Good game but its our fringe players vs Burtons, still this will help the confidence. Hope the players dont get too cocky.

Some posters on here are the sort that would take their kid to a theme park, sit on the caterpillar ride with them and spend it moaning about how its a shit ride and the rollercoaster is miles better.

I think Blind starting tonight means Young will play left full at the weekend.
I dunno, maybe. Young played two games in a week, after a long layoff though. Today might have been too much for him. Think he started against Everton because they were weak on the flanks and Jose wanted to push there.

    Half-time subs:
    Shaw > Blind
    McTominay > Mata

    Later:
    Young > Martial/Rashford

Very shaky defensively. I'm really disappointed with Lindelof and Darmian so far, but man, how we only scored 3 goals is criminal. Should have been 5 at least by now.

Cracking performance and really enjoyable so far. We look fast and full of quality.
Should go without saying, but we had plenty of games under Van Gaal where we didn't look like we were any better than teams in the 3rd and 4th tiers!

Comedy reffing on that Varney leaping into Smalling's head with studs! At first glance maybe you can excuse it, but on any sort of replay it's ridiculous dangerous work from, Varney!

One more goal for Rashford and he becomes our all time top scoring teenager I think? Needed 3 to draw level with Rooney if I read it right in the programme last Tue?

I expected Blind and Darmian to start anyway, Jose would never start Shaw without some minutes as a sub under the belt. As for the kids, not unless we are really stretched.

We have rotated, so I am happy with the way the team is being managed. Most of our first teamers fresh for the weekend and no requirement for Lukaku to come on due to Rashford's goals.

I think Blind starting tonight means Young will play left full at the weekend.
I hope Blind gets taken off half time and Shaw gets 45 min. He was warming up from the 35th min.

Thanks Giffy, as ever. Like many, I'm watching this through your gifs.

Why are we playing such a strong team?
Err... Because rest of our squad needs some mins and it is not our fault they are too strong..

Very shaky defensively. I'm really disappointed with Lindelof and Darmian so far, but man, how we only scored 3 goals is criminal. Should have been 5 at least by now.

We're so dominant I can barely remember seeing Lindelof out there!

I'd bet my left testicle we would be. And Burton would be mustering dangerous chances forcing Romero into heroics. They were grim times.
Thank god it's in the past. Time to finish grieving the lost years and let go.

Some of those Caterpillar rides have quite whiplash-like jolts on them, can offer a bit of a rush.

Great performance we totally outclass them. They are poor tactically though giving us far too much space. Rashford, Lingard and Martial has played really well. Mata has played well, but he should have scored.

    Half-time subs:
    Shaw > Blind
    McTominay > Mata

    Later:
    Young > Martial/Rashford
You'd take Mata off? He's been one of our best players, I'd at least give him till 75th.

Looks like being another routine home win, which is nice after the last few years. I still remember LVG saying we should be happy Sheffield Utd hadn't created more chances after a drab cup tie...

Only two negatives the referee and Lindelof. The former is just seeing strangely, the latter playing strangely. Not coping with physical challenges and playing some real loose passes. Still can't see how his ceiling could be higher than Fosu-Mensah's or Tuanzebe's.

PS) would be great to keep another clean sheet

Good half. Lingard, Mata and Rashford are particularly lively and Martial has had a good go even though not quite as much is coming off for him. Rashford's second was great .

Even against Burton Lindelof has looked a little bit off. I'm willing him to settle down but he's still jittery when he's asked to defend.

Now for a couple of changes, one of which should certainly be Shaw and hopefully McTominay.

Its only Burton I know ... but the front 4 of Martial, Mata, Lingard & Rashford have been stunning, and many much better teams would have struggled with their movement, speed and finishing. Quite scintillating at times.

This is what happens when you have a deep squad creating genuine competition for places which motivates players to performs at their very best, no matter the game.

Hope we don't take the foot of the gas and keep playing at such high tempo. Id like to see Shaw and Mctominay get a decent amount of game time, and maybe Lukaku for the last 10 mins, just for laughs.

Then for future reference it might be prudent to avoid whinging that others aren't reading your posts properly.

It was clear we were going to dominate this side but you couldnt wait to find something remotely pessimistic about our performance to moan about after 10 bleedin' minutes - going as far to say we were being outplayed when it was obvious to anyone with eyes that was nonsense.
I didnt complain anywhere. I just dont agree with the notion that leading 1-0 to Burton proves we are a very good side whilst we were playing quite poor at the time. The fact that you still think Im complaining shows that you dont even read the post properly. Im not complaining, I also dont think we have to beat them 10-0 or anything, we have played good football for the biggest part of the 45 mins and have scored some good goals. But judging whether we are a very good side comes against tougher opposition for me, and not against Burton.

I'm not entirely convinced as maybe you are, I still want to see us tested in tougher situations, however the improvement in clinical finishing, fast attacks, fast interplay, defence is clear to see. And thats irrespective of Burton, I wont really take much out of this match. Difference in quality is too big. Neither do I think Ajax are a very good side just because we beat Scheveningen 5-1 for example.

We can't deny that we are playing against Burton's second string side, so it's not even a competition at all. Confidence and fitness builder, this.

That said, I'm happy to progress easily to the next round and enjoy some good footy.

    More goals please.

God damn you Sammyjunn, just bloody enjoy it ...:nono:
They'd be time enough to moan about false dawns over the next few months. I am sat here refreshing the page depending on you cnuts and GifLord because the game isn't on TV.
I am enjoying it pal, just because I reply on the posts doesnt mean Im not enjoying it. Most of you lot misunderstood me I think, Im not complaining.

    Pecking order seems to be:

    1. Young
    2. Blind/Darmian
    4. Shaw

    Right now.
Mourinho said Young's an attacking fullback, like Valencia. He just might not want to start two attacking fullbacks away at Southampton. Besides, Blind is having a good game upfront.
