Manchester United vs. Blackburn Rovers

Looking forward to this one, been out of the country and missed the last three at OT..Be good to get back into the swing of things, and hopefully the right result of course.

PACE.

This has to be the team, give rafael a shot, we need some seductive attacking threat from right back to give some balance, that team has pace on both sides, and potential for good link ups on either flanks, and actually great potential for mini partnerships all over the pitch

This is the first matchday thread I have read but thank feck I did!!!

Thought kick-off was at 15.00 so I would have been very early and a lot more drunk than I needed to be when the actual 17.15 kickoff took place.

Don't care on the score, a good solid performance and 3 points will do me

i think a drop for rio and rooney will benefit them both, make them fight for their position, nothing wrong with a wake up call. Owen deserves a start.

I'd like too see:

VDS
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Fletcher Anderson Nani
Rooney Owen

Nothing against Berbatov or O'Shea, but i'd like another chance to see Owen and Rooney together and i'd like to see Valencia supported by a more attacking full back. Valencia looked a different player with Neville overlapping him so the prospect of Rafael playing there is interesting.

However i think we'll see:

VDS
O'Shea Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Carrick Giggs Nani
Berbatov Rooney

What Rio needs right now is games and a clean sheet against Blackburn would be great for him.

he may be short of fitness, but a wake up call would be good imo, johnny evans has been awesome so maybe rio needs to realise he cant sit on cruise control and needs to up his game. He has made silly mistakes n needs to wake up. He might just realise a starting place is no longer a guarantee. Id like to see him concentrate purely on football and not these silly ventures with films and magazines.

Think Oberton might make the bench in all honesty. Ahead of Welbeck who seems to have picked up a knock on his knee...supposedly they're awaiting the results of a scan.

Agree on most of that (esp the ventures outside of football)but the simple thing is he's short on confidence at the mo, infact it's probably pretty much shot to bits right now and being benched isn't the way to go about getting him back to his brilliant best, and we need him back to his best to have any chance of going all the way in anything this season.

Fergie had a dig at him earlier in the week saying he needs to up his game or he'll be benched, hopefully that will be the kick up the arse Rio needs.

People over-analyse things, he's had a horrible time with injuries this last 10months or so, VDS has only just come back into the team and Vidic has been injured and is struggling with form too. The solution is to get them 3 playing together as often as possible and we'll soon see a dramatic improvement.

The problem is, Evans doesn't deserve to be benched. He's hardly put a foot wrong and it's hard to see how he can play his way into the team if he can't even get a start with one (if not both) of our centre-backs out of form. Must be frustrating for him when he knows he's playing well himself. I'd give him a start personally, then bring Rio back in for the European game (which has taken on less importance now we've won our first 3 in the group).

i agree really tbh there hasnt been a lot of consistency with them 3 and your right abouting needing games but the silly mistakes he has been making is complacentcy and a game on the bench would possibly eradicate that,.... or may knock his confidence even more. Its probably not worth the risk. Ill let fergie decide! Id just like to see focus from him.

on the other hand rooney could do with the bench you just kniw the game after he will come out fighting with a point to prove. Owen deserves a chance to start in a full strength side.

Umm.

Correct me if i'm wrong but hasn't he only just come back from an injury and played one game?

Seriously he had a poor game against Liverpool but i think the decision to start him that was wrong.

Some players need minutes, Nani is one of them - didn't play against Liverpool and Barnsley.

I also think that we should see Owen starting this game, he seems to be in a good form, Rooney isn't. We have to give Owen some minutes to play in our best team, with best players. I'm sure he'll offer even more.

Drop Ferdinand on the bench, give Nani and Owen 90 minutes, start with Obertan on the bench.

Whats with the Michael Owen love in he scored a decent goal against the mighty Barnsley but also completely cocked up another chance even admitting himself that he hadnt played well and now people want him to start over Rooney, I just dont get it myself.

He's looking the sharpest of all our strikers.

A few have started him over Berbatov too, and i think that is fair enough. Rooney's just been sidelined and should play, not the reverse.

I'd like to see the Rooney/Berbatov partnership to start the game. Given Rovers recent poor defensive form it would be a good game to maybe get some form out of them. If it ain't working come half time mix it up a bit and introduce Owen maybe. I just keep praying Berbatov is gonna turn it on at some stage this season for more than 20 minutes - if he is going to continue to play his neat flicks and deft touches, then we need someone who can understand his play, and that will only come with games.

He look sharp, he finds space better than pretty much anybody, he gives defenders something different to think about, he gives midfielders options, and his finishing will only get better with minutes on the pitch.

Oh and Rooney has had one of his dips in form and imo could do with a reminder that he's not a shoo in for every match regardless of performance.

Obertan Might Start On Saturday

After impressing on his first team debut at Barnsley, Gabriel Obertan might be in line to make his first Premier League appearance for United. According to the press, Sir Alex is considering starting the French winger on Saturday.

The Telegraph reckons there's every chance of Obertan starting against Blackburn Rovers after he put in a good performance at Oakwell. With Nani still infuriating and Giggs getting older, a quality wide man is something we'd certainly appreciate and having seen Obertan completing 90 minutes on Tuesday I don't think he's not fit enough to be called into action again.

Yet these reports still seem a little far-fetched to me: it's not Fergie's way to overtax players who missed a lot of time through injury. Obertan should have a place on the bench as he looks capable of adding something else to our play, with being capable of operating on both wings as well as through the middle. But it would be a huge surprise if he were to be selected ahead of Giggs or Nani on Saturday

I'd be amazed to see him start. He'll be on the bench if anything at all.

Fletcher still out. :(

Anderson - Carrick midfield it is.

Apparently Rio and Vidic are struggling with calf problems. Neville is suspended.

Back four could be:

Rafael - O'Shea - Evans - Evra

or

O'Shea - Brown - Evans - Evra

If Vidic and Rio are out I think Fergie will go for the latter for 2 reasons:

OShea is better at right back and Brown is better than him at Centre back....

And Blackburn are a long-ball team, so the extra height doesn't hurt.

Mind you, I'd like to see Rafael given more chances in games like these where the onus is on us to attack more than anything else.

Man Utd boss Ferguson excited about Obertan potential
31.10.09 | tribalfootball.com

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed Gabriel Obertan could make his Premiership debut tomorrow against Blackburn Rovers.

The French winger made his Reds bow in Tuesday's Carling Cup triumph at Barnsley.

"It was Gabriel’s first real game on Tuesday," Ferguson said this morning. "He’s had a few runouts for the Reserves but I think it’s too early for him to start tomorrow. It depends on injuries – he may get on the bench."

Although glimpses of the 20-year-old winger have been fleeting so far, Sir Alex is in little doubt of Obertan's pedigree.

"He’s settled in well and he definitely has ability – he has marvellous pace, which is always important in football today," said the manager.

"He’s overcome his injury, which is the most important thing. He didn’t know about his injury when he signed him and we’ve picked it up. Hopefully we’ve corrected it."
