Manchester United vs. Birmingham City F.C.

Actually, now that I think about it. Scholes + Anderson in the middle might be the choice. With the Internationals we can expect the majority of our team to have played mid-week and travelled long distances. That said, it is the start of the season, no one's going to be that tired. Perhaps Nani will miss out on travelling with Portugal, Scholes obviously won't be playing for England and Anderson would be somewhat of an unlikely starter as well. This gives us almost complete freshness in midfield.. but I think we'll go for what most would regard as our strongest available team. There's little reason not to at the start of the season..

Scholes Anderson is one of those midfield combos we should never play. It doesn't work.

Looking forward to this, first match in my new seat - i hope the locals are friendly! Hopefully we'll get off to a stronger start this season.

If Nani is fit, does anyone think we will go with both Valencia and Nani.

I hope so, Park was awful on Sunday.

I'd like to see attacking pace on both of the wings, we should save Park for tough away games at places like Stamford Bridge.

That's what i was think, it would be an ideal game to see how both play together.

Same here not got my tickets.

As Owen was on the bench anyone expect that he might start. Would of liked to see Nani and Valencia both start.

Still not go my ST through but when I phoned there was a message saying they are currently being dispatched and only to call back if it has not arrived by the 14th.

How do you travel up to the games from Coventry, is it with the Local Branch.

Sometimes I take the train, sometimes I drive. I used to go with the Leamington Branch, they pick up on London Road and I think at Corley Services too. From what I recall they were quite a good crowd. Worth checking out if you need transport. Think you can findtheir number in your membership handbook or on the official site.

Thanks for letting me know, will give them a call as need lift at times.

Is Anderson injuried?

He wasn't even on the bench at Wembley.

I think he would be the best player to join Carrick in the midfield for Birmingham match and Scholes with Fletcher on Wednesday with Burnley.

I can see 4-0 written all over this.
Anderson-20th
Rooney(2) ---37th, 52nd
Valencia ----- 70th
Why is our midfield all playing in a line?

I'd have Carrick in for Anderson but other than that I think its spot on. I'm expecting a tough game too, I admire everyones optimism but its the first day against a newly promoted team against the champions. They will be well up for this game.

I still expect us to win, mind.

That is just on paper, Rooney and Anderson will be free to move in the middle, I am sure you know they are not going to stick to straight lines, it was just to make a point of their order in arrangement.

No one has mentioned Giggs. I'd start him over Park. Giggs has been fantastic pre-season and looked lively when he came on last Sunday. I'm not aware he is injured. To suggest we would start Tosic ahead of Giggs is just crazy talk....unless Giggs in injured and I'll wind my tits in!

It would be Giggs in the CAM role in that case, not on the flank. I hope.

Why not mate? Birmingham don't have a pacey defence so he would be fine on the left. I'd say there was little difference between Giggs and Park when it comes to pace, and I'm assuming that's what you are basing your decision on? I still hope to see him play on the left for many games. He still has pace.

Giggs is not a winger.

It's not only about pace. Giggs lacks the strength to keep people off him on the flanks. He does way more damage in the middle of the pitch nowadays, and if we'd put him on the wing he'd still be cutting into the middle. I thought that was common knowledge.

The days of Giggsy running up and down the wing are long gone, unfortunately.

He's much more suited to a central role now in this stage of his career. All his good preseason form as come a more central role too - be that as a central midfielder or as a second striker role.

I must have been seeing things when he played on the wing last season on occasions...oh, and when he came on for Nani on Sunday. He was always cutting in from the wings as well as making the byline, even in his youth. I thought that was common knowledge?

Foster
O'Shea Rio Evans Evra
Valencia Carrick Giggs Park
Rooney Berbatov

3-0

Rooney x 2
Owen

Evans is injured. Seriously I think O'shea will play CB and De Laet/Fabio will play RB.

Is Evans definitely out then? Heard Wes might be available though, and I hope that's the case because we're getting very short on numbers in defence with VDS, Neville, Rafael and Vidic out, and doubts over Foster, Evans and Brown.

The numbers of injuries picked up by our defenders in the last couple of seasons has been ridiculous, and we're fortunate it's our strongest area depth-wise. It's another reason to be glad we have O'Shea, who is very consistent and rarely unavailable.

Giggs played on the wing in a number of games last year. Less than previous years, but the point is that he still played there. Most notably against West Ham away where he scored that fantastic goal.

Did he play there the whole game though, I can't quite remember but I'm prett sure it started from a giggs corner. So he had to be in a wide position.

After disapointing performance Foster should be on the bench... so...

---------------Kuz-------------
O'Shea--ferdinand--Evans--Evra
Valencia-Fletcher-Scholes-Nani
------Berbatov-Rooney--------

I don't see Brown coming straight into the team, for this game, to be honest. If he is fit, then maybe for Burnley but I'd put him on the bench at most for this one.

Looks like Evans is fit but if he is out... then O'Shea in Center and Fabio Right Back.
