Manchester United vs. Blackburn Rovers

Man Utd boss Ferguson excited about Obertan potential
31.10.09 | tribalfootball.com

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed Gabriel Obertan could make his Premiership debut tomorrow against Blackburn Rovers.

The French winger made his Reds bow in Tuesday's Carling Cup triumph at Barnsley.

"It was Gabriel’s first real game on Tuesday," Ferguson said this morning. "He’s had a few runouts for the Reserves but I think it’s too early for him to start tomorrow. It depends on injuries – he may get on the bench."

Although glimpses of the 20-year-old winger have been fleeting so far, Sir Alex is in little doubt of Obertan's pedigree.

"He’s settled in well and he definitely has ability – he has marvellous pace, which is always important in football today," said the manager.

"He’s overcome his injury, which is the most important thing. He didn’t know about his injury when he signed him and we’ve picked it up. Hopefully we’ve corrected it."

Eh? Have you taken this article from the future?

he will be on the bench i reckon, with carrick anderson centre midfield, for scholsey looks like he cant cut it anymore against physical sides.

VDS

Rafael - Evans - Vidic - Evra

Valencia - Fletcher - Anderson - Nani

Berbatov - Rooney

I know Rooney played poorly against Liverpool but I don't think he should have started in all honesty. It looked like he'd been rushed back for the game.

Unfortunate for Owen not to start this one as he as done well when given the chance. I think the rest of the team picks itself at the moment. Rafael at right back as I think he has the potential to become our first choice right back this season, and Evans to replace Rio so that Rio has a little bit of time out of the limelight.

I'm tempting fate but I've seen Blackburn on several occasions this season and in everyone they've looked very very average. We should have far too much for them and see them off quite comfortably.

Defensive woes piling up for Fergie

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is facing a defensive headache ahead of Saturday evening's home match against Blackburn (5.30pm).

Centre-backs Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are both doubtful with calf problems and full-back Gary Neville is suspended.

Ryan Giggs also has a knock and Danny Welbeck, who scored in the Carling Cup victory against Barnsley in midweek, is sidelined with a knee injury.

Darren Fletcher and Ji-Sung Park remain absent with groin and knee injuries respectively.

brown is looking good, in him and evans at centre back i have no fear, as long as they have confident attack minded full backs either side to relieve pressure on them and the midfield.

In light of recent news about injuries/doubts, the team for me then would be:

-----------------VDS---------------
O'Shea------Brown---Evans-----Evra
Valencia---Carrick----Anderson--Nani
-----------Berbatov---Owen--------

Subs: Foster, Rafael, Fabio, Scholes, Obertan, Macheda, Rooney.

I've changed my front two as well. I think Owen needs to be given a chance to start as he seems to be getting sharper plus I think him and Berba work very well together and seem to have a good understanding. Maybe Rooney was rushed back too early for the Liverpool match so might be best for him to be on the bench if he isn't 100% and bring him on later in the match.

i used to post that teh likes of Nani and Anderson after 2 seasons need to step up their performances, but what about Carrick, his performances this season did not reflect any progress though he should be reaching his peak.

Six injuries and one suspension, and add to that list Hargreaves. Didn't Benitez last week describe Liverpool's loss of Gerrard, Torres and Johnson (for ONE game) as the worst injury crisis he'd known?

If no Giggs, Rio, Vidic, Fletcher or Welbeck then this team please Fergie

Starting XI:---------- Van Der Sar ----------------------
O´Shea ------ Brown --------------- J.Evans ------- Evra
Valencia ----- Carrick -------------- Anderson ------ Nani
------------- Rooney ---------------- Owen -------------

Bench: Foster, Neville, Fabio, Scholes, Obertan, Berbatov, Macheda

......................Van Der Sar

..O'Shea.....Ferdinand......Evans.......Evra

..Valencia.....Carrick......Anderson.....Giggs

..............................
Rooney

.......................Berbatov

Subs: Owen/Nani/Scholes/Fabio/Rafael/Foster/Obertan

Suspended: Neville

Injured: *Vidic* Hargreaves Park Fletcher Welbeck

Think Both Giggs and Rio will make it listening to fergies conferance...however Vidic apparently has been suffering with his calf for a while now so id rate him the biggest doubt of the trio probably out in all honesty.....

That'll do

Funny how an injury to both Vidic and Ferdinand is now not met with any sort of trepidation. Evans and Brown is more than adequate. If they look solid, they should stay in the team as well.

I agree with people saying that Owen looks our sharpest striker. I'd drop Rooney even if he's fit.

I agree on both that if Evans and Brown play well, they should keep their place, at least until they don't play well. I don't like that someone is automatic choice. I also agree that Rooney should be dropped, for the same reason as mentioned above regarding Evans and Brown.
As I said, no-one should be automatic first choice.

We have not tried Berbatov and Owen up front yet, surely worth a shout?

Bolton.

Berbatov has been better than Rooney recently.

That's arguble, but I just think Berbatov's slow style brings down our whole attack. There's no quick tempo to our movement or build up in attack when he plays. We'd have been better starting off with Owen against the scum last week.

There's not a team in the world that could cope with the loss of both their first choice centre-backs as well as we can.

Surely there's no doubt that Berbatov's form lately has been better than Rooney's. I'd quite like to see him and Owen up front, they suit each others very well.

Same here, they just click as a pairing imo. That said I'm not sure if I'd drop Rooney... and I hate seeing him played wide...

But certainly if we're talking about dropping/resting either Rooney or Berbatov I'd rest Rooney

The way Berbatov is playing at the moment I'd rather play Owen and Rooney every time.

Why does the match thread always attract ridiculous statements from people? Berbatov has been in far better form for the last couple of weeks. Not saying he's been awesome or at the top of his game, but he's been better than Rooney who's had a very poor October.
