'd be taking one of the 7 substitute spots.

I'd love to see him get a run out. But its unlikely. If the Wolfsburg game is a complete dead rubber then I'm sure he could get some time.
We need to win tonight to ensure that happens though.

Reds' defence depleted

United trained without Edwin van der Sar and five defenders on Tuesday morning as the Reds stepped up preparations ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Besiktas.

Van der Sar, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, John O’Shea and Fabio were all missing as the press gathered to watch Sir Alex put his side through their paces. Journalists will have to wait until Tuesday afternoon’s press conference, however, before grilling the boss on just how much should be read into the players’ absence.

United have already sealed qualification to the Champions League knockout rounds so Sir Alex won’t want to take any undue risks with injured players. But top spot is still up for grabs, as is the chance to extend the Reds’ 24-game unbeaten home record in Europe.

There were positives to be taken from Tuesday morning’s session, too: Ji-sung Park and Dimitar Berbatov took part (both have missed recent matches through injury), while Owen Hargreaves, although training away from the main group, was involved in some light fitness work. He hasn’t played since September 2008, but played some short passes with a member of the coaching staff and did some keepy-ups – all signs that the Englishman is well on the way to making a comeback from his double knee surgery.

Sir Alex’s press conference is due to take place at Old Trafford at 14:00 GMT.

Training squad: Foster, Kuszczak; Rafael, Brown, Vidic, Evra; Anderson, Fletcher, Valencia, Giggs, Scholes, Carrick, Park, Gibson, Obertan, Nani; Rooney, Owen, Berbatov, Welbeck, Macheda.

Girish and I disagree here.

I think the most notable absentee from the reserve game tonight (given our defensive injuries) is Corry Evans.

Doh!!!!

Don't really like pushing Evra too much though. Hope we can put someone else in there tonight.

Agreed.

Unfortunately, Fabio missed training too though, so we don't really have any other options. Unless SAF takes a massive gamble and gives Dudgeon a shot?
